Solution
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Apr 15, 2008 05:16 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What about creating separate institutions for OBC people? Just like in USA where there are institutions which are called Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) where more than 90% of the students are from poor black community and where they can have good education. Why don't we create separate colleges for OBC where only OBC people can study? Then I think all of the problems will be solved.

This is the best solution. Guess who would be their teachers? Retired ministers like Lalu, Arju, Rabri, Ramdoss, etc.

Why should I have to pay for my previous generation?
by Sudip Bhattacharjee on Apr 15, 2008 05:13 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I understand the govt wants to help the backward class. They even said that this is our due to them since long time of abuse and hardship caused by the upper castes. But, I fail to understand one question: why should I be bothered about that? Why should I have to pay for something I didn't do in my life? If anything bad happened, that happened during my previous generation; why should I be liable for their bad doings? I see every OBC friend around me as just a friend; never ever came to my mind about their caste status. Now they are forcing me to think that way. I think it is not only bad, but very unjust to someone who has nothing to do with their so called "bad" status.

You are nothing but a sum of all your previous generations. If you do think that they have sinned, then you partake the responsibility to wipe that sin. But thats not the point. The point is how does reservation help. I will say that it is the responsibility of educated to educate the uneducated be it from any caste. All the folks doing well in their ought to give back something to society.

That means you are prepared to go to jail or stand on death row, if your great grand father murdered someone, but couldn't be punished for his crime (for whatever reasons) and the courts now want to prosecute you........?

And you're another typical crass minded freeloader who is seething with insult since the truth has been told by the author. And the truth is that you and your ilk are robbers of the worst sort.

BTW I must say that the people who brought you up would perhaps not be mighty proud of you if they came to know that it was you who wrote the above stuff.

Upper caste is what upper caste DOES. If you doing dirty things you are low caste. Else you are high caste.

All castes are high only. Each has its dharma which is precious and divine. But you adhaarmik people are the real low class people.

Not the social backwardness but it was untouchablity
by rajendra K on Apr 15, 2008 01:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

When Ambedkar was not the social backwardness but it was untouchablilty. These so called OBC were always in good jobs and holding the Lands. Brahmins had little land. OBC were Rulers, Land owners or Businessmen. They used to manufacture the agriculture equipments, weapons etc. Education is not just reading the alphabets but knowing some technology. OBC use to work in the technology.

Even now also any atrocity happens on untouchable, it is by the so called OBC. Not by Brahmins. They have the power and vote. They are getting this reservation. Not because they need it. This is bullying the untouchables.

Well thought decision
by Sandeep on Apr 15, 2008 01:35 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is a well thought out decision by Supreme court. This if implemented properly will make sure it is harder to abuse reservations which were originally intended to bring up people who would not have made it otherwise due to disadvantages they were born with.
Now some politicians want to make this their vote bank for selfish reasons. Such traitors would not stop at anything to get in power. So they are obviously not too happy about creamy layer since then their kins can not get into premier institutions.
Eliminating creamy layer suits them fine as then they can reap all the benefits while the real folks who deserve this are left behind. At the same time, these selfish people can keep on fooling poorer people of OBCs etc and keep on looking like champions. Best of both the worlds.
They are afraid that if the others start getting chances, they will start seeing through these selfish politician tactics.
Biggest loser is India as the society slowly fragments due to caste etc which instead of gradually fading out is now gaining prominence thanks to VP Singh/Arjun Singh.
If you look at history, India has always been easy to fragment which is why so many invasions were successful. Hopefully some politicians will realize this and work on these things in less divisive manner.

I agree. We are being made more aware of our caste differences now than ever before. Just to satisfy the lust for power of a few handful of people (our anti-national politicians). The problem is that there is no one among this class who is genuinely interested in India and its progress, its identity.
they don't mind what the hell happens to the country so long as their coffers are filled and they get the kursi. They are so short sighted that they do not see that their future generations also have to live in the same country and any decision they take now will affect their kids/grand children as well.
Where will they escape to if there's any turmoil/trouble in the country? to what extent can their ill-gotten wealth help them?

Reservation et al
by rohit on Apr 15, 2008 12:39 AM  Permalink

All that reservations will do is change the caste composition of the top 5% population. The rest of the 95% will remain as deprived as ever. This is the one fact that politicians want to hide. Why don't they talk about education for all and employment for all? Why is it so difficult to at least get this on their agenda and their manifestos?
