Nuclear energy is only costlier than coal of all the non-renewable resources. coal which you probably know has very big environmental costs and is dirtiest source(if you have heard about global warming). Renewable resources have their limits which is why no country has been able to harness them to make them major contributors yet but work is on. 1. Solar - too expensive - 5 times Nuclear. 2. Wind - Limited scope but currently doing better than Solar. 3. Hydel - Big but limited by rivers and no major possibilities in near future.
Thorium is a research project and has been ongoing in India for more than 30 years but we are working in isolation and other countries working together by sharing technology so we are behind. Unfortunately, energy can not be wished into appearing and among all that is available, N Power has most potential which India has not been able to utilize. Which is why Kalam/MMS /others think India would do better with Nuclear Energy.
The biggest looser out of all this fiasco (created by communists BJP) is the cunning and opportunist BJP, because communists proven to be on principle, they threat the support and they actually act upon it, and congress proved to be the strongest sticking to the deal even at the cost of loosing the government(in the interest of nation), the BJP first it try to present itself as in favor of the deal, and when it see an opportunity to topple the government it sided with communists(so much for sake of nationalism ? all BS), this is the real face of BJP. The end result India win BJP loose.

"We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources" "I could not sleep thinking about Hanif" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manmohan_Singh
Did Pakistan or China abstain from meeting or approved the deal? Iran's opposition shows that it does not matter how good relations India have with Islamic country, they will always side their muslim "brothers".
I sincerely hope that India does not go ahead with India-Iran-Pakistan pipeline does not go ahead. It will just give them (Iran and Pakistan) to plan terrorist attacks against India.
It is a milestone achievement of our able Prime Minister & Union Minister for External Affairs. Had they not piloted the Indo-US Nuclear Deal well in time and got convinced members of IAEA by sending their emissaries to convince them, the deal could not have gone through IAEA very successfully. It has added few more feathers to their caps. Let us congratulate our Prime Minister & Union Minister of External Affairs for their heroic role that they played to get through the Indo-US Nuclear Deal through IAEA very successfully with flying colors! Surely, the prestige of our motherland has enhanced. Let us offer our floral tributes to Our Prime Minister for getting it through in spite of stiff opposition of many including left communist parties,Telgu Desham Party,Bahujan Samaj Party etc in our own country!

Agree completely. Terrorists in India must be hanging themselves in shame for the 'failed' blasts. Never before a single bomb was discovered and diffused ever in Indian history by the hordes of bomb experts in the traditionally vulnerable cities of Mumbai and Delhi. But, a lone bomb diffuser in Surat was able to diffuse 21 bombs in 3 days, of which 18 bombs were found and diffused on Day 1 itself? This must go into Ripley's 'believe it or not'. Is this a JOKE? Sorry, this is too good to be true. And if true, the Surat police must be immediately nominated for Bharat Ratna. Their brilliance and noble act cannot be recognised with anything less.

That would have happened if the religion of the victims and that of the heroic bomb disposal officer was not Hindu.

Rubbish. In India anything can be manufactured against the Hindus. Just as Ladoo Yadav got Bannerjee to say that the Godhra train burnings were done from the inside, now they are saying that Hindus are bombing themselves. Go, get a life!
This deal means India coming out powerful, coming out of sanctions due to nuke tests and also closer ties with West specially US. This is a dangerousely double standard world. Being alone will not help our people. A powerful economy like ours needs powerful friends to protect its economical interests and trade. India needs to be a powerful military power to deter enemies. Who cares if you are weak.

Myth #14: The deal is not primarily about making money; it is about creating a new U.S. strategic relationship in south Asia.
Fact: The deal is primarily about making money. The main effect of the deal will be to pardon India – to remove it as a violator of international norms. After such a change in status, there will be no impediment to U.S. arms sales. This is where the real money is, not in nuclear reactors. U.S. exporters have mentioned selling as much as $1.4 billion worth of Boeing airliners, hundreds of F-16 or F/A-18 fighter jets, as well as maritime surveillance planes, advanced radar, helicopters, missile defense and other equipment. The Russian press has even complained that the nuclear deal is a ploy to squeeze Russia out of the Indian arms market.
