Solar and Wind energy, if promoted by the GOVERNMENT properly can fulfil every requirement. The money which we are investing in Nuclear reactors and Hydroelectricity etc. should be diverted to the LARGE SCALE promotion of renewable sources of energy. Otherwise all our slogans on environmenmtal conservation will be slogans only. And I request readers to do some more research before writing anything against any idea. Why do we see everything so negatively?
To quote a report by Rob Edwards published in "The New Scientist" , 10th June 2006 (Magazine issue 2555),"In the mountain village of Kara Agach in Kyrgyzstan, people are unwittingly eating radioactive waste. Radium left behind by more than two decades of uranium mining during the Soviet era has contaminated their chickens, milk, potatoes and pears." THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE....
Till what time will we live in stone age? Everything must be decided on the merits and demerits & on purely scientific grounds. What is the point in ignoring the freely available energy and kissing the death? If we could start to see the things in more correct light, we can save our nature from more extinction. RE:Why can't India SCRAP THE VERY IDEA OF NUCLEAR POWER???

Solar and Wind Power are very diluted and are not feasible in India on a very large scale. Its not about building 100MW, we are talking of 20,000 - 30,000 MW if India has to sustain and achieve 9-10% growth rate. Already, almost all the states are facing acute power shortage. I doubt if India has enough Wind power potential before investing vast sums of money on wind power (first of all, Indian technology on wind power has to be developed given the winds in India are too diluted). India has huge Solar power potential, but the technology as of now is too costly to be implemented on a large scale. Nuclear power technology on the other hand, is well developed. I prefer the country investing its money in a proven technology rather than "to be developed" and diluted alternate energies for large scale purposes.

Thank u Mr. Jingle John for your comment on the topic. I think, it is actually DO or DIE situation for most of the people across the globe. And we need emergency measures to be taken now. And according to the experts, BULK PRODUCTION of renewable sources of energy will certainly bring down the costs to affordable limits. We are already sick of the fumes of Petrol/Diesel and we are also fearful of the side-effects of the Nuclear energy. So in order to make this earth a real paradise, we need to switch over to SOLAR AND WIND ENERGY as soon as possible. AND WHERE THERE IS WILL, THERE IS WAY. Regards, Chetan Upadhyaya, Satya Foundation

Yes, Mr. Chetan Upadhyaya, THE PEOPLE in general know about the right and the wrong, but it is actually the question of 'convenience and economy'. We have sold our self pride for the sake of money. So the question of environment is left way behind. There are companies like Suzlon, Tata Solar, Nanosolar and many others but they are not being given enough subsidies. The people in diferent countries must make pressure on the governments to move in the direction of Green earth. I have read your profile somewhere & As far as I know that after studying from KV DLW, Banaras Hindu University and IIMC, New Delhi, you also have been TV journalist for years and actively associated with many campaigns including this one. Why can't we invite like-minded people to make a forum and change the mind-set of the people, specailly the pro-Nuclear/pro-Dam lobby??? A website will be good idea in this direction. I have forwarded your thoughts to all the people in my e-mail list. All that the country needs is the strong will power and the desire to make the earth a real paradise... This planet does not need electricity at the cost of health and LIFE. THE WORLD NEEDS TO ADOPT SOLAR,WIND & OTHER RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY, without ANY FURTHER DELAY. Thanks again for your enlightening thoughts. BHUPENDRA SINGH
