Why is this hysteria all over in India?
by Chandra Shekhar on Sep 29, 2007 02:01 PM  Permalink

why is Sunita William's India trip so highlighted. She is not
Indian, she can't even speak Hindi or any other Indian language and she
doesn't even mention about India while in USA. I am not sure if she came to
India even once before her time in space. After seeing herself being
highlighted in India media like a goddess, she decided to visit India to get
admired. Is this hysteria in India all because her father is an Indian who
preferred USA over his own country to live long time back?!!

Small achievement, big recognition
by Kittappa on Sep 23, 2007 09:39 AM  Permalink

unitha was a pilot of an aircraft during gulf war, she was "selected" to go to the space and she went there. Of course there must be some thing in her that made her to get selected but it is not, per se, her achievement. People should realize that there are bigger achievers Indians or otherwise who have genuinely done something which no other human being could do before. For example, take Manindra agarwal of IIT Kanpur - he solved a problem that was not solved by any human being for centureis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manindra_Agrawal
and there are several other big professors of Indians who have achieved really big results...take Vardhana of New York University, Rajeev Motwani of stanford, the list is endless....they were not "selected" to these problems, they have done it out of pure talent and sheer brilliance. How much recognition do they get in INdia? How many people even know about them? If an Indian dog is selected to go to space, I guess we will adulate that dog also and call it a role model? ( No bad meaning intended but a dog was really sent to space by russians first before sending human beings )

Stop the undue hype on swillimas and kalpanas
by Arokiaraj J on Sep 22, 2007 12:38 PM  Permalink

It is rather unfortunate that leaders and media accord undue hype to people like Kalpana and sunitha. There is no doubt that they are achivers and meretorious. But just because they have some Indian blood ,our people going ga ga amounts to massive inferiority complex. It is insult to Indian sensibilities when some one of MMs stature stating that Sunitha is a role model and inspiration to Indian women.Leaders should issue statements prepared by their secretaries after giving a thought to avoid such stereo type statements.

Government of India kills talent
by on Sep 21, 2007 10:55 PM  Permalink

PM is effectively asking the kids to leave to other countries to achieve their goals. For, India is a country that supreses talent to the maximum extent possible. Just look at the Indian professors in the american universities who have achieved hell of a lot, and compare them with the professors back in the indian universities. Government of India has utterly failed to create a good environment where most of the Indian professors in the US would love to come back and work. Especially in research, it is almost impossible to achieve anything big in India...thanks to government of India's policies.

Unbelievable! Videshi pari!!!
by Adnan Khalid on Sep 21, 2007 10:37 PM  Permalink

An indian born American astronaut made a trip to space, not quite the first Indian! There have been so many before her, Rakesh Sharma being the first one! And yet she becomes the demi god on visit to Gujurat!

Yet our media propagates people to go into a frenzy to act uneducated and totally unaware of how the world is going to mock the news of Sunita Williams being the one who went close to god!!!!
