RE:Idol Worship is prohibited in Hinduism:
by ADAMROMANOV on Aug 04, 2008 07:50 AM  Permalink

Idol worship is just a means of concentrating your devotion and connecting with the almighty ... in vedas you can worship through bhakti (idol worship) or thru meditation ...

BUT PLEASE BAN THE CULT OF THE PEDDO* MURDERER RAP*IST MUHAMMED - THE BANE OF ALL PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD

Coming back to your description, let's understand what was meant by Demi-Gods and following their rules for worship etc.
> This verse was in reference to people who resort to some puja/ritual etc to please Gods who are not the "Supreme". Since there are some vedic references for people to pray to certain Gods for certain things, like a diseased person is recommended to worship Sun etc..
What Srhi Krshna meant was that there is no need to do such thing. Only those who are not driven by material desires and have intelligence to be free of materialistic goals and lusts will surrender to Supreme God Krshna. A pure devotee never goes to demi-Gods for material things, but depends upon Shri Krshna only. AND he is satisfied with what he is given.

The same message is also given by Shri Ram (not directly though). "One should live the way Ram keeps him."

I will get back to you with more on other Ved. But I am sure you are taking things out of context and using your own meanings.

they could have spent the money to make the temple route safe
by S Das on Aug 04, 2008 07:45 AM  Permalink

govt spent 130 lakhs on the deceased. they should spend at least this amount to make temple paths safe. this is not the first time this has happened but this should be the last. the temple is at 7000 feet with 4kms of railings. it was mentioned that 25000 people were too many to support the railings. this should be a lesson to all organising kumbh melas and all the important shrines around India. My prayers go to the deceased. I can well imagine the horror and panic created by the stampede. Very disheartening to say the least.

Tagore Again

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

Mind Without Fear

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up

into fragments by narrow domestic walls;

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason

has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action---

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

RICH = POOR
by Ahmad Nawaz on Aug 04, 2008 07:05 AM  Permalink

I am shocked by by some of your comments. I am Muslim but I cannot imagine somebody saying "130 less mouths to feed"!!!! First of all all human beings are created equal and second if some happen to be less fortunate and poor you should thank Allah for blessing you with whatever you have. Whenever anybody, Muslim or non-Muslim dies we are supposed to recite a line which translates into "We all came because of God and we all shall return to Him". And that is to make all the living people feel humble and realize that NOBODY is immune or immortal and that the GUY WHO DRIVES A MERCEDES will leave as empty handed as the GUY WHO PULLS THE RICKSHAW! And that is the truth. God does not like anybody's pride or arrogance no matter what they follow and who they are. That. IN fact we are constantly told that the rich amongst us have more explaining to do upon dyeing as we have to answer why we did not feed that dying beggar when we were going out to dine at a five star restaurant. This is a sick mentality that all desis possess.

Anti social elements do this
by shivkumar on Aug 04, 2008 06:59 AM  Permalink

We in India have a great number of festivals for which people gather in great numbers. Many of these people are not devotees but are there to dupe, rob and have fun with the ladies. This happens in every congregation. Such elements who go with the malintentions spread rumours also and start off the stampede.

I am shook to read that 80 children are dead may god bless these families I can’t imagine what is going with their parents now its high time to think the polices of India every life is important in this world in it own unique way Govt must bring good polices and spend some money on studying how they can improve the safety at temples and not on parties for cash-for-vote they are many good consultant in India who can provide their services to improve the situation in these temples this stumped as not happened once or twice but many times in India and still Govt is not bothered of such situation only media can bend Govt now but they don’t because they won’t get the booty from 1200 cr. congress declared for election campaign in this situation only two think can change India one is Govt and second Media but unfortunately both are not with people of India

For once. I agree that its not congress at the receiving end. this area is under BJP rule. The problem is our politicians dont work and are so busy protecting their chair even after election that they dont work. man.

When an engineer does not work, bridges fall.
When a doctor does not work people die.
When a politician does nt work people die in hunger and all other ways.

MAy god burn these politicians in hell fire when they dont work

No accountability
by Fun Lover on Aug 04, 2008 05:51 AM  Permalink

The problem in India is that we don't hold anyone accountable for these type of incidents. Whenever these incidents occur, the respective state Governments or the Union Government will order an investigation and announce some compensation. However, the result of these investigations hardly makes any headlines. This is true even in the case of terrorist attacks. Media will initially make a lot of noise. Politicians come up with all sorts of statements promising "action". But at the end of the day, there is no genuine introspection or professional investigation. Nobody is held accountable. It will be back to square one till the next time such incident occurs, at which point the same cycle repeats. Our Indian system is a big failure.

i used a word which was apt for you which unfortunately didnt appear becasue rediff mail does not allow people to use bad language...how unfortunate...I am not a hindu but i do respect the sentiments of the hundreds who went on for that pilgrimage....The very existence of God is a preception in itself...so how can u claim that gods everywhere so u dont need to have places of worship..funny because u talk as if Gods a scientific discovery at the same time look down upon people who went in search of him....boy u have no moral authority to do that...and one more thing....u wont speak like that if one of your brother sister or parent was that ''one mouth less to feed''.How callous and hhow mean can u get at a time when hundreds of people ,never mind religion,are in distress.Learn to respect human life buddy.there are millions of people in india but each and everyone has a mind ..and the hurt these MORONs as u put it...went through when they got trampled cannot be rubbed off by ur wonderful comments....

How elitist and condescending! This is probably how our politicians think. That is why no amount of human tragedy seems to have any effect on them.

Humm,
It depends on what concept one reads Mr Birdi's comment.
There always two sides of the coin.
Reading one side it is a slap on the face of the authorities.
Reading the other side it down right ignorance of facts.
No1) Yes lots of people die in factories,Building sites, road accidents.
what is the authorities doing about the safety of such places and safety of the public places such as places of worship etc.
According to the authorities be it central government, local government or management of the work places or places ow worship it does not matter who go there and who get killed, yes fro them there are 130 less mouths to feed.
These people in high places do think that only idiots vist these places and waste time.
Side no 2)
It is bad to point the finger towards the victim it is not there fault.
These people went to worship in a place that they have belife in, they went in good faith.
The railing was not strong enough to hold the amount of worshiper that visited the temple.
It was weak and gave way, worshiper paniced 9 normar behavior of us humans.
A stempede took place as every one was trying to reach safety and 130 died in the process through none of there fault.
In concolusion it is the authorities both of the government and the temple to blame. for not implimenting correct safety proceedures,inspecting and making safe any dengerous area.
So we cant completly blame Mr Birdi for his comments.
