Idea of unity of India in the writings of Shenvi Goenbab !
by cajetan coelho on Jun 02, 2007 01:59 AM  Permalink

Saints, philosophers, thinkers, activists, holy men, women and common folk from all walks of life down the ages have enriched Marathi language.

The celebrated French author Guy Deleury in his magnus opus "The Cult of Vithobha" has truly captured the spirit of the Marathi language. So too the late German writer Mathew Lederle in his "Philosophical trends of Modern Maharashtra" shows his immense respect for Marathi, the culture and the people speaking, thinking and expressing through Marathi. Living with them for a while in Pune I learnt to appreciate and enjoy the Marathi language and the people of that region. Marathi is a well developed language.

Konkani has its place and individuals like Shenvi Goenbab has done serious work for the upliftment of the language. His stories in the "Gomantopanishat" continue the old Upanishadic tradition of imparting the highest philosophy of life through significant tales.

In the story "Saunsar Butti" or the "Deluge" he brings out the quintessence of the systems contained in the Upanishads, the Puranas, Bhagvadgita, Manusmriti, Mahabharata, Darshanas, Shankar-Mimamsa, Badarayana's Brahma Sutras, the Bible, the Koran and a host of other ancient as well as modern philosophical writings.

Faithful to the best of Indian traditions the "Deluge" ends on a note directly taken from the Vedas: "Now let us live together; let us be strong together; let us stop hating one another; let us come together through love".

Dr. Cajetan Coelho

A nonsensical approach in a broad-spectrum society.
by chanakya maurya on May 31, 2007 12:08 PM  Permalink

The local language, the national language (i.e. Hindi) and English must be a MUST all over Bharatvarsh. Language barriers are built by the politicians to appease their local vote banks. In terms of national interests it inflicts more harm than good in the process of national integration.

It is largely meant to persecute an outsider who has almost nothing to gain by mastering the local dialect.

The approach should be to get work done not make it much more complicated for the exclusive interests and appeasement of Bhoomiputras, who are often stupid and lazy bums in many of our states.

Official Language

Both Marathi and Konkani have to be granted official language status and not just one of them. both these languages are interlinked. Konkani itself is derived from Marathi language.

Marathi was the official language in Goa since the Kadamba and Vijaynagar rulers, while konkani was the spoken language .thus both have co-existed since the last 1500 years. Marathi was used extensively for oral as well as written communication while Konkani was spoken and not written until recently.65% of goan people consider themselves marathi speaking while 30% konkani speaking. both are now being reduced to a minority in goa due to outward migration of goan people to mumbai , gulf and inward migration of non-goans from karnataka , UP , Bihar etc.

so marathi and konkani has to stand united for their mutual welfare.

Trenad & Tabako have 56% Indian. The moment you land there, you will see 4/5 Hindi Radio channel. Most of the African and Fizi have enough people from UP & Bihar (migrated as labour) and ruling now.
