The leaked report led to a ruckus in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday. The Opposition, including the BJP, demanded that the ridge be spared and chief minister M. Karunanidhi hit back with accusations of a %u201Cnorth Indian%u201D and %u201Cfundamentalist%u201D plot to derail the project.
The Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project involves dredging the islets to deepen the Palk Strait and thus open a direct channel between India%u2019s west and east coasts. Currently, ships have to make a detour around Sri Lanka.
The 167-km channel, dubbed the %u201CSuez of the East%u201D, will shorten shipping routes by up to 424 nautical miles (780 km) and sailing time by 30 hours, saving fuel. - Scientist find triggers claim that islet chain was built by monkeys
M.R. VENKATESH
Chennai, May 7: Government scientists have suggested that an islet chain in the Palk Strait is man-made, triggering claims that it is the remnant of the bridge Ram%u2019s mythological monkey army built to Lanka.
The issue has raised political passions because a Rs 2,427-crore navigation project that will save the country Rs 1,000 crore a year requires the demolition of the ridge.
Adam%u2019s Bridge, a series of sand-dune islets and shallows south-east of Dhanushkodi near Rameshwaram, links India with Talaimannar off the Sri Lankan coast. It has long been held locally to be the bridge Ram built to invade Lanka and rescue Sita, and is called %u201CRamar Setu%u201D.
The Centre%u2019s department of earth sciences has given an %u201Copinion%u201D to the government that the islets are probably a result of human activity.
The department, under the ministry of science and technology, says the sand dunes have a base of coral and sandstone that seem to have been %u201Ctransported%u201D from elsewhere.
Its unpublished report, of which The Telegraph has a copy, says the naturally formed corals in Lakshadweep, the Andamans or the nearby Gulf of Mannar grow vertically from a hard-rock base. But the Adam%u2019s Bridge coral doesn%u2019t grow vertically and appears to %u201Crest%u201D loosely on the seabed.

Mr. Barun Banik,
What is your reason for calling all these creatures are myths. Please give us some reason.

please check out for www.agniministries.com.... the creator cannot be a myth
If ASI is of the opinion that Ram belongs to mythology then Bharat in whose name this country is called "Bharat Varsh" or Bharat is a myth. Then the ASI also is a myth because they are employees of the "Bharat Sarkar"
The ASI guys like true bureaucrats wanted to show their 'loyaltly' to the present rulers. Hence this affidavit. If they can do such things, then it becomes difficult to take anything they say seriously even in other matters like Indus Valley Civilization for example. They have lost their credibility. Show how utterly spineless bureaucrats can be.

Forget Gods and things that old...do you have proof your antecedents 3 generations back...so shall we say that that you are not yours fathers/grand fathers/ great grand fathers lineage......or are they also myth and you lineage of mythological character??????
Going by ASI, definition, everything including scientists, ASI officials everyone in this world will qualify as a myth, can these officials trace their lineage back accurately with proof about their existence from the creation of planet earth? No, so their evolution is a myth, if their evolution itself is a myth then they are also a myth.
1. Its doubtful whether ASI is the right body to look into this. Its more like Marine Geology, Geological survey of India stuff.
2. ASI, GSI, Marine bodies never looked into this seriously. They have produced no record so far. Without looking into the thing, how can they say, there is no scientific proof?

Scientists, can do constructive, as well as destructive work, just refer to the dirty games played by Edison to discredit Tesla. Scientists, are not super humans, they just discover what has always existed and give their interpretations, some of them are right and some of them are wrong.
And when govt says there is no scientifuc proofs for the existence. Can they produce the proof of those Research? When was that research carried out that Ram doesn't exist?

No need for science - those who believe should continue to believe. There still are groups in US who feel that evolution is bunkum and that all kids must be taught "intelligent design" theory duly supported by President Bush.
Nobody calls these people nitwits and psychotics. Its only in India that pseudo seculars have been using their knowledge of English and Vatican controlled media such as NDTV and CNN-IBN to hurt long held sacred beliefs of probably the most educated and intelligent people in the world . If Ram Sethu goes - the nation is finished. Its soul gets hurt beyond repair. We will have civil war. There will be plague and famine.

Can the ASI guy, prove the existence of his own great gradparents, if he does not even know their names, does not have any written proof about them then the ASI guy is deemed to be born of Mythological parentage.
