"The origin of that premise was in the domination of the political and military space by Jawaharlal Nehru!". It is a well known fact that it was not Nehru but V.K. Krishna Menon who harboured such beliefs about China.
"The Marathas fought a glorious guerrilla war against the Mughal empire for 22 years and ultimately destroyed Mughal rule in India"... So, Gen. Palit was adroit in lip-service also.

My friend Nehru had a deep dislike for the Army. He had no idea about defence forces. Just before Nehru left for Sri Lanka on a visit the news paper head lines were full of the news - Nehru orders Indian Army to throw out the Chinese. The very next day history was made-China ran thru' the Indian defences like butter thru' knife. That was the knowledge about politics and defence that Nehru and Krishna Menon possessed. It is not very much better now. We need a lot of improvement still. It was definitely Nehru who believed that China would never attack India. This belief was strenghthened by the Mullick the then IB head who too had no idea of how to interpret intelligence. He only told Nehru what he liked to hear.

Nice article; especially for military buffs.

Marathas(ChhatraPati Shivaji) in south west and Mewar(Maha Rana Pratap) are the only rulers of india who have constantly fought for freedom of our land.

No. They are among few of the greats. Kittur Rani chennamma of Karnataka, Veera Pandya katta bomman of TN. Andhra had also a great king who fought the britishers. I do not remember the name. There was a prince of warangal who fought bravely against the mighty army of Muhammed-bin-tuglag.And many many more. Readers can contribute more by giving the names of heroes of their region/states
