I think we indians should have a new & clear idea about how to make our country as grown one and also to keep the world as a better place to live. Imagine the kind of distruction that would be caused by such nuclear weapons, it is said that that the Nuc's of present era are 10-15 times powerful, than it was then around 1945. So the kind destruction and reactor it will produce will last for 100's of years, let us show our might in other useful technology, infrastructure and many more good things. This americans are using both india and pakistan as their customers for their military products. They are the one who are agitating the situation. All of us should understand this and concentrate on developing over country by all other means except war fare. Let's make the world a better place to live.
India should concentrate to improve its economy. Any nuclear test shall keep even our friends away. The best deterrent shall be our rockets. A visit to the moon shall be equal to 1000 nuclear tests.

Wat comparison is this??? We are talking of Nuclear testing for God sake.. If you think sending a mission to Moon at the cost of 2000 Crores is worth it, then I can say nothing at all to your wisdom..... No doubt by the Moon Mission will b great and v will b benefiting a lot from that in terms of Technology that will be developed for it... But just think of the scenario in which an INDIAN Nuclear Missile self destructs or fails to detonate when required.. I mean that will be catastrophic and the only cause of this will be Less or Inadequate testing%u2026.. Since we have chosen to be a Nuclear Power it does not make sense to have self imposed Moratorium, testing has to be carried out for safety and future weapons, until we have sufficient data available to enable us to do a simulated testing%u2026%u2026. Which is only for the Engineers and Scientists to decide by analysis and Not By Pressure from US or the Indian Government%u2026%u2026%u2026..

It is very naive suggestion and comment.Without N-power nobody will have any respect for India. We have very hostile neigbours and the only way to keep them away from attacking us is by having effective N-power as well as more of these so that they are not tempted to walk into our country.
What the author regarding weapons says is largely correct but that still does not answer the question on nuclear testing and the nuclear deal properly. Consider:
1) Nuclear tests are typically done to create efficient bombs but given the destructive power of these bombs it is not neccessary to make these efficient if the purpose is deterrance. Other nations have conducted 1000s of tests to use Nuclear weapons actively at some point on well bounded targets and not for deterrance alone. India's goals are different. We don't aspire to play a miliary role at the global stage other than peacekeeping. 2) The 1.4 billion ppl are now desperate for better living standards. Infrastructure development whose core is power holds to key to future progress. We need the nuclear power in addition to other sources of power. There are only 2 options: develop the technology independently or import it. We have failed on the development front over the last 50 years. Import will eventually lead to development with the participation of private Indian firms. Irrespective of the american terms, which we may in a position to violate 20 years from now without, we should go for this deal now, which is a rere opportunity.
It is surprising why we alwayz cry for world peace, disarmament, global nuke reduction and peaceful co-existence. Well thought out article. The author makes an excellent analysis when he talks of tacit knowledge and is a veiled attack on DRDO and other agencies which drumbeat achievements but take decades to make anything operational.I have seen DRDO scientists in Bangalore, come to the facility at 10:30 am...walk straight to the canteen, have tea till 11:30am, sign in and come back straight to lunch at 1:00 and then go back to their desks at 2:30pm only to come back at 4:00 for tea and wait at the gates at 5:00pm.Adding to our geo-politcal situation where our neighbours are increasingly belligerant and arming themselves to the teeth is our socio-political system where no mass leader actually has any leadership skills or assertive capabilities.Strength respects strength. The current state of our deterrent is unknown and probably for strategic reasons it is kept that way, but for sure we can ignore research and adaptive testing only to our peril

Hi, You need a reply. Here it is. This is political now and hence rationality is all lost.Hope this answers your question.
making 5 or 6 nuke tests doesnt make india an nuclear capable country. save nuclear capability, india struggling to test an long range missiles of over 5000km.india is neither nuclear capable nor long range missile capable.it is the politicians and scientists who make these useless drumbeats.india is very slow in attaining nuclear status. by the it had tested ,it is too late to join the nuclear club.
