Corruption bothering Defence?
by G Kalyan Kumar on Sep 22, 2007 08:50 AM  Permalink

It was in BJP regime that allegations of hefty commissions surfaced in the matter of purchasing coffins for brave soldiers whop fought and died in Kargil.

I believe at least 30 percent of the money earmarked for Defence gets diverted to corrupt hands through bribes, commissions etc. The result is that modernisation and preparedness of the forces in tune with the thraet scenario and sophistication of the adversaries, the capacity building and infrastructure, equipment acquisition of the forces, does no take place. Empty press conferences boasting of "We are Ready" kind of rhetoric should give way to quiet work that activates the middle order ranks towards greater mental and physical fitness should get priority.

The Indian forces should be at least 25 years ahead of others. This will check fratricide and frusration in the ranks. A growing India cannot forgive all those who had taken away its mother land and still sitting on it and smirking at us. A time will come when we have to reclaim it. For that Army has to be prepared.

When I here statements like this. Some thing else is taking place in the background

Moves by the Chinese army along the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet trijunction, culminating in a demand for removal of two Indian army bunkers near an outpost called Batang La, indicate that Beijing is pushing south for more elbow room in the area, a senior official in charge of security of the international border said in Kolkata on Wednesday. Chinese soldiers have been nudging southward to Torsa Nala beyond the international border for the past 8 to 10 years, the official said. "They have already occupied 80 sq km on the southern side of the border. We want the international boundary along Batang La, while the Chinese want it at Torsa Nala," he added. Batang La is located about 50 km southeast of Nathu La, the main border post in Sikkim. The Chinese moves assume significance, coming as they do soon after authorities in Beijing in recent months reiterated their claims to Arunachal territory and even denied visa to a member of a delegation of IAS officers as he mentioned Arunachal as his native state on the form. The Indian army finds it difficult to lodge a formal protest against the Chinese push as the area is located at the trijunction with Bhutan.

He better be telling the ground reality
by Atanu Phukan on Sep 22, 2007 12:58 AM  Permalink

I hope he is better "walking by his talk".
With what has been happening in India, intelligence failure leading to bomb blasts etc., I really hope the General really meant what he spoke.

First of all, we have to maintain the kind of relationship with our neighbours that mutally benifits us. And currently we should be taking benifits of the economic development wave asia is going through, together.

All said and done, China has recently made lots of controversial statements related to the bordering state of Arunachal Pradesh. So the Indian defense forces should better be prepared for any kind of actions that goes against our country's benifit.

Its ok, just for the sake of saying...
by Ratnesh Sahay on Sep 21, 2007 09:29 PM  Permalink

Whole of India pays great honor to the armed forces...besides most of us don't even know how it operates. They work in extreme conditions and sacrifice a great deal. Over the years there have been a lot of politics within the establishment and on many occasions the defence related spying have been discovered.
If army is really capable, on what account the chinese captured areas in the north east very recently. How did the infiltrators came in to Kargil, because most of them were sleeping. Lot of lives were lost because of stupid decision of army brass in the Kargil war. It also revealed how inequipped they were even in terms of proper gear to fight such a war.
And remember Brigadier Singh, a well decorated soldier, how he was humiliated after he reported the activities along Kargil and border areas. He was transferred, issued notice adn even threatend for disciplinary actions regarding pension and all.

One shouldn't be surprised if the quality of services has deteriorated and most of our soldiers are frustated on the salaries.

I cannot contradict the repected general, but if the Indian Army is repeatedly hoodwinked by the Pakistanis and takes a regular beating from them, then how can one even dream of fighting China?

MILITARY MIGHT WITHOUT TOUGH POLITICIANS = ZERO results.

India won in 65,71,99. POLITICIANS and Prime Minster were impotent, and India wont the war but lost the battle on the negotiating table.

NET RESULT = 1/3 Kashmir with Pakistan, 1/4th with China, 70,000 people died so far in terrorism sponsored by Pakistan. STATUS QUO.

If you are interested to lead pakistani soldiers to fight against India go, there is an election at Pakisthan . contest the election and come with the pakistani forces.Siting some where in the corner of country and criticising the Indian Army. You begger dont have any commonsence.

Hi Mohammed
How can u say "Indian Army is repeatedly hoodwinked by the Pakistanis and takes a regular beating from them"- we fought 3 wars with Pakis and beast them convincingly in all the 3 right? of course they have to suffer a lot of casuality while fighting this Shadow war with Jihadis who gets lot oy local support. It is like fighting with their both hands tied becos of this psudo "sicular" politicians. Wheneever they were given a chance to fight a real war, they beat the shit out of pakis.Don't say that during Kargil Jihadis/Pak army inflicted a huge loss to India, it is only becoa our politicians decision to not cross the LOC, so our brave soldiers had to take the difficult path knowing that their loss will be 1:10

If you think sending cannon fodder over hills of kargil and then washing hands off by saying we have nothing to do with it is greatness.. then IA can better off being without it.
Atleast IA does not abandon it's soldiers just because some General like Musharaff wanted to show how foolish is he.

Only POWER respects other POWER...remember.let us know something....
by sanjay kulkarni on Sep 21, 2007 06:58 PM  Permalink

It will be good if the army chief clarifies few points like 1)Are our solders equiped with the latest developed weopens? 2)Do our solders keep alert-watch on the borders? 3)Are our security bunkers built in such a way that it will protect our solders in bad whether? 4)Whether any satelite communication equipments are installed there, so the solders can use it for their official purpos & can communicate to their families? 5)Are the local people of border area taken into confidance sothat they will be always friednly to our solders? 6)Do we built the 'good' roads till the last checkpost? 7)Are we prepared for any worst case, do we have any alternate routes developed to provide a safe way back to our solders?.. Only uttering the words about security will gather lot of claps in meetings, but what about the reality? solder 'will try to protect' the border till the last bullet they have, but the time is bad and only bullets wont solve the issues.Only POWER understands and respects other POWER... Where are we on the front of modernization of our army? Make it very clear... I understand some points to keep as secret, but heard that china is constructing the computer network along its borders with India... where are we? Our solders must know Chinese language...must for every solder. Please convey these solders that we respect them and we care for their health...
