A rich and settled community like the Gujjars, which have had leaders like the Late Rajesh Pilot, and his son the Wharton MBA graduate Sachin Pilot would be Gujjars ST's too.
Economically the Gujjars would be in entirety a Creamy layer caste and community. May be Gujjar leaders need to go to different parts in India to see for themselves what ST or a scheduled tribe infact really means, and who are the people, the class of people who need to ask for a ST status, are faar faar impoverished than the Gujjars.
Gujjars are rich and settled, they do not need ST status. It would be robbing really deserving and poorer ST's like the Meenas of their benifits if richer and wealtheir communities like Gujjars get the ST reservation.
It will start another trend of more and more OBC's agitating and rioting with demand for then to be downgraded as ST's and SC's.
It would then start the LAW of the MOB and not LAW of the LAND.
i think all freedom fighters are responsible for currunt situation of india.i think we would have been living batter life if britishers stayed here yet

court cant do anything in these issues because they r working under parlament and parlament is full with currupt and shameless politicians.we have to elect educated and least currupt leaders for parlament.i m sure only this thing can solve these problems else we have to suffer from these problems for atleast another 100 yrs
yesterday punjab.today rajasthan, now which state is going to burn?i m sure these all things are created by congress as they are master of it.i doubt congress has hand in godhara incident too because they can do anything for power.

Anything for power is a BJP speciality. Rajasthan problem was started by Vajpayee in 1999 when he declared the Jats a ST tribe in order to get their votes. Again during the 2002 elections BJP promised the same status to the Gujjars for their votes. This time they sat over it resulting in today's situation.

Yeah, its really governments fault that this community can not protest peacefully and prefers to resort to large-scale hooliganism...I have no sympathy for them...they are merely terrorists.

Agreed, the goings on in BJP rules states, their leaders and chief ministers are showing the electorate that they are unable to govern the country. It is better to be an active politcal party meant for good governance very fast and else disband this party immediately.

Jats were not given ST status, they were included in the OBC category, just wanted to point that out and Yeah I agree its a problem started by Vajpayee.

My topic got diverted cas the above people like "ali baba" , "abhishek" asked question, otherwise I was suppose to stop it with just one comment. I would agree that a hotel waiter in metro has "some" advantage over others. Lets contrast this with another waiter who is upper caste in the same hotel. The upper caste waiter ( according to him and the society ) is not "meant" to be doing the menial job while the other waiter is "born" to be doing that... no one says this, but it is built by the society layer after layer from the time one is born. Anyway I am stopping with this.

Certain people have geniuely suffered and have been handicapped, all others OBCs, ST and others where not "forced" to lead a tribal life style nor they suffered untouchability. When someone suffered these people distanced, now when government wishes to uplift them, these people want to be included.

Friend Sicilian then where is the controversary? Yes the very poor needs roti-kapda-makan and Govt hasto give it to them. By earning more, while reservation is eating up that very ability through introduction of inefficiency

I am not justifying reservations for anyone then the people who were at the bottom most ladder of the Hindu society. The untouchables. Read my topmost post on the same line. Problem is the India should be clearly able to justify who the reservation should be given and who should it not be.
RE:just like supreme court had observed...

@Narad There is a difference between "poor" who need roti-kapda-makan and the "poor"& "dalits" who needs roti-kapda-makan and something more which says "You deserve something better", the one way which government is trying to force this in them is through reservation (since government cant change the religious texts or the attitude of other people towards them).

Friend you are we are blogging inthe context of Gujjar riots. And when it comes to earning respect the deserving ones dont need Govt help. Surely if you are from a Metro city(which is what econ-progressive society behaves like) I dont think you ask the waiter in Hotel about his caste.
Economic-progress-science automatically wipes out racial nonses. This Govt intervention is only polarising-nourishing a bad identity.

Give me an example in history when untouchable have achieved any the status you have mentioned above. All krishna, karna, sudama , chandragupta, ashoka were anything but not an untouchable. History does have to say something.

Poverty is 1 generation disease, caste is of 100 or even 1000 generations together. Can you make anything of the sindhi community who came from pakistan (then india) to this side and became rich ? How do you justify that ? Hard work and why do certain people who live in perpetual poverty for generations not able to get rid of it , again the answer is religion and social pressue!! cas they are not then choosen people to be rich.
RE:just like supreme court had observed...

Those millions any way get sidelined by the elite-backward who corners the benefit.
Yes those millions need help, but that can come when wealth is generated that can be spent on them. And this wealth can be created only when genuinely meritorious(not cast based) get the drivers seat. Today more than 2 lakh crores are blocked in Govt cos and instead of generating wealth like black-hole they are eating up tax money.
If Europe has banished slavery(another name for caste system) it is due to economic-scientific progress not quota system.
Million dollar question is do we waste tax-payers money on useless fellows who are riding piggybank on genuine poor or bother about the real needy?

So do you mean when India was "sone ki chidya" these people were rich?? Forget it, people just know to make gold and stash them in their houses, didnt you hear that India is a trillon dollor economy ? All evil arises from Hinduism which dosnt teach to help community or poors, instead they blame on the birth.
How can the Gujjar's reconcile the fact that they are usually committing the most atrocities against lower castes, and then suggest they be classified as SC/ST?!?!?!
What a pathetic community for resorting to these tactics, nothing more than goondaghiri...army should fire upon anyone seen taking part in destruction of public property...its what they deserve. Enough of India being this soft state where such anti-national elements get sympathy, when they deserve an iron fist...
Why? Just wait and see how other communities are inspired by the Gujjar tactics and do something similiar, or worse...
VP Singh and Arjun Singh...your legacy is showing its ugly face...when you meet your maker, you will answer to him only, just as Hitler and others had done.

Arjun Singha nd VP Singh should be shot in public eye at point blank range............so that noone in the near future even dares to take Indians for a ride........as they have done.......
The Hindus brought in Gujjars,Rajputs,Ahirs,Jats in Hinduism to exterminate raising Buddhism in ancient India and gave them the Kshatriya status. Then these people converted to islam and asked pakistan and now they are corrupting India. They never had any in justice done to them, in fact this tribe is not from INDIA>.
