If a turk is not a muslim, he does not become a less turk. If an Arab gives up Islam, he does not become a less Arab. If a persan gives up Islam, he does not become a less persian. However for a paki, he is very much concerned Islam, because.............. if he is not a Muslim, he becomes a Indian !!!!

Ganapati,...Very very brilliant approach. Strong majority of us including Pakistanis do not know or realize it. Pakistan came in being in 1947,a part of scattered and shattered Indian sub-continent.Whatsoever it were Indians who had been given a new name Pakistan known to very few people,a stranger inside his own house.That is where frustration and problem of common Pakistani started.It was an identity crisis.They were Indians,looked like Indians and lived like Indians did,BUT DID NOT WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED WITH INDIANS.
SO,WHAT DID THEY HAVE IN HAND WHICH DID NOT IDENTIFY THEM WITH INDIANS ? ANSWER IS "MUSLIM".
In fact,it is after 9/11 when common people including educated ones in the world started knowing of existence of a state known as Pakistan.But unfortunately it is popularily known to them as terrorist state and likened to Afghanistan not India.
Even Benazir Bhutto in her book 'Daughter of the East' written in 70s/80s has mentioned of it.She has said that her classmates in US university did not know of a nation or place known as Pakistan.People in world knew India only which hurts Pakistani sentiments leaving them with no option but to use "muslim" as their identity.

what an election, yet we should cautiously accept Musharraf as he is a known gneneral to deal with, besides from a savage kargill attacker, he has turned in a probable responsible person as he too had a chance to know what India really is. Maybe he can guide Indias muslims to be less injurious to India. Though he can do quite opposit too as he and his predicessors have been doing. If India was a very faulty society, most muslims would have migrated to Pakistan,as some did and returned.
The way the country of 150 million is made to accept the will of an one indivudual is utterly shameful.It shows that nothing is working in that country.Not even the juduciary.The country lacks social discipline and tolerance to run a society and they will never succeed as a country-reason is they have spent early precious years by nurturing hatred and breeding terrorists.I feel bad for the common man who still dreams of successful pakistan-that will never happen.

dude, pakistan is a failed state ... don't live your life in denial. If it weren't for US brokering a deal between Musharaff and Bhutto, the changes that we are about to see won't be happening. There is a reason why Musharaff nominated a military chief and dropped all corruption charges against Bhutto.
I hope Bhutto, as she has promised, can bring end to terrorism and can control the rising dissidence in the western states.

there is no misleading by congress ... the fact that India is doing better than its neighbors confirms that there is something good about our leadership that they are missing. Maybe being secular is better (I firmly believe that it is). Maybe having congress as the leadership for most of the 60 years wasn't a bad choice afterall.
