How true, Uddhav Raj. All the original leaders of the communists like Dange and namboodripad were part of the original Congress party before Independence. We will get an Indo-World nuclear deal, as you call it, only after we finish a safeguards pact with IAEA. The Indo-World deal is in reality a India-NSG deal. Afterwards we will have to sign separate deals with Russia and france, among others, before they can supply uranium to india. And that will happen, as all countries have said in public, only after the Indo-US deal is approved. In a sense, the world, through the NSG, has delegated it to the Americans to bring India into the fold. And stupid as we are, will are allowing some commie-licking shits like Karat with less than 6% of the national vote to dictate terms to the world.

If USA itself has stopped investing in N-power after 20years back after long island disaster, neither is UK, Canada or Russia then may I know what gives you the impression that N-energy is safe and viable?
God forbid if Chernobyl or Long Island disasters could happen in USSR and USA then you think we are going to be lucky? In any case cost/unit of N-power is much higher will our consumers pay? Already 40% power is stolen- who will foot the bill tax payers?

I agree with you that safety issues will have to be considered carefully. Nevertheless, it is only the US where nuke power development has stagnated. Britain gets 20% of its power from nuclear power, and France 80%. Russia is building new generation neutron reactors, and is among the world leaders in the field and is willing to export them to India.
I don't decide policy; but policymakers and nuclear scientists in india, irrespective of which party is in national government, have a blueprint for nuclear power, which envisages Thorium based reactors in about 30-40 years time. But those reactors have not yet been built and comprehensively tested. To graduate from our current nuclear phase to throium power, there is an intermediate stage where will have no option but to use a mix of thorium an uranium. We do not have enough reserves of uranium in our country to meet this national blueprint. hence the call by scientists to import uranium to meet our requirements during this phase. And hence the need for a nuclear deal.
The last spieces to talk about trustworthiness should be americans. Please EXCUSE - we have seen how much you can be trusted - even Saddam and Taliban know what is outcome of TRUST. Find out how much is Kissinger been paid by US Businessmen for getting them more business ! Also spare BJP they cant do much here - talks should be held in Italy rather.
