respect of women
by roy jose on Apr 28, 2008 10:44 AM  Permalink

The lack of respect for girls and women in our society is the main reason for alarming cases of rapes. Women r just not respected in this country. We've experience this in trains and buses in cities/towns, in India. A standing girl or woman is not offered a seat by their sitting male counterparts. We consider women as mere bodies to satisfy our lust. The mother of the house is majorly responsible for this. Boys, when they r very young (say, around 9-10 years) should be taught to treat girls and women with respect and the mother shud teach this. If this happens, then rapes rates will fall drastically. Look at the westeners, how they open the car doors for the women, how they pull a chair for a woman. A teenage boy in the west takes away a girl from her house for a night party with her parents' permission and is brought back safely by him in the morning. Can Indian parents ever imagine of doing that ? Never ever ! So, to sum up, respect women as somebody with not just a body, but also with a mind and heart and things will improve.

Men should keep it in their pants. Don't blame the women. They are already underprivileged in Male Chauvinistic India.

I stronlgy feel the best way to stop this rape is ,the man who does this for any age of girl, his one leg or his hand his eye should be removed from their body then the second person will not even dared to touch any girl nor he will see .
The day this type of law comes then only indian women or indian girl can walk freely on the roads of india .

Making laws stricter isn't enough
by Raavan on Apr 28, 2008 04:51 AM  Permalink

There are already thousands of laws which are disregarded and disdained every day in India. What's needed is to enforce the laws forcefully and systematically. We need to bring more scientific methods - DNA testing etc. to make sure the accused person is indeed guilty. Make Rape courts that are private, have female representation and are faster than the current pace.
More importantly, we need to make both men and women aware of their rights and make it clear that rape is a crime. 75% of rape cases happen with a family member involved. We need to instill confidence in women that justice system can be trusted.
A massive, massive program to liberate Indian woman is desperately needed in India. Women have been oppressed in our society for too long. Successful girls like Sania Mirza, actresses (yes, yes), and businesswomen should be heavily promoted and encouraged.

Men are creat ing problem for themselves
by Rakesh Mahto on Apr 28, 2008 04:42 AM  Permalink

We are country were we have female god with male god. we pray them equally. Then y we Indian people never be able to give respect women. In past we killed women for dowry and forced government to make strict law. The result is some of girls family is using it against guys family. Some innocent people suffered because of this law. And now people are forcing government to make a strict Rape law. I am not against passing this law but want government to make sure that women do not use it to exploit mens for their benefit. Wake up people of Indian. Start giving justice to Rape victim or u all have to suffer the consequences of strict rape law. In the end i just want to say Indian start behaving properly with females. They r a part of society.

The rape is new feminist weapon beware!
by Indori Baba on Apr 28, 2008 04:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Remember the dowry harrasment laws? Well all it has done is giving new tools for some women to harass men, while it does not protect the real victims ( women ). All dowry cases now have one common thing, husband is earning good or has good property.
Same thing will happen with this Rape thing. Current punishments are adequate for rape. Improve policing and conviction there is nothing wrong in the law. For a forcefull intercourse, 10 years is more than enough.

Start to strengthen moral values, OR stop degradation of moral values, few things: censor TV and print media and show women with dignity in media
by indian on Apr 27, 2008 11:50 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Strengthen moral values, OR stop degradation of moral values first.

Things that affect on a large scale are Television, Cinema and print media.
(internet is another medium which is difficult to police)

Television channels are beemed to every house almost. So first there should be censoring of tv channels.

Pop ("paap") songs have too explicit and suggestive actions and also "show women without dignity" these may provoke people. On similar lines movies and print media can be argued.

One may wonder why print media? Consider TimesOfIndia newspaper for example, this satanic news paper prints articles like k% of children below the age of 17 mate and thing like that. Why on earth are they publishing such things??
Dont these news degrade chldren? This is only one example there are many such contrversial things published by such newspapers to corrupt the minds of people :-(

You may argue that censoring printing may amount to hiding.
Yes it is hiding, and it is required. There are many things like "ghosts" for example, where the truth is hidden from us, that does not mean every day we think about them. The reason why such secret things do not interest us every day is because nothing reminds us about them. But when it comes to adult content, every day peple are bombarded through Tv channels, cinema and print media which unnecessarily provokes people.

That does not mean that men should take advantage of young innocent girls.
These grown ups should know that it is a crime to rape any women regardless of the age.
The grown up men have better brains to thing then an 11 years old.

rape
by ashok leyland on Apr 27, 2008 11:47 PM  Permalink

Until we educate young people in every class, town, city and village that women have equal rights, that they can say NO and mean it, and that sex is a natural part of life and not to repress till it leads to rape of the women and girls in the household and family, there will always be men who think that it is their right to abuse children, sisters, cousins , neighbours, young girls and women anywhere. Men who are sick because they feel that whatever a woman wears it is to tempt him.

Unless and until we men learn to respect ALL womenfolk whether close relatives or not, this criminal behaviour will continue. It will probably help if this crime is publically denounced with the rapist lead through the streets to be shamed.
