We need to take care of our body and mind but having said that we should not have a blind eye towards our surrounding environment. No one comes out and talks about the true pollutants that pollute our water system, our diet, our air, etc. There are some deadly chemicals that are added into plastics to get the extreme physical properties and no one talks about it. Some dangerous chemicals are added at the time of refining so that the fuel properties are increased. We consume them is such low doses that it won%u2019t kill in one go but, are some of the major cause of cancers. Breathing can help, but bringing awareness about the environment will be a bigger help.

Rancher if you want to talk about something big, talk about the miserable, wreched caste system in India and how to eliminate this cancer that is eating the Indian civilization.

I agree with you Kumar and I don%u2019t know how anyone can fix this issue. There is an old saying that says...%u201CThe mother would not feed unless the child asks for it%u201D. The people in Vidarbha should mutually cooperate and push the administration to get the things done. No one from outside is going to come and help them. Someone should teach them that the key lies in knowledge/education.
Vidarbha is a backward region of the so called industrial state of Maharashtra. The key reason for Vidarbha's backwardness in the lack of irrigation facilities. Successive governments have built irrigation facilities in Western Maharashtra but not in Vidarbha. Do you know why? Castiesm! The Vidarbha region is populated by mostly backward class people, telis, kunbis and SC/STs. The Maratha leaders of Maharashtra don't care about this region since many Marathas don't live here. So all the money is spent in Western Maharashtra. I have seen people from Vidarbha mistakingly complain that their region is discriminated against by the mostly Maratha politicians. But this is not region or language discrimination, this is caste based discrimination. People from Western Maharashta don't want to help the SC/ST, kunbi and teli majority of Vidarbha. They want these people to stay poor, uneducated and low in population so that the Marathas can rule, hence the neglect of Vidarbha.

No irrigation = less crops = poor, uneducated and malnaurished population. Poor and uneducated = Less power Malnaurished = less population. Castiesm is the root cause of a majority of India's problem. Caste system prevents the building of compassion, empathy, justice, education, peace and progress in a society.

Kumar - you are oversimplifying the problem. Caste system is an invention of the British to divide the people of India. The root cause is not caste but lack of opportunity, education and awareness. In many parts of the world there are economic differences, and you cannot oversimplify and issue a blanket statement that caste is the root cause of everything. India is a poor country and administrators have to figure out how to create opportunities. Blaming it on caste is an escapist statement, avoiding serious attention to the root cause.

"Caste system is an invention of the British to divide the people of India." I think this is untrue. Caste system has existed for thousands of years before the British came to India. British weakened it to an extent by giving others an opportunities to get an education for the first time in 5000 years. Also you are confusing the 'cause' and 'effect' of the phenomena. Caste system is the 'cause' and the lack of lack of opportunity, education and awareness is the 'effect' of this 'cause'. Remeber, the caste system banned education for all so that it can stay strong.
RE:Breathing Techniques?

David Johnson, I agree that the breathing techniques will not help starving people as much as it will help the stressed out techies in Bangalore and businessmen in Bombay. From what I read Ravi Shankar is also teaching people regarding harvesting rain water which is more helpful to a droght stiken farmer rather than breathing techniques. Hopefully Ravi Shankar spend 10 hours on rain water harvesting techinque and 5 minutes in breathing exercise and not vice versa!

Sri Sri Ravishankar is true hero. He is helping people look within and find peace, energy and passion for life. He represents the ancient work of our rishi muni and giving people in simple manner so that every body can use those powerful technique in daily life. Sri Sri is not alone. Even Baba Ramdeo, Osho dhara, vipassana all of them are doing excellent job by helping people look within and find the source of real power. We should help them as much as possible.

where are your so-called 'fathers' and 'sisters' and 'brothers' when these people were committing suicides?? why do your so-called 'preachers' have to convert people in order to 'help'? why does half of the western world come to India, gets trained in all our ancient arts like yoga and meditation, and go back without getting converted to hinduism? why do your churches have to preach in tribal areas?

and if u say that the british made India modern...they may have unknowingly, but their sole motive of coming to India was to rob it of its wealth. We would have been much much better off without the brit asses than with them. the severe bouts of taxes and humility inflicted by them left our people so poor that we're yet to recover.
If we were to ever demand a compensation for the money that they illegallly took from here, entire europe would go bankrupt.

I feel Sri Sri is an educated and practcal guy. He is from a village and he never concentrate only on cities. His smiliing face is like a magnet. He is adored by youth a lot. He is not like other Baba who like to mint money from rich and enjoy a royal life. I appreciate his activities.

Then why are his courses so expensive??? I think its amoney making racket. He would be burdening the poor farmers with exhorbitant fees of art of living.
How come so many celebs are hooked on to AOL? whats the motivation for celebs to endorse AOL. Sri Sri's biggest Patron Vijay Mallya is a known Playboy, why is a playboy associated with AOL?? These are the questions asked by thye common man

don't think he charges the farmers for breathing, but the article is more of an ad for sri sri than abt an "Experiment that's revolutionising Vidarbha". the rain water harvesting and new farming techniques takes just 4-5 sentences n the rest is sri sri brand building. i hope that the farmers do benefit in a marginal way beyond all the breathing exercise ads.

You guys are sitting in your rooms and contemplating whether Sri Sri's breathing techniques and seva activities are benefitting the farmers. Actually 200,000 of them are going to his satsang only because they have felt the difference in their lives. We should stop arguing and showing our " intelligence " and just do what we can to help such noble and divine souls to change the lives of millions on this planet.

Well , Lord Krishna is the greatest playboy of world.Everybody likes him. What is wrong if you are a playboy.Yoga does not say to be a imotent. There is nothing wrong with Mallya as long as he is not harming anybody. Ancient Indian culture is very liberal on this aspect. Only after muslim rule we became so conservative. Anyway regarding fee,you should not complain as the money accepted is used for organizational purpose. The organization is not funded by Vijay Mallaya, which is a good thing. If you donot like, then donot join there. If you pay extra money then you will be interested to learn it properly. Nothing is free in this world. You should be accountable to every thing. I paid Rs500 for my wife. It is good , I did not mind for it. We spend Rs1000 in a pub, what is wrong spending rs 500 for a good cause?????
now that ravishankar has come let us see if the suicide rate declines. otherwise there are many babas who can come and teach. but the question is whether it will help or not?
RE:Wait
by Rajneesh on Nov 02, 2007 01:29 AM Permalink
Dude if you dont know about the person dont comment. Sri Sri RaviShankar does not claim to be a baba nor does he preach religion. He encourages positive attitude for life and preaches a lifestyle. Even if he charges money, you can see that with all the good the NGO is doing your money is not wasted. Its way better than paying income tax.
RE:Wait
by PRAMOD INGLE on Nov 02, 2007 10:52 AM Permalink
firstly he has not voluntarily organised the function, it is done by some NGO & for doing this i don't think ravishankar has taken initiative. he has to deliver the lecture it can be in bangalore, NY or Yavatmal, no pain.
how positive attitude for life will help if there is no rain for years. if farmers r taking loan from rich people or banks for years how they will service. basically instead of AOL they need timely help, scientific way of doing farming, monetary help and support of government. i am from vidarbha rigion so i can say that. no need of AOL, it is for the one who is having sufficient money for his bread and butter. if it is so useful then it is mostly required for 'beggers' becoz they need positive attitude towards life for motivation to work. for farmers the solution is something different. i don't think ravishankar has arranged any AOL camp for 'Beggers', may be due to no media attention or the issue is not in limelight.
RE:Wait

I think Ravishankar should be praised for his effort. of all the 'babas' and 'maulvis' and 'fathers', he is the first one to take such an initiative. Whether or not he's able to stop suicides is a different thing, but his effort is worth praising.
