In a large democracy like India, the leaders/government is elected by the common people and not selected. It does not matter who is the MP/Minister etc. The development of a country depends upon the understanding of a ground level situation by the leader whom we elect and not depend upon his/her education, vocabulary or English speaking ability. Once she pledges her service by knowing the common people's need, there are learned, english speaking, economists, IAS officers at his/her command to implement the decisions. Foreign investors or any investments does not depend upon the beauty/look and english speaking ability of a leader/minister...they only evaluate the agenda of the government and ability to administer the state.
In India, from day one of independance, political parties always played with the sentiments of common man to gain votes. Until a couple of decades ago, it was easy for them to garner votes by playing the cards of religion and casts, mainly due to lack of education.
For example, an illiterate politician like Laloo Yadav did not do any good or development for Bihar for almost 15-20 years and was very confident that he is the permanent CM for them -ultimately, people defeated him and installed another government with a sensible CM and the results are seen now. at the same time, when he was shifted to the Railways, on which he has absolutely no knowledge, could do a better job, since he was dependant on the advises provided by the senior officials/IAS officers of the Ministry.
However, as you know, this situation is slowly and steadily changing and people are getting at least the basic education to understand who is good and who is bad - I am not advocating the Mayavati is good or bad - they have a choice among the 4 - so this time they chose to give a chance to Mayavati - now it depends upon her ability to fullfill the commitments given to the voters.
Gundaism has to come to an end one day or the other - you cannot permanently bully people and stay in power.
So don't go by the look and feel of the elected representative - wait and watch how they perform.

correction noted - but the question is what could he do for Bihar..that is the question...
in a subject where he is Zero (railways) he could do better - irrespective whether the turnaround of the Railways were the result of hardwork and brain of the earlier Ministry or not..
I do not understand as to how UP people elected this hopless lady "Mayavati" as CM. She does not know the very basics of politics. The UP people would understand their folly soon. They already have tasted her fruits in the past not once but thrice as CM but still did not learn much out of that. She is uncvilized and unclutured lady. Like mulayam she is also a goonda. CM designate should be a sober person, educated to a reasonable level, understand others feelings and above all with rich in characterstics. He should be respected by all, irrespective of caste creed, religion, etc. By electing this lady, UP is further going back as far as development is concerned. One thing Mayavati can do, put this Mulayam behind the bar for his bad doings and unorthodox way of accumulating money for furtherance of his family and himself. What was he then and now ? The fund manager, amar singh should also be arrested and put behind bars. These people together runied UP. anar singh would now get ample time to be with AB Sr, & AB Jr and of course Bhabhiji and Aishwariaji. Of course we are not to blame them but collectively blame the people of UP. Thye should know where they stand when compared with other developed and educated states.

Ramchandran - read my posting above.
since you seems to be from Kerala, there is no fault in your way of thinking, as Kerala is 99% literate state and no chance of an illiterate becoming a Minister. Unfortunately, that is not the case with other States of India.
this election clearly proves that people no longer want to be ruled by 1 family . inspite of campaigning by rahul gandhi , congress is where it was last time so effective value of rahul gandhi = ZERO

She will bring SC/ ST Act back. She will sing her old song manuvadi, and after 1 year some of her party legislatures will form a new party and form a new government under BJP or SP.
