Nuclear Deal with U.S.
by HRS Mani Mani on Oct 26, 2007 11:22 AM  Permalink

Congress is totally dependent on Left for survival. Such being the case, on an issue of high national interest, in each all political parties have a stake, PM should have consulted the matter threadbare with Left before making an agreement with U.S. Cabinet decision is not an excuse. You have no respresentative in the Cabinet from Left. PM has to face the music. He is not a statesman. He is only a bureacrat.

Its not just PM MMS
by on Oct 26, 2007 10:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Anil,
Good analysis by you, I am with you that it is a shame on the country that because of some politicians we might loose an awesome deal. It would not be wrong to say that MMS is not that assertive and powerful in coalation. I wish (and I know it would just be a wish) that BJP and Congress first join hands (They have more similarities than differences if you think about it) and clean sweep these half dead defunct parties and leaders and than move towards a bi party system. I feel these 2 parties can provide long term stability to the Indian politics if they work together just for 1 term or even 2-3 years.
Ameen is the word :-)

Congress is a selfish party right from the beginning. Don't confuse Congress party after independence with Congress force before independence. Before independence it was a freedom movement. After independence it is selfish movement to perpetuate family rule. Such being the case, you cannot expect Congress to join hands with BJP. May be BJP would have sought Congress support because they have no such compulsion to promote any family. So you cannot expect anything good from Congress, which comprises petty selfish rootless politicians.

After a long time, a well argued article in a language most can understand, without dognma and prejudices! It will be a shame (a national shame if the nuclear deal is scrapped now!)

No One Is Concerned In India about Our Future
by sharad gupta on Oct 26, 2007 10:24 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All The Blame Goes To The Real Decision Makers Of This Country (PM s office). They Dont Realize That This Treaty Is More Important to us Than Behind The Curtain Hush Hush Talks With Russia. Even If Today India Chooses Its Partner In Progress (America or Russia) Clearly, Many Of The problems Can Be Solved.
This Treaty will Take Place Only If INDIA Sincerely Shakes Hands With America and No Sheepishness Plzzzzzzzzzzz.

The only problem with this deal is the attempt to prevent India from conducting further nuclear tests, by linking fuel supply to it.
I wish BJP comes to power and renegotiates the deal.
Leftists are traitors, even kinder garten students know that.

What makes you think that the Americans will be ready to re-negotiate the deal? For persuading the members of the American congress, there has to be a strong US president who is friendly to India. After the departure of Presdident Bush, in all probability, next president will be a democrat (Say Mrs.Clinton). He/she is unlikely to be favouable to India.

MP Anil Kumar needs to be more choosy in the use of words....
by on Oct 26, 2007 09:56 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

You have got to be more careful when you are criticizing one of the architects of modern Indian economy....
No matter what his shortcomings, Dr Manmohan singh due to his seniority and his impeccable achievements in public life, deserves a bit more respect than what the author has accorded him.....

The Author seems to be a servile toady of the US....also comes across as someone who has just learnt to rote one of those vocab books for CAT and wants to have a go in a public blog...all the best for CAT!! ________WEBMIRCHI.COM

Architect of modern Indian economy is all fine, but as Prime Minister, Dr MMS is only as good as his last achievement - which in this case is a sad failure.

As far as the Congress is concerned - to keep holding power, they have given up on national interest. Thats the truth, whether you want to accept it or not.

I agree what Ail kumar said. MMS was excellent only and as a servent under some command. The cief architect made success under shrewd PM - PN Narsimha Rao. As PM MMS has not done 10% of what he did in 91-95. to be noted that then also PVN was running a minority govt with Left support and he had more insiders against. BJP was much stronger than today. what he did then is past. you can't give credit life lng when the person is working for new task

123 amendment ?
by Hari Puttar on Oct 26, 2007 09:27 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Good article! but didn't US also go back on the initial nuclear deal by enacting the 123 amendment? If they can change their law mid-way India also has the right to cancel the deal.

There is no initial deal and final deal. There is only one deal which is called the 123 agreement. That was signed after the Hyde act became law. So they have not changed law midway.
