Religion started out as a way to bring people together. However, most deaths, destruction, war, genocides have resulted due to blind belief in religion. Hence, religion is one of the biggest evils. That applies to all religions. Even communism.
We need open-mindedness, belief in SCIENCE and LOGIC, and HUMANITY as the new religions, if we are to live in a non-violent, peaceful way and make progress.

Firstly - you missed the concepts of "HUMANITY". and "OPEN-MINDEDNESS". These rulers also were blined by the religions of power and money!
Secondly, millions of people and hundreds of civilizations - Persians, North Africans, Aztecs, Mayas and countless others, have been obliterated in the name of religion. Forgotten the "Crusades"? What about the "Inquisition"? "Jihad" has been going on since Islam started! Millions of women in medieval Europe were killed as they were suspected to be "witches". Hindus themselves spread a reign of terror against the Buddhists during the 2nd-3rd century A.D. and managed to drive Buddhism out of the country! All this happened due to a false sense of religious superiority and blind belief in religion. In the 20th century, all that changed was that political ideology, money and power became the new religions. The key factor being "NARROW-MINDEDNESS, INTOLERANCE, and BLIND_FAITH".
Truth about religions : All religions are man made, and all are good till the time they benefit the society by spreading truth, humanity, positive approach to life, fear of god for sinful work.
But when religion goes into negative, it is worse thing in human civilization.

It is not a question of 6th or 21st century Indian...........it is a bloody cult which asks for establishment of dar-ul-islam all over the world..........and considers lands not controlled by islam as dar-ul-harb (land of war)........
such a philosophy is fascism.........nothing else...
