Great article! General had the guts to tell what is right and what is wrong (where corrections are needed). His independent view will be well received and appreciated by people who love India

Left is wrong

The Indian leftist commies are brainless idealists..communism has been the refuge of the coward and non achiever. Any Indian policy framed should consider that the US is the worlds biggest economy and the Americans are the biggest spenders and wasteful. The bigger the slice you get of this marker the merrier..let them throw change their cars and you keep selling to them..India needs to tap into this market and improve its backward people.. Defence wise US & India are natural allies, both being kafirs and bulls eye for jihadies..the Jihadies love Hindu kafir ass the most..not so much the Christian ass, because those cowboys can give right back as good as they get..India somehow cant ! India responds with Srisanths gentle pace to Shoiab Akhters blisters..It doesnt work that way.

Among the first thing the Indian Armed forces need to do.
by Vishnu Sharma on Sep 19, 2007 12:38 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We NEED to equip all our jawans with the
PASGT Helmet also known as the "FRITZ" Helmet.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PASGT_Helmet_3.jpg

That will make them look smarter and also be
well protected.
Second we need to DEVELOP a separate branch
of the ARMED forces called Marines
who are 1 million strong in addition to regular
army units.
We need to raise an Alpine Army which is 1 million strong trained to fight in high Altitude
conditions.
We need to give all jawans Night Vision Equipment.

We need to enter into R&D with American ordinance manufactures and work on future weapons. Guns which can fire bullets at Mach 3 using electromagnetic propulsion etc.

Third we need to US American Technology to improve our NAVAL strength and Submarine ARM
Let us give our selves 500 submarines and one
more AIRCRAFT carrier.

Let us augment our "VAYUSENA" to be the "Lethal Sword in the Sky" by increasing
our fighter and bomber strength.

Its is entirely up to the INDIAN people
who will have to decide if they will continue to be STUPID and FRACTIOUS and face a RESOUNDING DEFEAT or shape up and move forward into BROAD SUNLIT UPLANDS.

First things come first.
The LEFT should be WIPED OUT COMPLETELY FROM
the INDIAN SCENE without a trace.

@ Vishnu Sharma

I do not know if you know Indian commandoes are 2nd in the world after Israel. The training in Indian Army is the best in the world. It is true we need more equipments. But Indian infantry can beat the marines anytime. Be sure about that. You call Indians stupid?? How so? You are stupid to think that engaging and opening up our national secrets would improve us. No way. Look back at the history. That will tell you the facts. Aid from US is okay, but comprehensive participation is fatal to our security. Remember it does not take much time to change the friend to enemy (remember the British?). So dont advise some crap

No Democracy will invade another democracy.
If we are invaded it will only be by Islamists or Communists.
Indian Infantry is not up to the mark with Marines technology. Those guys use GPS and satellite navigation and host of other sophisticated equipment.
I will call Indians STUPID if the LEFT again succeeds in winning seats in the INDIAN parliament.
Anyone would do so.
In no country anti-nationals are voted to parliament.
US gives comprehensive military aid to Western Europe, Australia, Singapore and Japan.
This does not mean Americans will Invade these countries.
Have faith in yourselves. There are 1 billion Indians in India.
Only STUPID Communists fear Americans.

Hi Sharma,

Your knowledge on Indian defence is indeed formidable and impressive.

I am of the opinion we need to have the strong patriotic and nationalistic BJP to come into power, who clearly understand defence matters and who will be ready to forge strong alliances with Israel and United States.

There will no Commie, congi interefernce.

What do you think about that ???

We need to form a PACT of Steel with the following countries: India, US, Israel, EU and Australia.
That will form an ARC of DEMOCRACIES.
One thing you need to understand is that just like Israel, we live in a Bad Neighborhood
We need to collaborate with Americans to hone our defensive capabilities just like the Israelis are doing.
India and Israel should compliment each other in the middle East. Especially when it comes to dealing with the notorious Iranian Regime.
People fail to understand that the main reason
Americans landed in Iraq is because Saddam was
continuously making threats towards Israel and
sponsoring Palestinian Suicide Bombers.
Now that threat has been neutralized.
If Iraq is a mess it is solely because Iraqis
are tearing at each others throats.
If it had been any other country there would have been a stable democracy by the end of the
year 2005.
Our Only hope is to FORM this PACT OF STEEL
or PACT OF DEMOCRACIES.
We have much to gain from it and very little to loose.
ONLY utter Fools will oppose this brilliant move
by India.

by Vishnu Sharma on Sep 19, 2007 02:01 AM  Permalink
Not a defense analyst but I can clearly see the gaps and know that they need to be filled up soon.

India has been working since 1985 to develop an indigenously constructed nuclear-powered submarine, one that is based on the Soviet Charlie II-class design, detailed drawings of which are said to have been obtained from the Soviet Union in 1989. The secretive Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project to provide nuclear propulsion for Indian submarines has been one of the ill-managed projects of India. The 190 MW pressurized water reactor (PWR) is reported to be fitted into the submarine's hull. The Prototype Testing Centre (PTC) at the (Indira Gandhi Centre For Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, will be used to test the submarine's turbines and propellers. A similar facility is operational at Vishakapatnam to test the main turbines and gear box. Nothing much has come out of these efforts.

The major hurdle in Indian power projection is
that our armaments technology is NOT UP TO THE MARK.
Once we acquire expertise in turning out indigenously designed Aircraft, Tanks, Ships and armaments which are on par with worlds best class. Only then will our Army, Navy and Air force acquire the PUNCH needed to Project the POWER of Bharat over our self-defined domain: The ENTIRE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT and SOUTH EAST ASIA, the ARABIAN SEA,the Bay of Bengal and 80,000 sqkm of Indian Ocean.

Such capabilities will only be forthcoming with
active collaboration with the USA and Israel.

Indo-US ties inevitable - why?
by Vinod Tuli on Sep 18, 2007 10:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Editor
Indeed a fine piece of article from a veteran General which shows helplessness in accepting the fact that it has been the political immaturity in our country as far as Defence preparedness is concerned. Many reasons for low budget for Defence and resorting to purchasing armaments by creating a phobia of imminent danger to country during Cold War days which have now taken different shapes like terrorism etc have not been touched by General Malik. Allegations of corruption like in banana republics of the world in Defence purchases were common. Fact remains that today Fauzis are denigrated in all spheres of civil life because for jawans service is too short unless they slog. No wonder applications in thousands as per press reports are pending for voluntary retirement of them and also of officers in Defence and Para Military forces. Perhaps the General would touch upon it in his next article. Inevitability of effecting and ultimate acceptance of India USA cooperation seems to be on cards after assessing the volatile political and compulsive military action beyond our Western Frontier and the latter sitting across. India needs to forge strong military ties with US, whils pursuing its own independent Foreign policy.
by Ganapati Hegde on Sep 18, 2007 10:28 PM  Permalink

India should forge strong military alliance with US and Israel, however where our polcies like Iran does not converge, we need to pursue our own national interests.

It is true, that US has followed "hug and shrug " policies in the past with few countries.

However in an everchanging geolitical scenario, there cannot be permanent enemies or friends but permnanent interests.

US should accept India as an official Nuclear weapons sate if it truly wants to win India's support and closer friensdship.

Mutual Benefit
by Raju Kumar on Sep 18, 2007 09:47 PM  Permalink

USA needs India as much as India needs USA. Each party has aprehensions over their past histories. India needs to keep a free hand in making her own policies and goals whilst keeping friendly relations with USA.

India needs strong technolgy, and American technolgy is probably the most advanced and is certainly tested. India could become an innovation partner in the relationship. A strong defence is needed to avoid a war, perceived weakness in the past has resulted in invasions. It is only in peace, that India can grow very fast. Plus, there are synergies in military technologies being transferred for civil industries.

I see mutual benefit.
