Indo US Nuke Deal & Jyoti Basu
by Saibal Chakraborty on Sep 21, 2007 07:46 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why leaders like Jyoti Basu and Buddhadev Bhattacharya not taking it in proper forum in their party and come up with the solution. After all they are the leaders who are with people for so many days. They should ask for the explanation if any doubt from Central Govt. but should restrain other leader like Mr Karat to not to make unnecessary noise and shake people's confidence. Election is not desired in current situation.

Why is election not desired? Because the CPI and CPI-M will lose seats?

I have a question. I have been saying many messages lamenting the sad state of West Bengal and put the brunt of ridicule on CPIM. Thus Let us accept for the sake of argument that communists ruined West Bengal.
Then, please tell me the stories of other states of India, especially the BIMARU. There was not a trace of communists in there. But still poor and why????
So understand guys like Prem Mohan, it is not the communists who ruined India. There is lots and lots of reasons and not the communists. If communists are aginst development, then how China progresses faster than any other nation?

China progresses because it abandoned Communism after the death of Mao Zedong. It is a completely capitalist country now. The case of West Bengal is inexcusable. In 1950, Calcutta was the most industrialised city in Asia outside Japan. It is nowhere now. Not only did it ruin itself, it also ruined its hinterland which partly explains the condition of the Bimaru states. The other reason for the Bimaru states of course is that they never had any industrial base.

Calcutta and West Bengal should have led the industrialisation of India. Instead, they bogged it down. And if you don't believe me, can you name one country in the world that is successfully running a marxist economy. Cuba thrives on dollar/euro prostitution. North Korea is a basket case. And in Kerala, we have a remittance economy.

China is a dictatorship. Any claim of prosperity from such a regime should be taken with a pinch of salt.
What is China's human rights record.
What is their respect for IPR?
What are chinese well known for - third rate goods at throw away prices.

China could well be the USSR of the 21st century. The next few years will tell whether I am right. Until then let us keep our fingers crossed.

I think China will prove you wrong. For years, people have been predicting economic doom for China, but they have built an unbeleivable infrastructure and a skilled and hard-working workforce.

Fifty years ago, Japan was also known for third rate goods at throw away prices. China will also improve the quality of its goods over time. This is a natural process.

The USSR collapsed because its leaders did not accept that Communism was unworkable and they led their country to bankruptcy. China made a smart turn-around under Deng Xiaoping.

Human rights? That is a good question, but the USSR had a far worse human rights situation than China does now. Yet we Indians always think of the USSR as some sort or Utopia.

The Chinese ruling party is Communist only in name. They say they are running "a socialist economy with Chinese characteristics". In other words, they are running a completely free-enterprise system in which the resources of the State are being used to promote the interests of business.

There is another reason. Our Government/PSU employees draw fat salaries but are always lazy, mostly incompetent and often corrupt. The Chinese government and people do not tolerate such nonsense.

Basically China today is the equivalent of Nazi Germany.
They are allowing business to flourish.
Rapidly building up infrastructure and Armed forces.
They are a single party police state like Nazi Germany.
Minorities like Tibetans and Uighurs etc are ruthlessly suppressed like the Nazis did to minorities in their country.
The only difference is that the Nazi Regime was
a little less repressive than the Chinese regime
because it allowed religious freedom.
In China even religious freedom is strictly under the thumb of the state with Falung-Gong
members being severely suppressed.

On a last note the Chinese are going to use
the Beijing Olympics to showcase their achievements in the same manner the Nazis used
the 1936 Berlin Games.

In fact Beijing is being re-modelled by the son
of Hitler's favorite architect-> Albert Speer.

For fifty years, Jyoti Basu presided over the deindustrialisation of West Bengal -- first as leader of the opposition and then as Chief Minister. He imposed a brutal regime based on gherao, strike, michhil, gono-andolan etc. He cannot be trusted. Anything he says is suspect.
