InRome do as the Romans do!
by Jai Babu on Apr 29, 2008 11:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I dont agree with everything this Dr. Murthy is saying but what is the harm in learning the local language and being sensitized to the local culture? If I live in Karnataka I should make an attempt to learn Kannada or if in Tamil Nadu -Tamil, In Bengal- Bengali or in Maharashra- Marathi, AP-Telugu or for that matter in any North Indian state- Hindi. This will in fact strengthen the bonds of national unity and will not lead to excessive regionalism. It will also help mute the feeling that Hindi is being foisted on people by virtue of it being spoken by more people in North India.

As a non Kannadiga, I absolutely agree thoughI am married to a Kannada girl. Kannadigas have been innately decent and tolerant. Just look at the number of theatres running Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies in Bangalore. Many cities of Karnataka have large migrant populations but they have never been ill treated or resented as outsiders. Except for the ugly political shennanigans, Karnataka is one the best states in India to live in.

Karnataka .... fast becoming a rogue state in India
by Global Analyst on Apr 29, 2008 11:18 AM  Permalink

Karnataka has either already acquired or fast acquiring the tag of a rogue state. These people have a scant respect for the Supreme court order. They have river & border disputes with all neighbouring states. Compared to other neighbouring states such as Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, AP & Kerala, their language & culture is least known. Therefore, they have a inferiority complex and insecure about their language & culture. People are lazy. Therefore they depend on other states' people to develop. This gives rise to lingusitic terrorist organisations such as KANNADA RAKSHANA VEDIKE OR KANNADA CHALUVALI etc.,

Ban the Linguistic terrorist organisations
by Global Analyst on Apr 29, 2008 11:08 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Ban Linguistic terrorist organisations such as KANNADA CHALUVALI & KANNADA RAKSHANA VEDIKE. Arrest linguistic terrorists such as this fellow Udupi, Vatal Nagaraj, etc. Otherwise there is a real danger that this Linguistic chauvinism will divide the country. The journey for disintegration could start not from Srinagar or Amritsar or Gangtok but from Bangalore/Mangalore

people from karnataka who live in mumbai they should learn marathi. If go to calcutta learn bangali. This will really make india great. All state fighting for supermacy of thier own language. India will go 200 years back when it was divided in small states and each king used to keep fighting with each other.

by nitin k on Apr 29, 2008 10:48 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is going to be a rule in every state that a migrant will need to learn the local language within an year of his/her residence in that state! It is a welcome rule, and has more advantages than disadvantages. At the cost of a few arrogant brats, the rule makes sure that migrants don't overwhelm the locals and be one with their culture, and on the other hand, it supports a more equitable distribution of talent (by discouraging migration) and thereby all of the country grows at the same rate!

Ah come on.. where was south India in the 60s, 70s and 80s? All of the country's productivity was from the North Indian states.. So at different times, different states push the nation and its economy.

Honestly, Karnataka could be on its way to become a Bimaru state too, if the politics isn't cleaned up at this juncture. The likes of Deve Gowda and his kin will make the state what Lalu and his kin made of Bihar. I pity the Biharis, the state which was historically on the fore front of Indian politics/education and culture has been ruined in a couple of decades, and their locals dont have a say in how their state should be governed.. :(

Hang on a second, friend. Like the so called development of your state, your knoledge is also very shallow. First, your developement is only a shade better than Bimarus. It simply means that a person just sitting Above Poverty Line (APL) does not become a rich man. Also, take out just few big cities like Banagalore, Hyderabad, Chennai out, and the situation there is no better than any Bimaru state.
