Congress hails OBC order as ''landmark judgement''
by siva sankar on Apr 10, 2008 02:51 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The Congress today hailed as a "landmark judgement" the Supreme Court's clearance to 27 per cent quota for the OBCs in institutions of higher education and noted that the protests and "motivated allegations" on the issue of reservation have now been silenced.

"It's a landmark judgment, very significant as it upholds the most remarkable, laudable initiative of the Government, of the Congress party," AICC spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said.

"It has been upheld by the court. There was a whole cacophony of protests. There were all kinds of motivated allegations made and that has now been silenced," he said.

Singhvi said the UPA Government's decision to give reservation to OBCs was based on the idea that there should be co-ownership of the elements of democracy by the backward classes and a crucial element in this was co-ownership of educational facilities.

"I think that basic point has to be understood and appreciated," he said.

Please do not mistake me. Already OBCs are co owners of democracy in terms of MLAs, MPs and rich businessmen. Most of the rich guys in TN are powerful OBC lobbies. I support this for poor OBCs but when creamy layer came into picture why can't the entire stuff be done on economic lines for all?

Who told you? True that there are elite brahmins like TVS group etc. but most of them are pujaris and live on very minimal subsity from Govt. If you imagine, they get only 500 - 1000 rs per month for their services in temples.
One way, what u have said is right. Brahmins have become rich only by migration to other countries and by getting jobs in private sectors where there is no reservation. But, is that their fault?

Brahmins getting into IITs, IIMs are not because they are of brahmin caste. They have also written entrance exams and cleared them on MERIT. Even in TN Govt colleges, the top 20 students, if you count them, you can see 5 - 6 brahmins who fought and came in without reservation.

Reservation should be based on economic terms. I am glad that SC had addressed creamy layer for the first time which DMK, LJP, DK won't agree for obvious reasons. However, corruption will creep in this and people will see bogus OBC certicates.

True, Even there are dumb guys in Brahmins but how come those dumb guys enter IITs as alleged by entrance exams and without any reservation for them? This means that only intelligent guys of their lot enter the institution. Is passing and getting in by entrance exam and by merit alone CUNNING?

No surprise?!

Lest we forget, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is a Dalit!

I think we should take Reservations to its logical conclusion now -- merit-stream Doctors should refuse to treat patients from castes that have reservations. Then, and only then, will people become accountable for their actions.

Mahatma Gandhi practised before he preached, hence he became a Mahatma. What I would like to know is whether these Supreme Court judges or the politicians will practise what they preach, by going to a doctor who has graduated in the reservation quota, when their life is risk?! Of course, the original sinner, V.P.Singh, conveniently flew to England for treatment when he was ill, leaving the backward caste doctors he promoted to treat their poor backward caste kin!

Do you think all those students who are studying in private medical colleges are meritorious student. Most of them got admission by paying money rather than getting good marks. remember that.

I think after few years open category would be recognised as MINORITY..If we give reservation to all, then open category would be in minority..Does it make any sense to have reservation...Its is saddest day in Indian History..After some years we will find reservation In railways, bus and also in sports also. Mr. Arjun Singh, bcoz of u this all happen
..No meaning of any reservation bcoz all intelligent student will fell behind..It should be based on equality..Its sorry day of Indian History
