In 1788, Joseph Parks, a Botanical explorer from Australia marks the structure as Rama's Bridge. But the same was marked as Adam's Bridge in the 1804 Survey of India map. There exists thousands of copper, gold and silver coins with the word Sethu on them that have been recovered in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. They were issued roughly between twelfth to fifteenth century.
"The king Krishnadevaraya's epigraph mentions that his territory extended from Sethu to Vijayanagaram."
Here is the Evidence from the Central Government itself. The Survey of India was first set up in 1767 and the logo run as "From Sethu (not kumari as today) to Himalayas." So, Sethu was looked upon as a boundary of India even then.
So historically once lot of things happened with ram-sethu bridge which also confirms that such a structure fully existed. It is a world heritage being oldest man made bridge and should be preserved. Moreover, preserving and having comprehensive researches over it could open up new evidence to the world.
There is no law against blashphemy in our country. Even most advanced countries like USA has a law. If it is needed for economic reasons to make the sea deep at Setubandha, the Government should do it. But to question the very existance of Lord Rama, by our own Government makes Hinduism a laughing stalk in the whole world. What is that religion, whose elected representatives themselves consider it as folklore or myth? Already hinduism is looked down upon as a culture of idol worship. Now if our own Government swears in its apex court through an affidavit that our God is nothing but a mythical figure then whole world will call us Pagan on our face. My opinion is that if you need to reconstruct something at the setubandha, go ahead but please dont hurt our feelings. Is this because our country has a sikh prime minister and an italian leader of the ruling party?

can Ram save this country when he coudn't save his own wife, he needed monkey's help. So why use Ram, we can also take monkeys help.
After having studied the impact of the Sethusamudram project, the environmental damage it is likely to cause and the financial unviability, I feel the project should have been thrown away. One should while considering the impact of this project, not forget that we are unnecessarily displeasing a friendly neighbour(Sri lanka) but are making ourselves vulnerable to terrorist attacks on the vessels by LTTE(which controls most of Jaffna which is close to the channel under construction).Though we are not at loggerheads with each other now, we never know. If we displease them in any manner, mindless brutals that they are, they can blow over the tankers or ships passing through the channel causing immense ecological disasters. Then the marine life, the coral reefs , the ecological imbalances caused due to ocean currents and what not. To top it all, the government in the process of digging this channel want to destroy Ram sethu or Adam%u2019s bridge, which is mythologically thought to have been built by Lord Rama. There are reports that destruction of the Ram sethu might even cause damage to the famous Rameshwaram temple located on the Rameshwaram island. And when VHP and other hindu outfits express their concern and stage protests, the mindless government files an affidavit in the supreme court saying that Lord Ram and Ramayana are all fictitious .Is this not amounting to blasphemy and amounting to playing with the religious sentiments of hindus.May be this is not our government. It is pro

hello selva kumar, what made you believe I am north indian. Moreover,BJP did not start this.Get your facts right. They only allocated money for a feasibility study under the insistence of your great chief minister karunanidhi.Any way I am not talking on behalf of BJP.I dont share the same fanaticism as some of the north indians. But why should any government hurt the religious sentiments particularly of the majority community. Also you said LTTE are fighting for Tamils in Jaffna. But everyone knows their culture. How blood thirsty they are and how much they care for life. You seem to be a hard core tamilian , like that vaiko who supported LTTE.Though they dont have a direct war with India, inspite of killing the Indian Prime minister(may be because of the IPKF action),they are the most bloodiest organisations in the world.Suicide bombers, killing innocent civilians, and what not.You may be a tamilian. So be proud of the great saints or the intellectuals like Radhakrishnan,Abdul Kalam, T.N.Seshan, and many others. But are you not ashamed of supporting the LTTE.
