Great article
by A Singh on Apr 17, 2008 05:23 PM  Permalink

Great article at the most opportune time, but for whom?
All parties are busy fighting the elections, and the public is waiting for IPL to begin.
A similar article can be written on water-crisis. I expect rioting for water to start this year.
Our political masters however will be satisfied because riots for water are better than communal riots.

SO what? Only sods of this country had chosen this government, so let them pay.

Oh but AAM AADMI will topple this government, and that will by magic, solve all his problems. he just needs to cast his impotent vote, and be callous, corrupt and spend his time admiring sachin tendulkar and bollywood worthies, while someone else will do his dirty work, especially the ones who earn 500 cr per deal.

learn to live with your karma and dont cry too much..each person is resposible for everything

How about contract farming?
by S Kiran on Apr 17, 2008 04:53 PM  Permalink

It provides guaranteed income to farmers, better technology and finance as well.

However, all political parties are opposed to it. The farmers have to depend on the govt for finances (or local money lenders), minimum support price, .........

Agricultural De-Revolution
by Badri N Raizada on Apr 17, 2008 04:45 PM  Permalink

Long Live IPL to keep the Agricultural Minister happy and busy.Bollywood keeps the Commerce Minister in good Humour and all the business magnates specially the private airline carriers take away all the time and energy of the Aviation Minister. What else can be expected from these geriatric,self-serving pleasure seeking sycophants with little or no time for the people and the Nation.

food crisis due to low productivity and imbalanced food supply chain system
by brajendra parmar on Apr 17, 2008 04:35 PM  Permalink

I agree to the article fully. However, the real causes are somewhere else. The land productivity and input use efficiency even without matching the best of the world in India is one of the lowest.India, having higher gross cropped, net irrigated area is having one of the dismal crop productivity performance for most the cereals. Concentarting more on research, extension and irrigation facilities enhancement will go a long way to avert such type of crisis. The need is again to boost the farm science research since the development in farm science research is not matching with changes occuring round the globe.

Government should distribute 20 kg rice or wheat at Rs 2 per kg per ration card through Public Distribution System
by usa on Apr 17, 2008 04:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. Will have a 'cascading' effect on remaining food items and will help in reducing the prices and inflation.
2. Will create 'demand' for agricultural products and will 'prevent' farmers suicide.
3. Will prevent 350 million Indians 'starving' every day for a 2nd meal.
