Good for the country
by KVSS Rao on May 11, 2007 01:38 PM  Permalink

It is good for country's unity and democracy that a party with the name Bahujan Samaj Party came to power on its own in the most populous state in India, when it genuinely included all sections of the society in its agenda and party.

This will motivate more people, who are underdogs today, to put in efforts to come on top some day.

Brahmin Backlash
by Harsha K on May 11, 2007 01:36 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I feel it is the brahmin backlash against further marginalization in the name of OBC reservation, that helped Mayawati. Everyone seems to have taken them for granted, not caring for their woes. Now, the parties will have to be more careful.

it is nehru..not gandhi actually... poor gandhiji is many times mistaken as the forefather of the present "gandhi dynasty"..just becos some Foroz from some "gandhi" family was married to the great NEHRU Daughter!! I even doubt if Indira's evil mind worked at such young age and she decided to marry a "gandhi" to have that advantage behind her!!!

Congratulations Mayawati!
by Chandu on May 11, 2007 01:36 PM  Permalink

I hope with the support of all the sections of 'Janata', Mayawati will do a good job this time and wish her all the best. The BJP should understand that they cannot keep on taking people for a ride in the name of a medieval period temple and it is delighting to watch family run congress eating the dust.

Brahmin Factor
by meena chandar on May 11, 2007 01:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

THis win was because of the brahmin factor. Brahmins decided to vote for BSP as they have promised to take care. Withouth that, BSP would have crashed miserably....

They enjoyed reservations 100% from thousands of years.Still they are crying by talking against reservations of SC, ST AND OBC.

Dont forget even Bhima Ambedkar was not in favour of reservation more than 10 years. But as it happens, if something is given to someone, its very difficult to take it away. The ground reality is SC/ST still need it, but not the so called creamy layer. But giving reservation to OBCs is bullshit...

Hi, Meena Chandar, You are right. No doubt that Upper Castes, especially, Brahmins have also voted for BSP, otherwise Mayawati may not have won in such large number of seats. kv_mohanan1@rediffmail.com
