Gujarat Election
by Nilesh Patel on Nov 24, 2007 06:27 PM  Permalink

The CM of Gujarat is not merely a Chief Minister. He is a man who blots out the line of demarcation between the state and the society. The hierarchy of the ruler and ruled breaks down and we have a phenomenon of the state and the society combined in the great adventure of the reconstruction of a new Gujarat. Narendra Modi is the man of destiny, the guiding star of the masses. If like the poet, the leader is also born, here we have a born leader. That he is also, at heart, a poet endows him with imagination and emotion that go to the making of his vision with abundant commitment and concern. His is a profile in courage, presenting a common man who is also uncommon.

Growth with Discipline
Considering the overall growth potential of Gujarat, the Planning Commission had set a target growth rate of 10.2% for Gujarat in the 10th five-year plan compared to the average of 8.2% for the entire country; and true to this spirit of economic buoyancy, Gujarat achieved a growth rate of 15% in the first year itself and surpassed the target of 10.2% set by the planning commission. In fact, Gujarat has been growing at 10-11% for the last several years and all set to take on the challenges of the next five-year plan target.
What is more important is that the growth is coupled with financial discipline. Soon after he became the Chief Minister, Modi focused on curtailing government expenditure and emphasized on the recovery of government dues. The sales tax income which was Rs.5,890 crores when he took over increased to Rs.10,606 crores within 4 years, more importantly without imposing any new taxes. Since last 3 years, development expenditure is more than the non-development expenditure in Gujarat, which is an unusual phenomenon
On account of the abundant availability of gas and with a view to proliferate its using both by the industry and household, he reduced the sales tax on gas from 20% to 12%. His fiscal prudence has enabled the turning around of `PSU%u2019s (Public Sector Units) such as GSFC, GMDC, GIPCL, GNFC, GACL and resulted in enhancing their market capitalization to an all time high. Another prudent step was a major restructuring drive turning

Modi as a CM
Gujarat has been ruled by various political parties since India became independent. During this time how many communial riots Gujarat citizens have seen?...countless. Since Mr. Modi became CM Gujarat has experienced health growth in every aspect. Had this been achieved under Congress raj. Congress is interested in selling the country out to the outliers and want to continue the legacy of gandhi and nehru family. What have done that is good for India except helping increase in curroption, creating unhealthy attitude between hindus and muslims. I strongly believe Mr. Modi should be the only person to lead the Gujarat. I left Ahmedabad seven years ago but as an Indian citizen and humble gujarat I request to accept my view. This is the view of not only one NRI but all NRI's (gujaratis and non gujaratis). Please select Modi if you want to expereience prosperety and select congress if you want to experience gandhi raj that will only lead you to devestation

Yes, why should MODI win??
by Tataghata Mukherjee on Nov 24, 2007 04:01 PM  Permalink

There is no valid reason for Modi - or BJP to win.

Because Gujarat:

* Does not want to get the dubious distinction of being branded as a state of Religious Fanatics

* Does not need a 'dictator' to achieve peace, progress and prosperity

* Does not want a leader who is not welcomed by dozens of developed countries of the world; Gujarat very much needs and wants to be a part of the global society, the global economy. In these times of rapidly increasing globalisation, Gujarat needs a leader with a truly international standing, and not someone who is internationally notorious.

While Modi repeatedly boasts of '5 crore Gujaratis' in front of the media every time he gets an opportunity to do so, everybody knows that in reality, he is only a bedfellow to 5 rich business houses. His sole concern is to make them richer, and nothing else.

People of Gujarat, unite, and

Show him up this time
Throw him out this time

What a Pity!!
by Tataghata Mukherjee on Nov 24, 2007 04:00 PM  Permalink

BJP is so hungry for power that one feels sorry for them. Having tasted power once they just cannot wait to get back. All their predictions of mid-term elections since 2004 when they lost the election have come to naught. They will be well advised to change course, give up communalism, break their relations with the RSS, Shiv Sena and VHP, think in terms of nation's good and support the Govt on issues that are worthy of support and not oppose for the sake of opposition.
Opposition party in a democracy is meant to be a watch dog and not a compulsive opponent to oppose anything and everything that the Govt does.BJP should learn from the western countries from whom we have copied the system of parliamentary democracy..
India badly needs a good, efficient and disciplined opposition party and the BJP can fulfil; that role if they have the wisdom and will to do so otherwise they can sulk and make stupid statements like some of their leaders do and stay in wilderness..

All About Gujarat's Development!!
by Tataghata Mukherjee on Nov 24, 2007 03:58 PM  Permalink

The development you are seeing in Gujarat is not the handwork of BJP. India is developing very fast. This is because of the good reforms brought by Mr. Man mohan singh 10 years back. The speed of the development is same, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab was the best developing states in India due to their better resources. Still they are most developed states... and other states follows.. But now Karnataka and Tamil Nadu is growing fast.

So dont think that the development is occuring in gujarat is due to Modi.. It is due to Mr. Man Mohan Singh and congress govt. in centre and for Gujarat the Reliance played a great role.

Both majority communalism and minority communalism to be equally condemned.
by Sahadevan KK on Nov 24, 2007 01:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Both majority communalism and minority communalism to be equally condemned.

In Kerala, Christian Politician like K.M. Mani, Some of Christian Fathers and Bishops, Congress leaders like Ramesh Chennithala, Opposition leader Oommen Chandi, RSS, Nair Service Society (NSS) etc. with the support of media are joined under an umbrella to oppose the Left Front government.

In West Bengal, all the communal leaders of Muslim League, SIMI, Jamaat-e-Islami, BUPC, RSS & BJP, Congress, Maoists, SUCI, CPI(ML) with the help of media are trying to eliminate the Left base.

there is one article 2 days back (in small corner of one newspaper) that one muslim family is forcibly evicted from their home inspite of they being staying there for the last 3 years, and are being harassed, (bcoz they dont want muslim to stay in their locality) this happened in a place called nasik, in maharashtra ruled by sickular media's favourite party congress.
nothing happens neither for safety of the family nor abt the news.
imagine had the same incident happened in modi's gujarat, all the ppl like mahesh bhatts, aamir khans, teesta setalvads, ngos, lallus, cpms, etc. including media wud hv jumped to the highest level and showed that state is worse than afghanistan

I agree. Media is only interested in sensational commuunal hatred stories from Gujarat. They will never highlight anything good about Gujarat. Media won't allow gujaratis and non-gujaratis to forget the riots. They dont know anything else about Gujarat except Godhra and riots. As a Gujarati, I will urge all gujaratis and also non-gujaratis, lets forget past and move ahead towards development. Ab bas !!!
