Nothing comes Easy - India is a Nuclear Power and can not be forced into CTBT or NPT thru backdoor
by G S on Aug 07, 2008 03:05 AM  Permalink

But once it happens India will make use of it in a way it suits it,

In this process whichever country shows real colours (even China - Indians are not going to excuse them for second time - firt one being 1962). So it would be foolish for any country to stand in a way of India and United states.
Third if the deal is stuck there will be attempt for some way out of this mess of NPT descrimination.

When country like China which forced India to go Nuclear and prolliferated weapons top pakistan and Korea, signs NPT after doing thousand misdeeds as a nuclear state whyc can't India?
India is a nuclear power and it will get that status and nobody need to certify that. Isolation has done wonders for building Indian capability and further isolation will help india to depend on itself. But country who throws spanner would repent forever on lost ties and non-recoverable goodwill in the mind of indian people.

Amm Admi have not taken any bribes from USA, but all these men you have mentioned have taken bribes to sell India. This is the difference.

123 is nothing but NPT - a prelude only. Once the bait is eaten by UPA King, now it's the turn of the Washington Masters of the Slaves. Now, the slaves are going to sign NPT - it's just a matter of time. Congratulations, the slaves!!!

because of the mindset like yours, we will get less time to assert ourselves. I hope no compromises are made because of time.

Stupid Karat and the likes, have no value for time. They just don't understand that you can't wait to progress otherwise opportunities are lost.

The job is on USA
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Aug 06, 2008 08:48 PM  Permalink

I really want USA to go for the kill. Do whatever they can- threaten, attack, put sanctions or whatever on the NSG countries to make sure they vote for it. USA is good in this game and I am sure they will be able to do it. The job is on USA's shoulder now.

On the other hand, Mr. Singh, I would like you to go by your promise to make sure the deal is done and if that means you have to bend some of your Nehruian policies, then be it. Don't be afraid. People will remember you as the PM who made the historic deal possible, not as a PM who bent some age old policies. Show that you are courageous enough to be part of the rest of the world.

Well Well, was it MMS or Bush talking goodies with Indians....by Sanjeev Srivastava, Lucknow
by Sanjeev Srivastava on Aug 06, 2008 05:20 PM  Permalink

The truth of IAEA with member nations smartly gulping down their resentments because of Muscle Uncle Sam was very visible and this Pakistan did not fail commenting on its Nuke policy. IAEA done and a step closer to CTBT, next is this NSG and the concern of Japan for India to sign CTBT, NPT is loud and clear. HYde Act and 123 Agreement clearly speaks of India NOT to conduct nuclear tests and this reality is again smartly turned down by MMS peoples and UPA Govt. We are talking of clean waiver at NSG and this is fantasy as USA has started claiming. If we make girlfriends with wrong intentions, we talk about everything good and big and talk of dreams coming true. And when the girl finds that there an intercourse has happened and she is left for nothing or couple of dollars, we know we Indians are slowly moving towards such a blockade. We talked of NSG waiver and we know that it is only NPT is grab of sweeties which MMS has been depicted in SINGH IS KING in America. We Indians are not to hear this song. After all it is meant for USA ears and Indian ears are to be sucked as girls lips are. Coming to fantasy and NSG, if this MMS sings the next tune in India, I am going to forget voting card at all during elections. BJP, CPI, BSP any party would do but not this UPA and they have all foreign mongers selling dreams of crores of jobs as Rahul Gandhi has promised and low cost nuclear energy as UPA is promising. And in return Parvati gets Buffalo to earn livelihood. Jingles Bells Jesus.

The deal is NOT about electricity.
by Jagadis Bose on Aug 06, 2008 05:16 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If electricity shortage is the primary concern of the day for the government, why hasn't Manmohan Singh uttered the word "conservation" in the last four years ? If the country is facing shortage of power then shouldn't we limit or ban air-conditioners and other unnecesary power guzzling appliances in private homes and also offices, or take care of the distribution losses. Even in the US conservation is a big part of the discourse regarding power shortages (from what I read in their newspapers).

Manmohan Singh is being dishonest -- the nuclear deal has ulterior motives -- the issue about power generation is there only to make it palatable to the general public, who otherwise would find this strategic subservience to the US a bitter pill to swallow.

It started with the signing of black day declaration.
Aim to get Uranium from market
Canada and Australia holds 50% of world uranium deposit.
Reported that at the present rate of use world deposit will last till 2070.
Initially GoI was projecting to increase capacity by 6000MW.
Later it is enhanced to 20000MW by 2020 presumably to make it appealing
By conventional methods commissioning such large capacity addition in 12 years is impossible.
The cost of Uranium will be dictated by Australia and Canada by 2020 as the plant is running.

The decommissioning cost is very high.
Google “Group chosen for Sellafield job” Briton and Nevada “Report: Nuclear waste disposal will cost US $96B”
By International standard the nuclear waste is to be kept safe for ten thousand years.
Waste include all materials used at the site including switch gears and other plants and used fuel rods.
Contract at Sellafield awarded to a consortium. Cost -1.7 Billion sterling pounds a year for ten years.
Nevada site is for used rods alone which cost $96 Billions at the present cost. Inflation additional. Disposal of other materials is additional. Cost yet to be decided.
Compare cost of coal and gas fuels.
It was in the news that oil price hike was artificially created.
Other problems: Radiation hazards and terrorism
Reckless terms of project have been negotiated.

Why should we surrender our freedom and sovereignty for this deal? Stand for the debt trap?

Jagdishji Bose.

Its all about power.
1. Diplomatic-power: India will join the coveted few of the N-club in a specially new created category. India gains substantially in getting rid of the ban.
2. Nuclear-energy: The power would be the by-product. Today just 2% contribution. Just imagine if this becomes 15%, will it improve upon or not India's power shortage.
3. Political power: India gains politically as after this only Pak and Israel remain out of N-business. In fact only Pak. No other govt dare support Pakistan like India is getting the support from the world.
4. Economic power: If we are getting access to n-technology, then you have to pay. Besides tech, India would be able use its own Uranium production for military purposes and use all imported for power generation.
Hawks say that N-power is expensive. My dear friends, fossil fuels have doubled in last couple of years from 80$ to 140$. Does India have the might to capture a few gulf countries and secure its energy needs? Absolutely not.
Lets be fair anf just.

India is a growing and we have to learn to behave like responsible citizen.

The deal is good and it helps India in its immediate needs and have a long term strategic gains.

Its now BUSH responsibility to deliver - and we can travel to UNSC with this passport
by Jose PM on Aug 06, 2008 05:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Indo-US nuke deal is win-win for both parties. But in India-it faced stiff resistance from political outfits. (ironically from BJP as well-though they were the promoters of strategic relationship with US, during the Vajpayee tenure). Experiencing one of the major political crisis in Indian parliament's history, the present UPA succeeded in getting it accross. Dr. Manmohan has delivered his promise. Now it is in US court... Bush has to oblige his words.. unless he is able diplomatically get the consensus - it is failure of Bush admin and not of UPAs.
What ever word Mr. Daryl Kimball uses - fantasy or India's day dream.. this nuke deal is also our passport to "permanent UN Security Council". SO LET ALL PATRIOTIC INDIANS SUPPORT THE UPA- AND DR. MANMOHAN AND HIS BUREAUCRATS -IRRESPECTIVE OF POLITICAL DISPARITIES.

Nobody cares to the false and hollow accusations. I hope you remember the discussion before Parliament vote; UPA is doomed, UPA sinking, Maya for PM, but who prevailed.

"Aqal ka Taala khol" aur discuss with substance.
I am whom-so-ever, lets talk on the topic, if you have guts and some Brains?
You do not have guts to come out with your name, speaks volumes of your character.

Infact, the Indo-US nuke deal has created massive visibility to "Indians" and clear exemption would give it greater respect and esteem among other countries.. So naturally, next target would be UNSC permanent membership.

Jose PM,
Your views are what the country wants and what India wants.
What progressive thinking people who care for the country wants.
Rightly said, UNSC seat will be the next step.

I bet it, if BJP is in opposition at that time, they will oppose it.

Sorry, for the small irritation in between. Some insignificant mosquito was humming around and elayed my response to you, who had no name.
