Only 3 yrs sentence for mowing down 7 innocent people. There will be an appeal citing reason that 7 people were ordinary, cheap, overburdened, undeserved, not VIPs, etc. SC will acquit the culprit. The culprit will agin do the same crime. This is the curse of our nation that our legal system is very much inclined to most influenced people.

Saint, your statement 'the culprit will again do the same crime' is hypothetic. In fact the chances are much less for him to repeat such a crime. He may not even drink again. If you remove this line from your statement, then your message is really valid.

I agree with u. This sentence is too lenient. he should have been given atleast life sentence. They could have done better by telling he was drunk and only imposed a fine.
serve the bugger right...these guys think that they are above the law.Alister Pereira should also be asked to compensate the families handsomely. This is the only way people will realise that no one is above the law.

Guys, have you ever tried to put yourself in the shoes of drivers ever...I have...Believe me its a nightmare...HOW ON EARTH can you expect people to be sleeping on pavement or roads especially when the street lights are not working...Yes I agree he deserves punishment for drunk driving....But that's it. HE IS NOT A KILLER

Pavement is not meant for driving. Though pavement is also not meant for sleeping, All Indians know that people use pavement at night to sleep.
As for this case goes, it was clear case of drunken driving and negligent driving. Three years is less but unfortunately law allows only that much. As per law, the convict cannot get more punishment than this.
However considering that we have opened the flood gates of drinking in our culture, there should be more strignent rules required to curb the menace. They need to increase the fines and punishment for drunken driving. Probably 3 years imprisonment for every human lives caused due to drunken driving and it is responsbile of the driver to prove that he is innocent to give him the benefit of doubt in case of vehicle failure. Though we cannot equate value of a human life with any sort of punishments. At least there would be strong deterrent for bloody boozers for not mixing alcohol with driving.

What a logic man, so the blame is on street lights are not working and people sleeping in the pavements. Forget about sleeping, this could have even happened if people are walking on the pavements, because the driver is drunk and over speeding. Think if this would have heppened with your brother, sister, friend or some relatives, I am sure that this logic will be proved wrong to you
