These days when i read articles, it seems that to ATTRACT READERS rediff TWIST statements.
For eg here the news Rediff presented is 'People living in Karnataka should learn Kannada'
WHILE Ananthamurthy said "I fervently desire that those people who decide to live in Karnataka should voluntarily learn Kannada and send their children to Kannada schools"
UNFORTUNATELY people do not read articles well and START FIGHTING ON NAME OF RELIGION; CASTE; LANGUAGE etc..

I totally agree with you. The press in all forms of media is sensationalising issues. They are no different from politicians. Atleast politicians can be voted out but what can you do with a media that plays Devil and does not understand its responsibilities? Nowadays there are very few thought provoking articles. They only promote hate and bias.

It's rediffs job to increase site visits.. get you to read it and spend time on the page.. so that they can push their ads and make money. It's our job to discern, and do accordingly.
I am a kannadiga but every kannadiga should be Indian first and should speak hindi first. Regional idli wada languages should come next. I don't understand why one state can't give to water to other state. After they are Indians and are humans.

Even R Venkat Raman, our ex-president suggested this (writing hindi in Roman script). As a short term measure it is ok. But blind adoption of English replacing indian languages may prove hazardous in long run.

We need some more people like you its not abt only hindi is also abt attittude being nice to people who come here for bread as they generate income for all classes and not only for themselves
It is always advantageous to know the local language. I am amazed as to how many local Kannadigas too do not know their local language. I need a Kannada teacher but locals are so expensive. Will someone give me a reasonable alternative?

you should learn kannada at oxford university.its cheaper out there. just like sonia went to oxford to learn english.
I just can't accept the fact that a responsible medium like rediff would use title that is totally opposite to what the author wants to communicate. Atleast in cases where the person speaks so geniuine and so appropriate. I wish we use the right sense of journalism to convery the right meaning.
There is no question of tolerence either. In my office, I saw two Kannada idiots threatening a new Telugu guy. Reason- He was talking too much to a kannada girl!

Be a roman in rome! Yes of course, everyone living in karnataka should learn kannada. everyone living in tamilandu shud learn tamil. This rule shud be followed in every state. Hindi is not our national language, south indians won't accept it. If north thinks we shud learn hindi then north shud learn south indian languages. Even muslims in karnataka dont speak good kannada, their accent is yuck!!! they are anti-kannada! Everyone living in karnataka should learn to speak kannada, or else leave karnataka! dont stay here! All over the world, local language and people have a dominant say except in few countries. It is alright if outsiders occupy top managerial, scientific and administrative jobs but unskilled labour, clerks, helpers, messengers where merit is not a factor should be predominantly from local population. Bangalore and Mumbai are two places in our country where local language and people are ignored and outsiders are imposing their language and people. I request all broad-minded people look at their own state and evaluate the dominance of its language and people there before commenting on Bangalore and Mumbai. Even Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton has said that jobs in USA should not be outsourced but should be given to locals. May broad-minded people please introspect.

Sorry Pranesh, you are not entirely right. Kolkata like Bangalore and Mumbai , is also a city facing the same problem linguistically speaking. Kolkata is turning out to be city where Bengali is becoming the least spoken language in public places. Hindi, Marwari and Bhojpuris are becoming the majority. For sustainable development of human societies and cultures there should not be unfair and unacceptable influence of one culture over the other. If that happens it may be termed as cultural imperialism.So same applies to Kolkata , not just Mumbai and Bangalore.

U cant even differenciate between National and Regional Language. Ofcourse there are different accents of kannada in Karnatake itself (North and South Karnataka... so... does that make any difference... a true Indian wouldnt argue on these regionalism.

Hindi/Urdu is being imposed over all regional languages. All local languages like Marathi. Gujrati, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Tellugu etc are being marginalized.
