India has already tried to mediate in the Sri Lankan Tamil v/s Sinhala dispute and failed. This has been going on from the time that Srimavo Bandarnaike's father was Prime Minister. Considering the fact that almost all of Sri Lanka's political leaders that have died since then have met with assassination it would be best if India stays out of the dispute. Rajiv Gandhi tried to mediate and look how he ended up. It would be best for a third party Nation such as Norway to mediate.

It is our backyard but the dispute has nothing to do with us. The Sinhala majority has always tried to enforce its will on the Tamil minority. The Tamils would do well to raise their voice peacefully in international fora. The approach advised by Mahatma Gandhiji that is non violence is more likely to be useful to them than their current so called "struggle" which is really driven by one man Prabhakaran's megalomania.
