Cure the disease not the symptoms
by Tamil natan on Apr 06, 2008 04:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We are just reading about the symptons of the disease in Sri Lanka.
The underlying issue is the Sri Lankan Tamils wants out of Sri Lanka or decent autonomy from the Sighalese.
The sighalese wants to solve this problem through war and subjugation of the tamil people, this is completely unacceptable. Killing brings more killing.
If there is peace or a political solution- the role of the LTTE will be over.
But without a solution or peace - I donot believe we can get rid of the LTTE.
The LTTE is the symptons of this problem- Not the actual problem.
The underlying problem has to be solved, then the symptons will go away.
It seems to me, India is too focus on the symptoms which is the LTTE and not the actual problem.
We need to learn what Tony Blair, former british prime minister did in Northern Ireland.
The way to a solution was not by military defeat of the IRA- the solution was to understand the underlying issue of the Catholic Irish and solve it and being seen to be solving it by the common people.
First, the british thought of defeating the IRA and labelled them as the worst terrorist the world have ever known- that failed because how do the bristish differentiate an IRA from an Irish guy - you can't.
Then Tony Blair had the courage to change the way of thinking of the british governement.
And the rest is now history.

Tamil Natan ... what you say is correct... but that wont apply for LTTE. They dont want a solution unless they are made Fascist rulers .
They feel either they or none...Murdering and controlling from forest is ok for the blood thristy Prabhakaran. His relatives are safe in india.

It applies to any Terrorist organisation or freedom fighters depending on which side of the fence you sit.
Once the british said- they will never negotiate with terrorist- but in the end it was the only pratical way forward.

cont.
Einstein once said- you cannot solve a problem by thinking with the same mindset that created the problem in the first place. The sighalese created this problem, and the seems to be trying to solve this problem with the same method/thinking that created this problem in the first place.

I strongly feel that our union govt., TN govt will have to talk to SL govt. Without the input of TN Govt there will never be peace in Lanka. Throw away the bankrupt politicians such as nedumaran, thirumavalavan, vaiko, T Rajendar (!!) veeramani & co to a corner. They will never allow for peace because LTTE is hell bent on violence and remember violence begets violence. I do not know how many places would be bombed in retalliation.

Ball is in Srilanka's court !
by AAMEC CHEMINEER on Apr 06, 2008 04:12 PM  Permalink

Now, Its time for Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse to step down from the post of president. He has not taken enough steps to protect the country citizens along with elected representatives. Its very sad that the nation had lost a well known highly powered leader on a suicide bomb blast in a public marathan rally. Its a shame on the country's security system.

Its better to start the peace talks again for the sake of public who atleast won't get affected for mean time by this ethnic political game.

agree

or they should leave sri lanka

or they should force the LTTE to
buy them an island of their own
instead of wasting money on arms.
