Hindu Newspaper and Vikatan Group of News magazines are well known to be DMK supporters.
Hindu Newspaper had 1000s of articles criticising the Narmada dam project ( a necessary useful project) , but it went dead silent when it came to Sethu . Why?
PS - Hindu Newspaper Family is related to DMK family through a marriage. Not many know that...
I would like to know are the governing bodies in India are Indians. They should be shameful to be called as Indians. Instead of they thinking of India one foreign lady who is leading the Congress should tell them to %u201Cwithdraws affidavits in SC on Ram Sethu%u201D By this all be aware, so called your political leader are corrupted. Now it is the time to object to the entire incidence which is affecting Indian culture. All the people in the Indian continent should be unit and check these political leaders.
People outside TN, that is 95% of Indians dont know what happens in TamilNadu. The present State Government has a well known policy to neglect the districts, espically the Southern districts. All investment and development happens only in Chennai and around it. Southern TN people always reject the DMK in elections. So in order to fool them, the Sethu project is promoted - it is promoted as a scheme to make Tuticorin the next singapore.
Better that people outside TN realise it first. A small canal cannot do any big change, because Indian Shipping industry is a small kid and insignificantly small in world.
What we need is not Sethu Canal, but a canal to link all Indian Rivers

A bit of Political History. Southern TN was always strongly against DMK (historically) in past. Even in 1967 and 1971, Southern Districts used to support Congress. By 1977, they moved to AIADMK and MGR. Only in 1996, DMK managed to win support, and they consolidated it in 2004 Lok Sabha elections. That was when this Sethu Scheme was designed, and propaganda went that if Sethu Canal comes, Tuticorin and Southern Districts will become next Singapore/Malaysia.
Problem is that despite high education , literacy and intelligence, some Tamils fall easy prey to political scamsters and believe in some fantasies (but think that they are rationalists) . Whether Sethu Canal is right or wrong is one thing. But the real thing is Sethu Canal will not help the southern districts in any significant way.
The Whole Sethu Canal Project is a scheme to deceive Southern TamilNadu of any investment. Most Non Tamilians here seem to be ignorant of the local politics of TN , which is what is playing the whole issue. The Present TN Govt believes in investing only in and around Chennai and totally neglecting other districts. It is a well known fact that DMK has never any interest in Southern Part of the state. The Sethu canal is a cheap scheme meant to cheat some to think that Tuticorin ( a port town in Southern TN) will become next Singapore due to Canal . They dont realise that Sethu Canal is not a Suez canal or a Panama canal and the benefits are heavily overstated. Shipping traffic between Eastern Sea Ports of India and Arabian Sea is very small.

True, MGR Fan. You are one of the sane persons in this forum with sane reasons for opposing the project. Apart from religious issue, this factor of environmental degradation and consequent loss of livelihood to the fisherfolk of the area have not at all been raised by anyone here. MK wants it because he wants to showcase it as his achievement and also to hit at the Hindu beliefs, his favourite pasttime.

kskumar, one thing i really cant understand is - why is some tamils , who are otherwise intelligent, believe in some scam schemes and fantasise on that?
Just take a Nice map of say Asia or world . Look at Suez Canal, Singapore, Panama Canal and then look at Sethu. Sethu is a waste project. It wont add any significant value. The distance reduction talked about is - 1) Very very less 2) It will help a few ships moving from Chennai to say Saudi Arabia. But nowadays, Chennai to Arabia , shipment happens mostly by train to western ports and then sea.
I am not against Sethu project (provided it is through alternative alignment) but i find it is a big scam by a party that never cared for people in Southern Districts of TN.

...and also it will destroy whatever beauty and purity of water in that part of the sea between India and Sri Lanka. And it is not like one has to go around Aftrica instead of Suvez canal, its just around Sri Lanka, a tiny as compared to Africa. It makes no sense what-so-ever in wasting money (that Indian government may not have to begin with!) on such projects.
Archeological Survey of India did a great job. They couldn%u2019t find any proof. This is 21st century. Don%u2019t go by what the religious people say men. Think twice.

Yeah just like you found proof for the noah ark as mentioned in those stories and for the saying that the world was created in 7 days. I suggest before u think about other religions better do a logical thinking of the stories you guys have.

Yeah think twice if involves other religions. But when it comes to the Hindus, do your duty without any fear. After all, there are thousands of self-styled ' intellectuals ' lurking in the Press and Internet to hail the great job done and to decry the ' saffron forces '.

Hi Srinivas.Hatsoff! dude .you have hit the nail on its head.had it been a minority case these guys would definitely made a big issue to increase thier channels popularity and TRP ratings.Just Imagine if anyone talks in similar tone that islam is non -existant or such things there would have been extereme pandemonium but hindus are meek and gentle .

If peel is so bad, why did God give it in the first place? Tommorrow you will tell us to get our heads removed.
Foreskin is needed to feel sexual stimulation. if you remove it, that area becomes insenstive. Then you are forced to have four wives to satisfy yourself. With one, you just don't feel anything.

lord Ram was the most secular peoples king.he felt for the people. the most human adminestrator/non castist/he also had respect for his enemy, his ideals are unmatched. Todays secular are only singular
