CARROT AND STICK

THE US IS INDEED SHOWING THE NUCLEAR POWER CARROT TO INDIA, AT THE SAME TIME IT IS TRYING TO GET INDIA A BACK DOOR ENTRY TO THE NPT AS FAR AS IT CAN ... THIS IS WHY IT IS TRYING TO PUSH THIS THROUGH QUICK

we should look at it from all angles and objectively, rather than fight ourselves over commies and non-commies ... we have to get to the root of it all

Then why are the partners in the Government protesting. I agree that they are showing the carrot but what stick can we expect to see. Even enron was a US company.

Yes we need to discuss to get to the root of it all. Why is the Congress having a unilateral approach.

can anybody imagine that a country like US or china signing an international agreement created by some other country (say, india) without proper discussion and permission from their parliament? this is what happened in india, this will happen only in india and i feel it as one of the worst things happened in indian history.

History will repeat itself soon. I too am not sure why the gvernment wants to go ahead when the US are stressing to get it done quickly. it looks like something is done in a hurry. Hope it is not something irreversible. I shall never forgive myself for having voted for the Congress tilld ate.

I am with you. What pisses me is that congress is not ready for an open discussion. They are doing it all hush-hush .... and if the left really thinks that this is not in the interest of the Country, they should just pull out... Worry about smaller things later. If they pull out after operationalising the deal, they may as well keep supporting Congress later too.. The damage is already done... I am afraid we are getting dangerously close. Remember, when Karat met MMS, he was told that the deal is signed already and left was not even aware of it until that instance. Same thing could happen with the operationalisation.

MMS and Sonia have said in no unclear words that congress will go with the deal... If you want to pull out, you can... There is no going back on the deal, we will just try to convince the left...

lefties - if you want to be in the corridors of powers (mind it just the corridor), you better hang in there as long as you can. You may never get a chance like this ever to see the corridors.

we are not so capable?
by p arjun on Oct 09, 2007 12:29 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India produced a super computer in 41/2 years, developed nuclear bomb, merged as number one in software then why we are not capable of building a nuclear power plant?
India is having tons of thorium, India is having the technology to purify this thorium...
we developed the powerful technology to send our heavy payload rockets to the space eventhough those scientific institutes were black listed by the developed countries.
then why? why we are not capable of bulding a nuclear power plant?
why the political parties are not supporting the indegenious nuclear power plant?
we need peoples like Dr. Kalam in the front row of the political parties... but unfortunately....

If India has done so many things, why can't they do it in manufacturing sector, India has built super computer, but why dont they have Dell's and HP's. India has built Rockets, but why dont they send people into space as frequently as the US does. Well, you can certainly say that India can do it in the future. We can still wait for few more years to send people into space. However, we cannot wait to research on Nuclear technology as it would take years, while the need of the hour for us is to build infrastructure which includes power. Infact, power would be the major part of it. We Indians, really tend to get overawed with the opinions of the self oriented greedy politicians. People, question why US is trying to rush things to finalise the deal, but nobody questions, why China is objecting. Us, has its ambitions to nuetralise the power, while China, wants to rule the Asian region. In this battle, if we are benefitting, why not support the deal.

Dude You need to research about the problems surrounding the 'indegenious' Nuclear plants. A lot has already been said and discussed. You can find plenty of answers.
Long Story short: to convert our indegenious tech to produce economic power, it will take abt 20 yrs. The economic boom cant wait while we prepare. Oil, Gas and Coal are not reasonable alternatives.

Hope this helpful.

hi cool,
do u know the story of Param computer, we targeted it to finish by 5 years and our scientists done it by just 4 years. at that time Mr. rajiv gandhi was there to encourage them, yep the only good thing he done in his political life.
so as enticejuan said we can do it.... but somebody should be there as late rajiv gandhi.

Head I win, Tail you are defeated
by Amajit Basu on Oct 08, 2007 11:48 PM  Permalink

If Left withdraws support and there is a mid-term poll, either NDA or Congress(I) with its remaining allies will form government. Leftist parties still have not significantly proved their importance or glory in the power so that people would become inclined to vote them in number. It is highly probable that the next government will be formed excluding the Lefts. If NDA comes in power, the Lefts will lose its own role in the govt. and will bring the essentially opposite. If the Congress(I) and its remaining allies form the govt., the Lefts will simply lose its role in the government. In any case, whoever forms the government, since the Lefts will not have any say therein, the deal will be signed. So, the result of the mid-term poll will be - (i) Left loses at least its own role in the government and may bring the ideological opposite, (ii) Deal is signed. If there is a poll or a series of polls in near future, while the Lefts will lose its role, India will lose stability and some growth opportunities (although these things are meaningless for the Vidarbha farmersa and like). Maybe the deal is against the sovereignty of India, but can the Lefts really resist it? Is there a way for the Lefts? If there is any, whatever it is, it is obviously, as we have just discussed, not felling the government. Leftist supporters should convince their parties that to show their ideologial honesty, they need not weaken themselves in the Indian parliamentarian political context.

What Nuclear Plans Do Commies Have?
by san man on Oct 08, 2007 10:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Tell me, what grand nuclear plans do the illiterate commies have, that they are so jealously guarding India's nuclear program? India's nuclear program was meant to defend against China, so how come our Commies are so loyal to China? It seems to me that Commies want India's program to be in China's hands, and that is the only reason they're loudly crusading against a deal with the USA. Cmon, commies, why not confess?

How can you be so sure that the communists are wrong. It could be that they have found something in the Nuclear text that could be against our National interests. Now the secular government will go ahead and try to demonize the communists with their propoganda machine.

For sure I will never vote for CPI/CPM.
Choice is between Congress and BJP.
Congress has done enough damage to the country.
But now energy demand is in our national interest.
I can go against my wish if I need to vote for the national interest.

It does not matter whether you will vote for the Left or not. The people who have voted for the Left will. Thus there will be again a Hung Parliament. Most possibly a third front will emerge, as it was the case in 1996.

If the Govt. Goes

If the government goes because of the N-Deal,it would mean U.S is already influencing who runs the government in India. This is the first time a government will go in India for reasons which are not purely internal to the nation .Has India lost its stature as an independant nation? Can one ever imagine Bush government resigning if it fails to sign the deal with India? Is the Deal so fragile that it can go through only on 'now or never' basis?

Talking of Internal Energy Resources , if I suggest that India should drstically bring down its transmission and distribution losses to the same level as those prevailing in China and USA, would I sound like - a communist ? Or a capitalist?
