A person should be judged on his merits, not the number of votes he gets from the masses who know bugger all about the arts of governing. A person should be given the highest office in the land by a number of people who know the chosen man's abilities, strengths and weaknesses, not some goof whom the masses know practically nothing about. An elected politician is no gurantee of his ability to lead the country in a way that suits the conditions and circumstances of the country in question. The important thing is to choose the right person to lead the country, not the means by which that person is chosen. Democracy might work for India. Autocracy is working for China nicely. We have no intention to change our time-tested system that has been a major contributor to our economic success. We believe that the sacrifices of the few is for the good of the majority. That's the way things should be done. That's why what can be done in one year in China usually takes 10 years in India. The race is on and time is the essence.

At the end of the day, what matters most to ONE is in ONE'S HEAD. If China's way of life appeals to you, great, so be it. Indians cherish democracy over creature comforts. They are willing to work through consensus, albeit at a slower and nerve wracking pace. There are comfortable in working with each other, no matter what. PROGRESS IS NOT IN STONES, PROGRESS IS IN HUMAN HEAD. Democratic ideal is a progressive way of thinking.

yes, but my other needs have been fulfilled .. had they not been fulfilled, I wouldn't have cared about writing .... so democracy is good for those who have their basic needs met ... if most of india is poor and people do not have food for their family or a home whose roof leaks when it rains, do not care about writing in public forum. do they?
it's all relative ... democracy is certainly not at the top of your shopping list.

Gujarat Genocide of Muslims,
Malegaon Bomb Blasts,
Mumbai Bomb Blats
All caried by the Hindu Nazis and blamed on the Muslims becuase its easy times and less international scrutiny. So up urs bhindians

Democracy is Humanising. Other systems prevent humans from expressing their THOUGHTS AND IDEAS which are the very soul of human beings, and which make them different from animals.
RE:Boycott
by Loan Shark on Apr 18, 2008 07:06 AM Permalink
well, that's not the point here. democracy may be a better option for some but not for all .. like US wanted to put democracy in Iraq and has failed thus far.
freedom of expression of thought comes with the responsibility of accepting others' right to express his/her thoughts too ... that responsibilty does not come by imposing democracy ... a society has to be ready for democracy
Today, India got a taste of life..chinese style withing the heart of its own country. I see no point in having a torch relay when the people of the country are not even allowed to witness it. There was even greater security then what it is generally on Republic Day. Only a few school children and Chinese delegates( carrying anti-BBC anti-CNN anti-Sarkozy anti-Dalai Lama banners were allowed to witness the torch relay. It is ridiculous that the chinese were given permission while the Indians were shooed away from Janpath and around. I dont understand WHY the Indian government is so pro China and is going to such extents to please them

April 15 (Bloomberg) -- The next time some politician or activist suggests an Olympic boycott I want you to think of Craig Beardsley. And then tell me that countries suddenly outraged at China's record on human rights shouldn't send their athletes to Beijing. You probably don't recognize the name Craig Beardsley. Unlike swimmers Mark Spitz or Michael Phelps, Beardsley never got his Olympic chance to win hearts and minds. ``I was really breaking through,'' Beardsley said during a recent hour-long telephone conversation. ``The timing was right in 1980.'' Physically, yes. Geopolitically, no. The Russians were in Afghanistan, prompting the U.S. to pull out of competition. Beardsley remembers having pizza with friends when told of President Jimmy Carter's decision to boycott the Summer Games in Moscow. ``Even then, we were thinking, `what good does a boycott really do?'' he said. Sports fans should know what the Beardsley family sacrificed for a chance to represent the U.S. Beardsley at age 4 learned to swim at the 92nd Street Y on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He attended the United Nations International School, where one of his classmates was an Afghani prince. ``It was like a mini U.N.,'' Beardsley said. ``At a very early age we recognized we're not just one little island on this planet.''

Diplomacy runs in the Beardsley family. His grandfather was consul-general for the
Chinese have definitely ignited the passion for FREE TIBET and have seen a large world population share that GENUINE DREAM of Tibetans.
China's rulers by their vulgar display of brutal power in violent repression of the peaceful Buddhists of Tibet has shown that they do NOT respect the rights of others. This view is more strengthened when you reflect on its support of North Korea, Burma, and other such dictatorial rulers.
Chinese Communist Rulers fear Free thinking people. That is why they crushed their own brethern in Tiananmen with an iron hand. Most communist rulers are corrupt dictators. They have hoodwinked the population by diverting funds from its villages to cities. They have caused huge ecological disasters, which will be visible in the next few years - the Three Gorges Dam is going to be a big ecological disaster for a huge region of China. This information is being systematically suppressed.

The Olympics have become a just a big commercial circus. And on top of that, these Olympics are being hosted by our arch-enemy, China. Why should India be falling all over themselves, trying to protect the Olympics torch, spending so much money on the security arrangements? India should have curtly told the Chinese, that due to the tense situation, the torch-run through India would not be possible. Imagine all the money and effort that could have been saved, if we had simply canceled. The security-men on this torch-assignment seem to have been given proper riot-protection gear, in sharp contrast to the the poor policemen in Kashmir, who are forced to face hordes of stone-throwing Islamic barbarians on a daily basis, without being provided with any decent riot-protecion gear, and with the additional foolish constraint being placed upon them, that the police may not fire upon these pieces-of-garbage throwing rocks at the police, because, our Congress government of Manmohammed Singh and Phonyia Gandhi would hate to see any 'innocent' Kashmiri rioter getting injured.
