Problems is that the canal still won't be deep enough for really huge tankers and vessels which form a majority of the vessels [60,000 dead weight and up sizes] while the current plan only allows ships of size 30,000 to pass through. Besides the waters after digging will be untested waters and no vessel will test them at their own expense or risk. The canal will not be wide enough for free navigation and so ships will sail through slowly and burn up more fuel. So some hours saved will not be worth their while to spend on more fuel and pay taxes for going through and having to have navigators to manually guide the ship. Ships that don't use Indian ports at Kanyakumari will not need that route at all. The cost of dredging sand over and over to maintain the canal will be a whopping 100 crores a year.
Apart from the loss of ecology, coral reefs, the impact on marine life and fishing and consequent natural repurcussions if the interference with the sea creates natural disturbances or imbalances is not taken into account. The next Tsunami or earthquake in the sea may prove more fatal with it's natural barriers tampered with. Forget Ram, nature will never forgive us for this folly and we will reap the destruction of the sea's natural flow at leisure in a big way. Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts will be highly vulnerable to the next great sea disaster.
This project has been initiated purely to mint money out Rs 2,500 crores is all and that is what all this fuss is about.
let the govt and those interested in challanging te rams eistance , probe from Ayodhya-Chitrakoot-Panchavati-Bhadrachalam-Dandakaranya-Srisailam-Lepaksi and of course rameshwaram.most are outstanding examples in jungles and adivasi lands, if the congress and DMK wants be away from ram , then let he Adivasi who have preserved the culture more than the polluted urban disoriented, genetecally, defective breed suffer.Adivasis are the real and origan Indian no DMK NO Am Admi

Congress is the true communal party. BJP is the true secular party.
What is secular? It is not anti religion, but to treat and respect all religions, even atheism, and agnosticism equally. No appeasement and reservation based on religion, caste, tribe, race, belief, etc. All sections of the society get equal care and support from the government, the secular gvernment.
With that kind of secularity, than Hinduism is the single most secular entity in nature, more than other religions, even more than the agnostics and the atheists.
Then Hindus must unite, it will bring sanity and betterment to all.

Are we Sure that technology/Science have achieved everything that it wants to achieve? If Yes, why are we having a R&D centers and Technological department. Are we sure that Archaeological Departments have discovered everything? If not then we should give the benefit of doubt based on the book(Ramayan) which existed long before modern science and Archeological departments. One thing I find strange is people are talking about RAM without talking about Valmiki. Do we have any proof of Valmiki? Probably the answer is NO, but still Ramayan exist! what does this indicate? This means absence of evidence is not the evidence of existence. Govt should first tell us who was Valmiki before raising any questions on RAM.
Regarding the no scientific proofs, Can anybody give us the proof that there was a scientific study done to check the existence of RAM?

Muslims have carried out atrocities against Hindus wherever they are in majority. In Pakistan they decreased the Hindu population to less than 2% in last 60 years. They are killing Hindus in Bangladesh, Kashmir etc. Areas like Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kashmir are predominantly muslims populated. There have been reports of kidnapping Hindu girls by muslims in Bhopal. In Kashmir muslims demand to separate from India. In Hyderabad also muslims demanded to separate from India, thanks to Sardar Patel who could forcefully prevent this. I have witnessed, how after the bomb blast in a mosque in Hyderabad, muslims immediately attacked Hindu properties there. Those muslims who attacked Taslima are elected MLAs from muslims localities, so they enjoy a popular support of muslims. It means, Muslims have supported the attack. Even our so called secular leaders like Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar are silent about MIM. I have seen how the victories of Pakistani cricket team against India are celebrated as deewali in Hyderabad. Never believe their loyalty to this country.

Why is everyone talking about uniting their own religion people. Why not have everyone unite on a common ground and give and take. Although it may not always work but the society will be a better place if there is tolerance.
