Yes, will someone explain what's the objective of the communist's objections? They will never be able to form a majority Govt. in the center. So another election and again form a coalition and their own role may be gone (hopefully!). So they don't want another election. They simply want to keep Indian people very poor which, God willing, will not happen. They do not have any new technology to offer nor their Chinese or Russian comrades going to provide one (they have none - they themselves are copy catters) so what are they drumming about? Karat and them should live the life of hermits, ride buffaloes, plough with weakly oxens, and light up their single room thatched roof abodes with castor oil lit lamps! Idiots, be constructive and help build India and make its people self support itself. What's the point in getting any political mileage by being negative and capsizing the boat that has just got a new life and a new hope - Rabi Sinha
It is a god observation from Dr. Kalam. But I dont know why he too have to stoop to the level of the Communists and fall for this line of thinking. The reason that everyone is jumping on Thorium is because our country have abundant resource of it. But we need to have proven technology to process it and viable. If so why have we not used this material so far.
Everyone knows the reason which is the technology is not ripe enough. So let us keep up with the pace with the world and move to thorium when it is feasible. In the meanwhile Uranium it is for now.
But the murderous communists all think they are nuclear scientists. May be next they will say that we have a lot of cow dungs in the country and let us make energy with the abundant cow dungs.
Dr. Kalam -> No offense. Never thought that you have to come down and talk in line with the communists.

You got him wrong brother! He is a scientist..... And scientist are always learn to find solution within the given constraint. If the constraint is that he cannot get Nuclear fuel for foreign countries, then the solution is to make the best out of what our country can provide as an alternative...... Purely a scientific approach unlike the dumb head communists who have now why and at what are they barking at.........

Back in early eighties our nuclear scintists said thorium is the answer and there is a fast breeder test reactor in Kalpakkam to prove this. What happened since then? Where our scintists are stuck? Do our scintists have a date in mind on commercializing fast breeder technology? Right now the fact is India is shutting down 5 out of 17 nuclear reactors as there is no fuel. Other 12 are running at half or lower capacity. Power cuts appear to be a way of life. Yet we do not want the fuel and technology that the world is ready to offer through this nuclear deal.
Dr.Kalam's statement makes good sense. But what is the Govt. doing ? Going ahead with a uranium deal on the one hand and doing something to deplete thorium reserves on the other.
To be more detailed, the rock formation between India and Sri Lanka (called Rama Sethu) has a lot of thorium deposits on it. If we break or dredge this formation, then those thorium deposits would get washed away from our shores and may get scatterd on the shores of other lands - even Pakistan.
Now, tell us, what makes strategic sense - the present Sethu Samudram project or the preservation of Rama Sethu ?
In my view, if the costs and benefits of nuclear power are assessed correctly, nuclear power is a most unattractive option. Instead, if we goes for the 123 agreement, we are going to be a PUPPET of USA and our hands will be tied forever for all types of developement and all the matters of developements and policies of international matters will be guided by USA. Also, the end result is HUGE PROFITS TO USA and NET LOSS TO INDIA. Indians will get ELECTRICITY AT MUCH MUCH HIGHER RATE and INDIAN PEOPLE CANNOT BEAR THE INCREASED CHARGES OF ELECTRICITY so for what and to whom, we are going after signing this deal?

You talk as if our hands are not tied already. Name one invention till now that we have done that the world is Dependant on right now. We are all just users of the new technologies and never invented anything that we are proud of.
Everything that you use today was invented by others and not by us. So who are we kidding when we say that only for the nuclear deal we will be tied.
Dont you think it is a bit hypocrite to say that. Why dont you throw away your computer, mobiles, TVs, Refrigerators, Air conditioners, cars everything and go back to things that Indians used before these were invented.
Dont fall for the cheap talks of the communists and get yourself branded the same way as them.

Decimal system and arithmetics invented by India, substantial percentage workforce in US IT and in Medical are from India

Yes Right, Keep talking about the same story that Indian invented zero and without zero there is no decimal system. We must be ashamed to tell everyone this one thing for so many years.
This really proves that we have not done anything.

People going to the US and working there does not mean that Indians invented anything. All of these guys went there only because we cannot use them properly with the stupid reservations and corruption.
So are U saying that we invented the people that go abroad and work? That is a very nice thing to be proud of..

Father of wireless technologys is JC.Bose, Now they accpeted it, JC.bose only invented plants to have life,,,,Be careful what you writing here...Dont be just makely system educated Guy...

Keep barking about the same for many more years. You proved that we have not invented anything and we just wait for the world to invent something and then just go buy it and use it.
Also why should I be careful on what I am writing? I am not writing any foul language like most of the people in the forum.
If you cannot stand up and take the fact or argue otherwise then you are the one who should get out of this forum and keep thinking about the fact that we invented zero and nothing will work without zero.

Stop bengali supporters. counted invention cant be whole reality
Dr. Kalam for such a studied view. But alas, it has fallen on deaf ears. It's your bad - luck that you have been born in such a country of fools who lack futuristic vision.
Food production must take priority over energy supply. Since biomass plants could charge premium prices for the power they produce, public subsidies may not be necessary, although as the matching of supply with demand is a public service, subsidies could be justified. I also recommend that: no new nuclear power stations should be built; existing nuclear power stations should be closed at the end of their planned lifetimes; and coal-fired power stations should be closed immediately. Market forces will close oil-fired and gas-fired power stations as fuel prices rise; public investment in oil-fired and gas-fired power stations should stop immediately.

Yeh right. Without sufficient energy what will you produce? Vegetables in your back yard? Already we see that most of the energy is being either subsidized or stolen. What are we talking about. Use what to increase the food production? How can we produce more when we dont have the required energy?
You will use buckets and go down the well and fetch water? If you can find a well that has water that is.
Dont fall for all these cheap tricks by the communists. People have seen their lies for the past 60 years and I think Indians will wake up and soon there will be an Indian Revolution where all these lazy talks and unpatriotic talks will be thrown out.

I support your view Tim, Let us accept that US controls world economy be it any consumer good, entertainment industry, software design, you name it. Concept of Gandhian self sufficiency is over. We do have potential business base and now we need to compete. Now the problem is Indian products are way below in quality and price. If Indian products are at per quality and price with any foreign product, a little advertisement, and I bet people will buy only Indian products, because they will get available services. Guess what, that aint going to happen real soon. So till that day comes please don%u2019t try to close your eyes to latest products in the market, because that is what your kids wants to use and please don%u2019t confuse them with khaadi and charka.
In a country like ours where life is cheap and good health for the poor a non-marketable commodity, safety standards are low and haphazard, and we must accept this as the status quo and talk about it, not about any ideal copybook safety which may only be reacheable in an ideal copybook welfare state.
The tailings (liquid waste) from the Jadugoda U mines are kept in 3 storage dams, called "tailing ponds", within 1.5 km of seven villages, one of which starts 40 m away, although the Atomic Energy Act lays down 5 km as the lowest permissible distance to human habitation16. For over 20 years these villagers have lived with high rates of cancer, stillbirths, and congenital defects in children. Even Jadugoda railway station has seen containers sitting on the public platform, leaking waste.
Waste disposal from nuclear reactors poses similar problems. The difficulty is that these wastes remain radioactive over years and decades and even centuries in some cases. If you think the problem is a minor one, ask yourself whether you will accept residential accommodation 40 metres from a nuclear waste dump
Another dangerous finding is that it is not only irradiated cells which are affected. Other cells are affected by their interaction with the irradiated ones leading to a genomic instability. Especially vulnerable are the progeny of the irradiated cells, possibly due to DNA strand breakage effects.
While we debate over the radiation from reactors, mines and wastes, all over the world radio-scientists are worried today even about diagnostic help from radiation, such is the threat perceived from low dose radiation.
Every step of the nuclear power cycle from mine to reactor, and thence to waste dump, deals with highly radioactive material. A little human or machine error, the like of which is remediable in, say, thermal or hydel power plants without much damage, will, in a nuclear facility, lead to dangerous leaks and spills of radioactivity.
