post kalam
by on May 17, 2007 06:21 AM  Permalink

well, now that our mainstream politics are soo corrupt and soo painful to sustain for people with some intellectual capacity - why not atleast have the positions like governor, prez adorned by some educated, sensible people. If not anything, we would atleast have a good look out presenting such people as our nations's representatives on the international forums and also may be inspirational to some in india !!! We dont lose anything anyways with somebody with no political background occupying such posts.
Well the point is - having kalam as prez is good - now that hez done lets have somebody on similar lines ... narayana murthy, rahul bajaj, TN Seshan etc !!
I was thinking had Manmohan singh not become the PM, he would have been a perfect for a prez.

And kalam is too old and tired to have science experiments and so he accepted the prez post. Anyways ppl like him after retirement are best served as role models for the society. Think about the millions of inspired kids who learnt about him during his tenure !!! He couldn't have served the country in a better way !!

it is very poor and regrettable statement.do calculate the money spent in treatment of your grand mother or grand father.
also ,the comment is not appropriate when he has declined the post

Next President of India
by Anil Panikar on May 17, 2007 05:54 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let us play politics once again. Last time around Mr.P C Alexander's candidature was not acceptable to the congress as the coterie felt that the nation would not accept two Christians, oe as President another as Prime Minister before the drama filled Prime ministership sacrifice. Now we have a Prime Minister by Proxy. let us have have Pranab Mukherjee with his Christian credentials as the next Candidate and the whole nation postrate in front of Rahul and Priyanka for acceptance of his nomination. Last time Muslim as President, Mr. K R Narayanan was SC, A minority is the PM, An OBC / Brahmin / ST as the next President? Let us ask Italian Madam. We are nation of jokers without intelligence except wagging our tail and being a boot licker's. Can't we find another President who is an Indian first?

Let the president post be a honarary post!
by Onlooker on May 17, 2007 05:50 AM  Permalink

Let it be an honarary post for a pricipled person who has done something for the country. Let the person not try to act smarter than the party/elected members that put him in that post. I am not saying you should compromise on your priciple. Any person who has the right attitude should be able to develop the country from whatever position he is in. You don't need to be a president to do that.

just want to know what Mr. Kalam could do as a president , True he is a genious, he provides a direction to the youths but as a president why waste his mental power as everyone knows that how much power the president of india holds
He can send back any law cleared by parliyament only once but not twice
also the NDA and Lots of Indians are not happy with Mr. Kalam's as the decision of hanging AFjal is still hanging in air
want to know your positive and negative comment over the issue

Prince

kalam has missed many points, he is the president, he need not agree with the PM many wrong decisons like dissolving assemblies and not doin so, capital punishment of a traitor, moreover even the courts have turned down his authority in the reservation case.

mr. viswanath,

please go through the indian constitution once again.

indian president can send back any bill only once. if cabinet approve it again and send it to rashrpati then he is bound to approve it.

indian president has no power to take any decision even in the case of emergency & war.

Dr Kalam is ok with his principles. But I don't think he could have been a man of priciple and reached a highest position in a govt organization like ISRO.

What is the use?
by K K on May 17, 2007 01:46 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What is the use of ABV as president - no powers for the president under India's constitution. The whole system is now corrupt so what can one man do?

Ideally, Subash Bose or Sardar Patel should have been the "dictator" of India after independence for at least 20 years. That would have given them time to clean out the weeds (commies, congressies, anti-Hindu, and anti-nationals).

I like the American policy - anyone associated with commies are put in jail and barred from politics. We should sentence the old hacks Joyti Basu, VP Singh, the Karats, etc to 20 years RI.

he is the one who gave a wake up call to the congress
there can be a non-congress govt at the centre and that too which can run its full term.
now ,congress is worried , if they don't perform,BJP might win next election.
