curse of the people who have lost their lands to flyovers
by on Sep 09, 2007 11:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its a curse of the people who lost their valuable lands and livelyhood for constructing the flyovers and who were paid peanuts in returns.
Hight time migration to hyderabad is stopped and instead other towns and cities in A.P are devoloped.
infrastructure in Hyderabad just cannot take the heavy influx of migrants

Slow and low quality work
by Gaurav Chopra on Sep 09, 2007 11:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I stayed in hyderabad for one year and often passed this place...this flyover's construction has been going on since the time immemorial......and there is always a traffic jam at this place because of its construction. Given that Panjagutta is such a busy place...its construction should have been over long ago...i guess this tragedy was waitin to happen...this calls for severe introspection...but i guess nobody has time and will-power to do it and punish the culprits.

Slow work is traditionally associated with better quality of work. How have you inferred low from slow....before the collapse?

do not blame system. Everyone is the part of system. killing one w'd not be the end of the sins...think with a cool mind, will you not agree! the system is always fine, it depends on the people who are part of it. How they are making it appear.

Go and see our neighbour Pakistan....Military has ruled there for 37 years...see other countries under military rule..they are in peril..you might reconsider your view. It's not democracy but lack of its implementation and decrease in morla valus in society combined with 'chalta hai' culture which is responsible for this situation..but sure we should consider hanging all the currupt people involved

Where is the water, that gets stored and breaks when all hell breaks loose? There isn't much water, but there was not much space either on the panjagutta road, poorly conceptualised and executed.

One More From Me
by Raja Subramanian on Sep 09, 2007 11:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Only a moronic organization like HUDA could plan such disasters. In Hyderbad there is a saying called "thook polish" (where one polishes his shoes using spittle), and all the bridges which were planned or constructed there were nothing but thook polish.

(01) I hate saying this - the archaic Begumpet flyover could be the next one. The structure is made of concrete, but if you stood on the bridge at any given time, it off late swings like a suspension bridge. I'm in the construction industry where it is common knowledge that concrete cannot handle much tensile stresses. This will result in a sudden disaster.

(02) All the new flyovers that are being built are of extremely poor quality in construction, and no surprises if this happens elsewhere.

(03) Not even one of the new flyovers is built straight. Good examples are the Sanathnagar and Moula Ali flyover. The roads change shape frequently (the cracks change so often), and the only thing they do to maintain is patch it up with tar when what needs to be examined is the structure itself.

Finally, not one of the bridges being built in Hyderabad take into consideration future volume of traffic - it looks like they won't even withstand extra traffic that builds up over one year. The proof lies in the fact that traffic is always stalled on flyovers - whereas flyovers were designed to ease traffic! This chalta hai attitude is a sureshot recipe for future disasters. The guilty and the corrupt should be severely taken to tas

I pray that you are wrong but afraid you are true! I travelled over the Begumpet flyover two weeks ago and was horrified at the vibrations it produce even with no heavy vehicle on it. I don't know if it is normal and a way of releasing the absorbent energy. I was horrified at the neglect of the administration on that flyover! For extension purpose they removed the railing and put up some tinsheets as boundary markings when the part of the flyover was exactly above the railway tracks! If an unattentive driver of the vehicle hits the tinwork the vehicle will exactly fall on the railway tracks and even worse before an approaching train. I live in Bombay and I have seen repair works on the flyovers but never ever such as this!

More importantly, I can't understand how the traffic was eased with the construction of the flyovers? If one notices, it just replaced the existing road space below it while the road below it is supported by pillars and greenery! It just elevated the below road space to above, that's all! In no other city of this size in this country do you see flyovers of this magnitude!

Worse, there are flyovers where you don't need one i.e. on the open road to sec'bad from Begumpet and none where you need some at Ameerpet jn Punjagutta Jn, Lakdikapul Jn.

I fail to understand who the town planners were! Another astonishing and brazen act is the approach road to the CM's new house is a special entry only for himself. Only he is allowed to take a right turn!

There is not much to say except that the congress party is now busy with the murder that the congress party president's son committed today. There is no one from congress who cares for this except the PM. Read the news carefully. The truth is there.

Speed of construction By GAMMON is responsible
by bhatt kumar on Sep 09, 2007 11:40 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This is totally a mismanaged project by the contractors.
The conventional method of construction the bridge is

Foundations and pillars are constructed before and cured for months. Only after curing is confirmed then the girders are loaded on to the pillars but in this case girders and pliers are loaded before pillars are cured.
Also the loose soil of hyderabad demands foundations to be wide and deep.

Now because of the rain the pillars are tilted to a side and the whole girder and pliers fell apart causing more damage.
Has it been the girders and plies are loaded after curing. we could have avoided this mishap
