why should we cosy upto Russia?
by SI on Nov 01, 2007 09:49 AM  Permalink

True, Russia has been helpful to us in the past. In return, we supported them with forming NAM.China is in no way interested in India's rise, no matter how many columns Bhadrakumar writes to convince us otherwise. Russia and China is afraid of India becoming US ally, and the frustration manifests.
In this time US seems to be more useful to India, and we should aggressively pursue alignment with Japan and Australia. It is not a coincidence that these civilised and developed countries coming together. It will be for India's advantage to ally with them.
And we should definitely do whatever it takes to protect us from Chinese arms, be it missile shielf or whatever. ""Many experts suggest that such a missile defence system, being an element of the American global missile shield, could as well be used against Russian and Chinese strategic arms". "It is funny that Russians fumes when countries try to protect themselves from their arms!

elementary, dear bhadrakumar ji

the author mr. bhadrakumar travels the length and breadth of the planet to find a solution but misses the no. 1 cause which is right in nai dille. it is quite simple that india's foreign policy is in doghouse. india does not have an elected prime minister. ok, i will repeat. india does not have an elected prime minister. the goi is held at ransom, for lack of better word, by an italian lady who is clearly ineligible to lead as pm. in any other democracy this lady would have been kicked out, but in india she runs off to foreign countries riding roughshod over mea and the pm. she is not accountable and yet takes over the conduct business. heck you can't run a small shop like that. the answer is very simple: let's have our democracy and govt back from the italian.

Kissinger on bussiness
by Anil Bharali on Nov 01, 2007 09:04 AM  Permalink

If Muasharaf can speak against American0n useless sanction policy and in favour of iran pakistan india aspipeline deal, being a supported ally of USA.,WHY India is hasitating to speakout clearly aginst that? We Should not forget that it was mainly USA which put sanction against India on Nuclear Test now they are mad to get Inadia as their strategic ally.I never believe USA intention is honest. It may be that they want to take advantage of Manmohan Singh"s bureaucratic obsession for development for their interest.Kissinger is on marketing on ndeal for american interest to give only for extra 6000Mw electricity.India should be firm on independant foreign policy that is the only solution.

BJP should support UPA on Indo-US nuke deal- Yes, at least the parties must pretend that politically they are united and India is not yet divided till it actually disintegrates to become a part of union of countries within the %u2018Confederation of Consented Countries%u2019 (COCC).

I am against BJP and Nuclear deal
by on Nov 01, 2007 06:00 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Now the big question is - is BJP correct? On one hand British/USA are promoting BJP (demolition of Babri Masjid and broadcasting it on British Broadcasting Corporation) - and BJP leaders married 'Mother India' with 'Father Pakistan'(father of Muslims of World) - and Pakistan mobilising Muslims of world against India for Jihad in Kashmir - what approach should Indian Govt take - China is becoming strong (daily incurrsions into Indian territory ) - should Govt of India give up research going in Nuclear technology and scumb to Pakistan /China/USA pressure of Nuclear attack next time?

Indians cant rule
by lax on Nov 01, 2007 04:14 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We, Indians, cant rule ourselves properly.. then how can we rule the world or be a superpower.
We become feeble & helpless, when faced with big powers like US, Russia.
I feel that, our non-aligned status should be maintained. There is no way, that we should become an american-stooge.
We should live with pride & be willing to die for it.
Once we become an 'yes-sir' to the americans, then we can never come off it. Then they will issue orders, and we will have to follow.. just like britain, australia now.

if you take Germany & France they both where yes-sir type only but they follow their own independent foreigh policy(except with reference to SU or Russia), we too can do the same if only we have guts but we don't have that, that is our problem.

Not many people know that Kissinger had changed his name to Jones some forty years ago, and then to Psmith, Brown, Goldstein, and several other names in rapid succession within a few months. He changed it back to Kissinger when people in America started singing "I Wonder Who Is Kissing Her Now".
