Great article at the most opportune time, but for whom? All parties are busy fighting the elections, and the public is waiting for IPL to begin. A similar article can be written on water-crisis. I expect rioting for water to start this year. Our political masters however will be satisfied because riots for water are better than communal riots.

I agree to the article fully. However, the real causes are somewhere else. The land productivity and input use efficiency even without matching the best of the world in India is one of the lowest.India, having higher gross cropped, net irrigated area is having one of the dismal crop productivity performance for most the cereals. Concentarting more on research, extension and irrigation facilities enhancement will go a long way to avert such type of crisis. The need is again to boost the farm science research since the development in farm science research is not matching with changes occuring round the globe.
As yo go from Out of Delhi on G.T Karnal Road towards Panipat you will see may Colonies/builder flats etc have come up .3-4 years back they were all agriculture lands.These is bound to cause food shortage.We have to bulk incentives to Farmers so that they do not sell there land to these colonisers
They don't know that claws of cartel and dynasty in ticket(MP/mla) distribution that prevents them for electing PM/CM directly. Till the true democracy is back, INDIA WILL GO DOWN THE TUBES.
1. Will have a 'cascading' effect on remaining food items and will help in reducing the prices and inflation. 2. Will create 'demand' for agricultural products and will 'prevent' farmers suicide. 3. Will prevent 350 million Indians 'starving' every day for a 2nd meal.
