brahmins have always been reffered to as poor brahmons. today also they are not a very prospering community. they have always been living on alms. they have not been regular rulers. however, many otehr religions and communities have taken advantage of their poor condition and divided the society. i hope the community is not divided in the future.

All our political parties are full of goons who WERE unemployed due to the short sightedness of our politicians and today ARE unemployed and serving them!and ready to 'do and die' without asking 'WHY'. Reason - deprivity makes man selfish to the extent of self-extinction.
Democracy suits only those societies(Nations)whose stomachs are full, not countries where the vast majority is deprived of basic essentials and lives a dog's life ready to go 'Shoo'on its master's command. Our politicians too are well versed in the art of making their dog's go 'SHOO' every now and then on every pretext(Rich/Por, Male/Female, Urban/Rural, Upper caste/Lower caste, Hindu/Muslim etc...etc....). It is a FACT - the day 'WE'the people STOP fighting with each other these very politicians weill die a 'DOG's Death BUT alas we the people(Even the ones whose stomachs are full)are better trained to fight each other than (even in our remotest dream)try to help remove the Rich/Poor, Hindu/Muslim, Madrasi/Punjab......Conflicts(Bone's of confontationthrown at us by our political Masters which we sp lovingly CHEW)
It is high time that we the so called educated and well to do citizens of INDIA tried to spread some LOVE for each and all the least we can do is not to 'FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER - FOR THE BONE (OF CONTENTION)thrown by our Political Scoundrels irrespective of the PARTY or the Name of the Politician all of them thrive on our BLOOD.

the 'disgrace' u refer to happened because some people with political motives took a matter of faith to a court of law.
the same people had earlier approved the same project and the same alignment.

My dear Mr Planet the question here is very clear - A canal has to be built to cut short the journey from eastern coast of India to the western coast and vice versa. The actual debate just had to be - to dig(Dredge) the 'RAMSETU' or to dig or dredge AROUND the ram setu (Leaving the supposedly mythological/Historical/what ever you like to call it-INTACT- even if it is a coral reef it can be left intact as nature's gift BUT if it really troubles our canal too much we could have a meeting between Naturelovers and scientists to discuss )BUT how come we are Abusing GOD's, Parties, Individuals etc.. If I cannot prove the existence of RAM can any one of any other religion prove the beliefs of his or her religion? Is it necessary to throw such challenges? was it at all required to prove or disproove RAM in a court of law as the affiddavit of the ASI did? Should we fight North Indians vs South Indians? should we call GODS as drunkards or ask for the university of their education? Doing all this really proves how INSANE and MENTALLY RETARDED the people are who have done so!!

Yes but why are we fighting amongst ourselve North Indians Vs South Indians Muslims vs Hindus and BJP vs DMK and or congress etc... Let us strongly send one message 'NO BLOODY PERSON ON THIS EARTH HAS A RIGHT TO DISGRACE THE RELIGION/WAY OF LIFE OF ANY OTHER PERSON and if one does so THEN GIVE 'HIM' AND ONLY 'HIM'(or her-in case it is a female)a PROPER AND BEFITTING REPLY without pulling in or pushing out other individuals names and religions and ethnicities..etc...

Dear Abhinav i am a hindu too just like You and yes to be true i am also not happy with the way muslims in INDIA either remain silent or smile at terrorist attacks within our nation BUT how in the hell does the prophet of any religion and his lust (or not) come into a debate where it is the Ram Setu or DMK or BJP or Congress which is the cause and crux of the matter? I felt BAD when Mr Karunanidhi showed his true STATUS and called RAM a drunkard but does it mean if one fool(supposedly belonging to my own religion) hurts my sentiments i should also hurt the sentiments of 'ALL OTHER PEOPLE OF ALL RELIGIONS?'

If ISLAM is so good, ask your (most) of the Terrorists to read it. If it so so good, why it is not followed by 99% of your own people.

Is there any system whererby rediff monitors all the bullshit. This is not good as redff is indirectly dividing people by waging a war of words between the people of different religions. Rediff should stop this public opininon poll
The discussions just go to show how degradable we Indians are...We never stop to stoop to such low levels wherein we are not only abusing our religion but we are abusing our Gods as well...Not surprising that India is not at all developing...In terms of character development of people we are still a third world country...

there was no acrimony against the brahmins.
they are a caste like any other in tamilnadu today.
the dmk has not been trying to spread atheism.
these people are trying to belittle the achievements of periyar and karunanidhi by their comments.
these types of comments only serve to strengthen stereotypes.
it might not be easy for these people to accept that the brahmin community was under the spotlight.
the type of opposition that the rationalist movement encountered can be seen by the nature of these comments.

Better read Ramayana where Ram encouraged Hanuman to burn Lanka. Krishna preached to pandava to kill owns's all 100 cousine. Their war was just to take a revenge for insult of one lady. Read about system of ' SATI ' about abortions to stop girl child, about dowry deaths and read quaran to know that women have many right - Muslim women have right to property. They have a right to get KHULLA - if she does not like her husband. SHE IS not considered a PROPERTY as was done for DRAUPADI to be shared by 5 BROTHERS. EVERY BODY (including hindus) have only ONE OPTION - find out the truth (DON'T Believe in hear say)
