No, I do not think this is enough. These policemen will enjoy all sort of comfort in the jail. This is not lifer to them but a sort of oppertunity to enjoy police hospitality that is often oferred to accused polticians and police personnel in Indian jails.Hey! it will be miracle, Have we ever seen accused polticians and police personnel serving life term in jail?
Although justice had been done and the Policemen have been punished we fully support the judgement. But its an irony that only Government servants are punished whereas the Politicians go scott free. Now the judiciary is booking those people who have very little influence while it doesnt have to book these filthy politicians.I dare the judiciary to give solid sentene to the faulty Politicians who have committed serious offences
hang the govt witness who gave false witness and supported the planted gun theory and gave false testimony in not only this case but also in the jessica lal case that bullets were fired from the planted guns first.
and these are the only 2 cases that have come to light. wonder how many people he has wrongly sent to gallows .. these cases came to light as the cases were highly publicised cases with lot of public and judicial support -
his acting like catalyst must have killed many tens and hundreds of people - and all cases that he gave witness should be reviewed -

You have rightly said Mr. Final Moderator. The so called Forensic Experty, who seems to be avowedly a fraud should be tried under stringent laws and given exemplary punishment, that may even be a DEATH PENALTY.
Instead of giving life term, these criminals in the garb of Police, should have been tried in a fast track court and hanged till death a long time back. They could have not been got caught had they not killed non-muslims like in the instant fake encounter case.
Further, the family and background of the innocent people who were killed by these police criminals are so strong that they could be able to fight a long battle with the entire police machinery and also the JUDICIARY. Otherwise, they would have not won the case, even after 40 years.
The police, armed forces, etc. are killing the innocent muslims in this way and plant the arms and bombs on them and make them terrorists. But, they have not got punishment, but, rewards and awards.
We should be really thankful to ALMIGHTY GOD, who started showing this kind of criminals to the world to save the innocent humanbeings. Side by side, he is also punishing the killers of innocent people in his own way.
It has been a good verdict. Only the house of justice can protect the innocent people from such trigger-happy cops who overstep the limits. India is a republic and the constitution has given the citizens the right to life. Such verdicts are necessary to remind the cops about constitutional rights given to the people of India.
As per the reports, this is a clae case of mistaken identity.Policemen should have been penalised for planting the revolver & promoting a fake encounter .More over ACP rathi's & his team was called to participate in the encounter by other police station staff. He & his team should have been given some relaxation.

Relax. Big shots get punishments only for record . Media get some transient masala. A higher court will bail them out. And that appeal ? Law will take its own course

Mr. Promod,
It is not a case of mistaken identity. It is a greed for money and power. They might have killed so many people in this way, but, not got caught that made them bold to kill anybody at will.
It is the family and background of the innocent people who were killed by these police criminals are so strong that they could be able to fight a long battle with the entire police machinery and also the JUDICIARY. Otherwise, they would have not won the case, even after 40 years.

looks as if your are one of these khaki men, or your near one is. just think if your son/father would have been killed like this in cold blood, and you think these police men are not aware of what they are doing, if they are not, then they should be hanged to death also.

partner, accidents happen, incidents happen. your viewpoint is v v selfish and narrow. if i had a son and he wants to join the army, i will not stop him just because officers are getting killed in J&K. if the person inside the cop was the actually targeted criminal and rathi hesitated, it would be rathi in the coffin. if aunty had balls, she would be uncle. if if if...

quite right. i don't understand WHAT is wrong with some people on this forum. the court has been v harsh. s s rathi is a hero who has gunned down dreaded killers like satbir gujjar, and solved numerous imp cases like personal point murder case. wherever there was a problem, he would be deployed by DPolice. it is because of people like him that we are safe and feel free.

apurva, the CBI has come to the conclusion SS Rathi & Others did the shootout for promotion and medals, this encounter too would have passed as countless others but for the grit and determination of the victims family to erase the blot of being labelled 'terrorists' and in the end also to get some justice.
There was another suspicious case involving a top IPS cop in Gujarat, but there was no outcry because the victim was a known character. In Mumbai cops are known to settle scores for rival gangsters. One such suspended encounter cop is reported to have ammased fortune in crores. So please dont blindly glorify encounters.

but partner, the police had hard information of dangerous criminals who would have fired without hesitation. rathi's informer was present close by. he indicated to rathi confirming that the occupants of the car were the criminals. if they were criminals and rathi would have hesitated, he would be dead. what choice did rathi have? either kill, or let them go. then who will fight criminals and terrorists. medals and promotions are a by product. someone has to clean the shit in the society.

You may be right, what make police wrong is the way they tried to hide their mistake and tried to paint innocent people criminals. this is not acceptable, it would have been different if police admitted the mistake and faced the trial. when we watch the way investigations done in some western countries and cases solved by police/detectives when only forensic clues are available, we wonder can this ever happen in India? How you can feel safe when without warning some police man shoots innocent people.
SS Rathi was a trigger happy cop, involved in numerous encounters(read murders)and as the saying goes a 'perfect' murder is never executed. The accused cops were pleading as case of 'mistaken identity'but all they had to do was verify the car occupants and not fire like hell for no reason. After realising their mistake still they planted guns and fabricated the evidence, worse still the unfortunate victims were labelled as terrorists.SS Rathi and others deserve nothing less than DEATH.

such incidents erodes the already damaged confidence of public on the police department.
Police and armed forces are the two departments which should be given more power and freedom from the control of politicians. But incidents like this will spoil the image and confidence on them.
