Where is this country heading too?
by on Nov 27, 2007 01:50 PM  Permalink

India is a country where most of the people rely on cultivation where as these kind of Genoside is happening by our community ( when I say community it includes Politicians , Goverment officials ). In this country only Reliance can survive. The RIL is becoming monopoly in all the fields. Nobody is there question. The so called National channels like CNN-IBN and NDTV does not care about it because of they need to survive. Shame on Both National Parties.

farmers distress
by sachin sharma on Nov 27, 2007 01:44 PM  Permalink

farmers condition in India, especially cotton belt area is worse. Borrowing from informal sector at a very high rate, fluctuation in the price of cotton, poor infrastructure and insensitivity towards farmers by government are some of the reasons for the farmers distress. India is shining only in urban area not in rural area, for rich not poor and farmers. government has to take quick steps to solve this problem.

my dear chinmay, u failed to notice the sarcasm behind virendra singh's comment! of course, we all feel sad for the tragedy for the families concerned. However, the issue seems to have been touched only marginally! suicides take place when the individual is afraid of a loss of face in the society he is living in, for any reason whatsoever. In rural society, prestige- based on the dowry and other expenses u incur on family functions, including death-feasts, the "better" house, means of conveyance, etc., plays a much dominating role than it does in urban society because of closer social interaction-levels! Therefore, instaed of saving up for adverse times, an affluent farmer thinks of spending on prestige-enhancers when makes money from his crop. Agriculture today is as speculative as any commodity market with prices being subject to so many forces of market as well as nature. Thus, fluctuation and cyclicity in production and prices of various crops is only natural. How many components of population can a nation subsidise! As it is there are huge amounts being spent on ecomnomic and social subsidies for the "weak" and the " not so weak", putting a severe drain on the country's resources. In my opinion, there is a need for educating the farmer about the need for smaller families and curbing ostentatious social spending on various functions as also putting aside some of the income as saving for hard times!

by Babu GR on Nov 27, 2007 02:27 PM  Permalink
Hello Mr Virendra Singh, You might be a born millionaire but please spend some time in reading article about poor people, Majority of people in India were still poor, this includes me as well. Agriculture is still considered as the backbone of civilized India, if our Indian farmers don%u2019t work with high efficiency for very lesser profits, you cannot enjoy your daily sophisticated foods at a reasonable price. May be in the near future, we can expect a situation where India need to import Agricultural products from overseas. Indian farmers needs to me motivated and well supported by the government to improve their industry rather letting it down to sink.

Farmer's suicide and political propaganda
by Unni on Nov 27, 2007 01:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If the above statistics are to be believed, there is no name of GUJARAT STATE appears in the main list of States ; even then the Congis are advertising on T.V. Channels on Electioneering giving a very bad picture of Gujarat in the case of Farmer's suicide' data. Are these Channels doing a favour to the particular political party on economic consideration; if it is true then it is a sell out and this can never be called true Journalism
Such channels shud be removed from the cable net work.

you dont get any genuine data out of gujarat!
Recently somebody went with the RTI bill in hand and thretened them... so the Gujarat govt gave somefigure for the suicides there last year... it was staggering figure.. 4-5 times higher than official figures... you need to threten guj govt to get good enough data... otherwise if you go and ask them they usually kick you out!

Modi is the only MARAD to challenge these neutrals and their pittus. He is like a one man army against extremism which others dont digest because they want daily bomb blasts and subsequent distribution of goodies before every election to satisfy their lust for Minority appeasement.

There were huge number of farmers' suicides in Gujarat. The Modi govt. in its true characteristic way it treats human life, gives no figures, but it is common knowledge, and was reported in the national press.

BSP shut down reliance stores which is a decission that directly affects the farmers as they would get good prices and even the common man would benefit if we encourage more such stores.

Hey Bharatmata! the community that feeds the 120 crores and more is killing itself and mother you and your children are just looking at this without any feelings. You love your political sons so much that like Nyayadevata you have also blind folded yourself.Politicians are bent upon destroying your very existance and you are QUITE? To add to farmers tragedy we have a BIG CHOR called sharad pawar who is looting you and the poor in broad day light being a minister for agriculture. He imports food
which is unfit for human consumption at high price and feeds your poor children, spends more time on cricket because mullah in cricket is real big.Why dont you teach this man a lesson? You have defaced him, its not enough mother,he should be made accountable for every farmer's death. He and thousands of other politicians need
very severe punishment, they should be hanged or sent to jail for atleast 50yrs,Why dont you talk to Nyayadevata and punish these rascals.
