Before reaching any conclusion it is engineering sense to make a complete study.
Ancient texts have identified this structure thousands of years before being picked by a NASA satellite.
This is the starting point. It has to be studied keeping the existing natural structure, a possible man made filling in the form of stones/soil/plantation etc. and time which is a major factor.
Several islands existing all over the world which lie just submerged in the water. This is a similar group of islands. The RAMAYANA states that filling with stones, trees, soil etc was carried out. It was not really necessary to fill to the bottom of the sea as a low lying group of islands existed...it was only necessary to keep a topping which could have been eroded over the period of time by the Bay of Bengal.....
Therefore, the truth is that it is possible that a path accross the sea could have been created using the available ground/sub-sea strata.....
Instead of being mouthpiece of politicians we expect the ASI only to highlight all possibilities and scenarios....also the damage this proposed canal could cause the the environment.....
Scienfitic sense with blessings of the unknown could compelte the story....
The dirty politicians yearning to fill their pockets should be kept at bay.....
The Islamic text also states that Adam the first humanbeing crossed this bridge...therefore does this structure have to be destroyed....NO NEVER....

Ram and Ram Setu is all brahmnic blunder and historical fraud, something which 2 officers at ASI has revealed and also rewarded by suspending them. How can we have healthy research or science in India with fanatic emotions of 700 million people ruled by Cunning brahmins? In western opinion Aryan gods are total fictitious. Krishna married 16008 girls- all the country must believe this!!! I sometimes forced to accept western world saying Indians are still rope trick players, or snake charmers. The most corrupt country in the world with social, political and bureaucratic corruption. Dowry, sati, devdasi, child marriage and what not superstitions, with 95 % corrupt police and judiciary, How this country would go long way. Just by becoming land of call centres we can't really become some one worth noticed. Grow up
Can our politicians and bureaucrats in this embroglio just shut up and find a solution. Ok geological point well taken and those spelling Kerala's doom thru' Tsunamis please note it is the Sri-lanka's Jaffna extension which provides topographic protection to Kanyakumari and Kerala against Tsunamis which for this region is only threatened by seismic activity at the tectonic fault lines from Papua New Guinea thru South and Western Indonesia to the Himalayas. Kerala is safe unless ASI has decided to propose moving Sri-Lanka south into the Indian Ocean! BUT...instead of pussyfooting the issue much to the disgust of the common man, ASI should please note that playing the game along with the stupid politicians endangering the common man thru' agitations, counter agitations, skirmishes, riots and all other negative fallouts of irresponsible political games, it would make better sense to work an alternative solution avoiding the controversy. If the matter is a religious issue held sacrosanct by the majority of the country, ASI should accomodate the sensitivity of the issue. Don't propose demolition of Kaba, Vatican, Fire temples or Ram-Sethu without having a segment of the population reach out to kick your butt. Study the ecological damage to corals(if living) and other piscean, crustacean and marine microbiological organism and their impact on the flora and fauna of the region and proceed with an alternative acceptable to the majority of the nation. Are we asking too much?
Ram Sethu can obstruct any tsunami from effecting the west coast of India............

Why destroy the natural wall which protects atleast half side of the country.Other route can be cleared to shorten the sea route.Playing with natural protecters of our country border or coast will be disastrus.
The NASA picture clearly shows a beautiful structure, be it manmade or natural, between India and Srilanka. Natural formations may be there in one spot or many but this is reflected as a link - bridge - Setu between the two countries. If this formation has existed for a million years do you have to destroy it? The politicians, because of the monetary benefits that will accrue to their coffers, have decided to destroy this superb formation, and that is that.. Ram only can save this country from these pirate politicians.

Ram is like spiderman or superman, an imaginary character of brahmin script writers.
Well can some more Vanars construct few flyovers in New Delhi or Bombay. who you are fooling.. Ram never existed. there is no historical evidence as well as anitiquity and Rama's story. ASI rightly said the facts, But hindus go by emotions, But emotions cannot change the scientific work. you need proof man , not the fake stories written by brahmins in last 2000 years.
No matter whether we call it a "Ramsethu" or "Adam's bridge." For a moment, let's forget Ram and Ramayan, and looka at the current scenario. It might not be a man-made (or God-made, for that matter) structure, but it has some rare features, that is associated with its location. It should be our concern to protect the mineral wealth of this location, as well as the quatic life associated with it. For a better-side of both, I'd rather suggest, we undertake an extreme engineering task (only if it's that unavaoidable) and create a canal (like the Suez and Panama canals), keeping in mind that the bio-diversity of the region is not disturbed.
