wasteful expenses
by vikramsinha Sinha on Apr 11, 2008 03:24 PM  Permalink

IF the goverment can stop exports of food grains, fruits and vegetables, the prices can come down. .

Inida is self sufficient, or is the government involved in the price hike befroe the elections and later reduce to give the votes. The congress party is very well known for it.

The whole sale traders are also part of it, they stock, hike the price to make a better margin.

Tushar Sharma`s suggestion has merit. The MPs/MLAs,the ministers, the speakers etc. cost this country far too much compared to what they actually do for helping it. They only bring about uncertainty in Govt.formation because of horse-trading, they are self-serving, they squeeze all the pleasures, luxuries and comforts which are denied to common man, they regularly indulge in all sorts of corruption, crimes, immorality, stabbing in the back, helping goonda elements and criminals, and every single one of them end up as millionaires/billionaires during their terms of office and afterwards. Let us choose and support a dictator/a military General/a good, respected family/a foreign ruler like the British etc. and make them rule us for 10 ot 15 years with an iron hand, let the ruler have all things he wants so that he is absolutely content and will thereafter serve this country faithfully, impartially, absolutely independently and ruthlessly when it comes to corruption etc. Let the ruler scrap all this big talk of development, progress, 21st century, globalization, man-on-the-moon etc. Let him use all the tax revenue for stabilizing this country - give food, shelter, clothing, water, electricity, medical facilities - all the present levels of R&D ... no more big talk of our India being the World Power, 21ar Century for India, Conquer the world with Yoga/Ayurveda etc. Just freeze that smart talk and help all live. Return to this talk and democracy etc. after 10/15 years. Be happy !!

You are right Mr.daniel. MPs as well as MLAs are concerned about the salary. Rather they earn in many ways. So even if you reduce their salaries they are not going to suffer as they don't depend up on the salary alone.

PRICE RISE
by RAJEEV GUPTA on Apr 11, 2008 03:05 PM  Permalink

Rising prices can not be controlled till there is substantial reduction in the wasteful Govt.Expenditure because the Govt."greedily" imposing all types of new and illogicat taxes like FBT,BCTT,Service Tax etc.to an extent that it amounts to almost not double but triple taxation of the same income .

Saving potential
by Ravi on Apr 11, 2008 02:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Having analysed my expenses for last 3 years this is my spending pattern:

36% - Parents and kids
32% - Monthly expences - rent, elec, water, maid, cable, LPG, etc.
7% - Food
5% - Health
5% - Telephone
4% - Non food consumption items, eg. Toiletries, detergent, repairs
4% - Transport (Petrol and service)
4% - Entertainment - Movies, Dinning out, magazines
3% - Exception expenses, cloth, appliances, travel

Looking at the above I see that the first two categories constitute 68% of my expense and there is nothing I can do to reduce it.

Possible areas for reduction are:

Telephone can be cut by 60% - 70%.
Entertainment can be cut by 10 - 25%

No scope for reducing the other expenses. But reengineering our life can help, like - relocate near office, Shift office or school so that both can be close to house, Stay together with parents and children, Radically change children's mindset early so that we do not incur costly higher education expenses later,...

But a smarter way is to find and increase our income. Like - See if we have invested properly, reduce idle money in SB account -shift them to FD/Equity etc, Look for second source of income - side business, tutions, Wife/Parents/Children also work - partime to generate income, Invest in yourself to increase future income - specilize, do post graduation, MBA, Sell off assets which are not needed - Sell off the unused furniture, antique utensils.

Any other way...?

you can still work on that 32%, ask the maid to leave and do the job yourself, cut on electricity, go on a power saving mode,

Sell off the family silver/gold - Some of my relatives have more than 70% savings in this category. Ideally we should not keep more than 20% in this asset class. We should make our money work for itself, It should keep growing if not for anything else - just to beat the inflation.
