The last elections the state saw is urban local bodies in September 2007 in that JDS got the lead while congress came second and the BJP the distant 3rd. However lot has changed since then. I guess BJP can't get majority as its not strong in all parts. If it has to get majority it has to sweep more than 20 seats out of 28 in Bangalore city alone. BJP is strong in Coastal and Mumbai Karnataka while its a considerable force in Hyderabad Karnataka and urban south Karnataka but weak in rural southern Karnataka where there are 40-50 seats

I like to add that even the ULB elections, though coming second, the Congress led the JD(S) in double digits.

How much can the situation improve for the BJP? Urban areas are their strongholds and they come a poor third - almost 15-20% behind the Congress

Bangaloreans must banish Deve Gowda or Gaddha if they wish to see any developmental works come to fruit.
by Lopesh Desai on Apr 29, 2008 12:28 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

First he does not know how to behave like a former P.M, he has become a pain all over the body for Bangalore and Bangaloreans. He has made it very clear time and again that he simply cannot tolerate anything that could make Bangalore a little more developed than his native village Narayana Murthy had to suffer Deve Gowda s abuses too. What is Murthy admired for? For several things: it was Murthy s company Infosys that showed, he quit chairmanship of the Bangalore international airport project as soon as Deve Gowda spewed venom on him but, of course, after giving Deve Gowda a fitting reply in facts and figures, after which the latter has shut his mouth tight with a Raagi Ball. Now , his latest target is the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project. He spoiled it eles Bangalore and Mysore will get a piece of world-class infrastructure and the people of Bangalore and Mysore will get a little bit of speed and comfort, hecannot tolerate. Why should this man have any say at all in Bangalore s affairs? Why should Bangaloreans continue to tolerate his brand of politics? Why should he be allowed to scuttle Bangalore s development? Deve Gowda can t sleep otherwise.

We know that Yediruppa and BJP are on the run if.....
by Pop Head on Apr 29, 2008 12:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yediruppa files for a second seat in Koppal. But then Koppal is the coastal belt which is supposed to be BJP's stronghold in 2004. However, Modi went to Karkala and was received by poor crowds and poorer crowd response to his speeches that he began to stammer and was knicknamed Verendra (Moily) by the people in attendance.

So with coastal Karnataka slipping away from the BJP, most likely Yediruppa may not file a second nomination as there does not seem to be any safe seats for any BJP candidate, leave alone for one project for CM

BJP is an extreme rightwing communal party, it is far more dangerous than the terrorists in the country. This judgment was given by a Supreme Court, while ordering reinvestigation on the Post Godhra communal violence in Gujarat. BJP is anti poor, anti labour and it is against the 75% people of this country. The communal parties like BJP is a cancer to the nation and the cancer affected parts should cut and thrown in the Arabian Sea.

If BJP is a cancer, Congress, Left Parties, JD (S) are AIDS, that is the reason congress ruled this country for more than 50 years, they could not route out corruption, they have no programme to route corruption, more than 30 to 40% of our population still live below poverty, unemploymnet problems is never ending,In karnataka out of 150 Engineering colleges, more than 50% belong to congress & JD (S) politicians, this time people have dediced to vote for BJP, BJP will get absolute majority, both bangarappa, Deve gowda & his sons, and congress will be stumpted.

Jayakumar,
Wherever BJP is ruling, there these problems such as poverty, unemployment, poverty illiteracy, and rampant corruption. You take example of Madhyapradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal. And in Gujarat since 1947, this state have got heavy central governmentment investment in almost all the districts of the state and attached to these big industries, small scale industries have come up and industrialisation taken place. But if you go to rural gujarat, you can see the poverty ridden villagers.

Why this is yet another Whammy for the BJP
by Pop Head on Apr 29, 2008 11:58 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The JD(S)and Congress has not fielded any candidate against Bangarappa. In many seats, Congress, JD(S), JD(U)and JD (S) all are contesting. However through informal arrangements, they field weak candidates to enable the strongest among them to win

This is yet another whammy for the BJP who was depending on division of secular votes to scrap through. This turns as what appears as a multi-polar contest to a bi-polar contest between secular parties viz BJP though there is no pre-poll alliance among the secular parties. However the secular parties have laid the ground for post-alliance.

Vote Share 2004

Congress 37.5
BJP 28.0
JD(S)& JD(U) 22.8

Much of BJP's winning seats were because of its alliance with JD(U) who are contesting independently this time round

BJP is always a party of minority Hindus (upper castes). Its only chance of winning any election is when it piggy rides any other political party. This time it is left alone and therefore it will be completely marginalized, like in the last election in UP, where it is placed 4th.

BJP lost its deposits in 42 seats. Where they are strongest, they polled in excess to win. They won 30-40 seats, because of division of secular votes on razor thin margins. This time even their fortress is under attack
