Nuclear Deal
by Bankim Mazumdar on Sep 01, 2007 05:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Almost 70% of Members of Parliament oppose the 123 agreement. In Indian Democracy, Parliament is supposed to be the SUPREME as it reflects the will of the PEOPLE. By implication, majority of India opposes the 123 agreement. But, MMS is more worried for his name to be enshrined in Historey rather than weighing the pros & cons of the deal with the US.

US policy is always guided by its economic interest. There is no love-lust between US and India per-se. India will be trapped if she joins US block.

Communists are the worst type of political creatures and the Cong. are stark opportunists. The Combo will prove deadly for future of India.

123 deal is a booby-trap. India must not sign it.

As to the energy security, has any body evaluated the economics? Perhaps no.

What trap you mean Sir? India is still a kid as it was during 1947? Now India is 60 years young and she is capable to address any "TRAP".

I don't doubt the capability of India to destroy the US trap as it comes. But, why get to the mud and then wash the dirt?

But, the issue is that does 123 in any way would help India? And can't India do without it? Our scientists and technologists are capable of meeting the future energy needs.

So, don't panic! It is all political gamesmanship by Congress for vote bank.

It's up to us if we shud depend only on this energy or we shud develop and harness other form of energy. But, until then it is not possible for us to completely ignore the nuclear energy specially with our growing demands

If left is not cunnung and selfish and opines truely that 70% of parliament mebers oppose the Nuke Deal, why hesitate to force the UPA to table a discussion and force for division if need be rather than forcing cong to form a mechanism where only left and cong are parties and rest of parliament is irrelavent (Constitutionally, Ruling/elected Govt need not take approval of parliament. This constitutional backing is right from legal/rule point. But morally it speaks of immorality of left to say that 70% of Parliament opposes nuke deal and hence nuke deal should not go through).
Both cong and left are playing cruel jokes at people. Let people understand this. Every one knows at the end of the day nuke deal will safely sail through. I some times think that news media pays these parties to play dramas for selling in their respective media. Otherwise the media in all these kinds of news shal by default say that such and such thing will go thrugh. B8ut we are palying a commentry for a drama just disclaimers. GS

Majority is not always right. We need to look at the facts and the reasonings especially when there are politicans involved.

Personally I am a bit biased towards our PM since he is not a politician.
