How can Govt decide my work schedule....
by Joe on May 15, 2007 02:22 AM  Permalink

It's very unfair. People are arguing that it saves the culture, I dont understand it. These women work just like you and me for living. It's very unfair to tell 50% population that they can utilize these many hours in a day and the rest they should just sit at home. It's crazy how is it democracy. I know you and me dont want the Govt to design our work schedules. Then why should they be allowed to do so for someone else. What's next women not allowed to walk on streets after dark... Let the individuals deal with their own security. If Govt wants to help tighten the Even teasing, rape, other punishments. Not this retro laws.

democracy dominated by chauvinism and ignorance.
by Khushi on May 15, 2007 12:56 AM  Permalink

This can only happen in India. Rather than killing the problem, the minsters thought its easy to kill the event. Why are women unsafe at night idiots?Cant you protect them from those animals?Rather than setting up things like that, you decide to curb the independence of women. Great job duffers. This is the so called democracy where men and women are equal. Do you know how many women got employment due to these call centers? And its funny to see how all chauvinist men have posted replies in favor of this act, as if they are great protectors of morals. I agree with on of the women;d replies. Why not ban men roaming or working at night, why stop women from going out?You know how safe it is for women who work in call centers at night in foreign countries? Because the "not corrupted " police is there to take care.Where are all the women, why isnt anyone voicing against it?I believe because except a few Indians, India still belongs to the 18th century, or is it even worse? And you guys call urself educated.

K'taka to scrap law banning noght shift for women
by Bodh Ramdeo on May 15, 2007 12:26 AM  Permalink

Good ole male chauvinist India - men still deciding what's good for women, who, being the natural chattel and wards of men, are too stupid to think or make judgements for themselves - only men can that.
And, apparently, rape, murder and other heinous crimes against women occur only to those working night shifts, yes?.

A good move but enhances government responsibility.
by Kousik Keshav on May 14, 2007 05:58 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is always easy to avoid any mis happening by making a rule.If it is not safe to any lady employee to move out of home to work place or vice varsa, simple way to bring a law like one now happened. But true democratic benefits going to be tornished. If the civil protection force are vigilant and sincere to their sevice, they can see ,24 hours in a day and 7 days a week every one safe to move anywhere to anywhere. Our police force are caplble of this. But why then rules are framed?Possibly Government mis trust as daily some incidences like chain snatching, theft etc are happening. We read in news papers that in two wheelers chin snachers easily operate but run away! How it is possible that such a situation is not understood by police ?Why not then believe those who are required to protect the community are also well aware of this.Possibly they may also get some share out of it.May not all but a few may be there.Thsi is because that moral value has been eroded.A chin snacher may one day become a police and continue his profession indirectly. There fore it is necessary to conduct a in house diagnosis and take stringent action. If our police force is strong to punish culprits with in and out side then all can live peacefully. Government must act in this direction than just to bring a rule which indirectly mean that for a lady moving out after 8 PM is not safe?No true person agree to this.Other way government should provide some rewards to police individual who can arrest the culprits and puts them behind bars so that true peace remains in day to day life.Such Positive action must be brought to public notice to boost confidence on police force.Similarly government must not hesitate to bring in th the books those public who take undue advantage and act detrimental to peace set up.

OK, what about security?
by KRISHNA KUMAR on May 14, 2007 05:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As per Factories Act, no woman should work in night shifts. But, the scenario is changed and accordingly, Govt. has taken to scrap the earlier direction. It will also welcomed by all, who are fighting for equal rights with men. But, what about the security of woman in the nights. Earlier, there were some murder cases and rape cases occured, particularly in the night or eary hours, particularly who are working in Call Centres. Govt. would have think about security issue before scraping the earlier law. Before implementing any direction with respect to law, it should be analysed thoroughly with the concerned parties.

You are right. By lifting the ban, the practice of woment working at night will be encouraged. But this should be avoided. In an attempt to provide equal rights to men and women by lifting the ban, the govt is actually putting women's lives at greater risk.

This is really a good move by KA Govt.
Please also implement the same in AndhraPradesh and if possible in Tamilnadu and Noida (New Delhi). The reason is there are a lot of Call centres here.
Lets make this possible and save culture of our country.

Women working in night shifts
by bhuvanesh on May 14, 2007 05:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We can sensibly allow single or married women without kids for night shifts.

But forcing a women to work in the night who is mother of one or two kids will definitely lead to the destruction of the family.
Only the kids growing with the mixture of love/strictness of mom will come good. Others grow as wasted creatures getting into all the unwanted acts/anti-social habits and finally there will be of no use in earning for their future,
You grow them as good individual first and they will automatically succeed in life, If you earn money for them without spending quality time with them, then your kids are doomed forever and the condition is irreparable .

RE:Women working in night shifts

I am so touched by your sensitiveness . So was the Islamic minister Ansari who wants to protect women by locking them up. People who work at night do so because they need the money to run their house and have good education for their children. Also - night shifts are when kids have gone to bed and they are getting nicely taken care off then by the grandparents or other relatives and maids. In fact night shift gives more time to women to spend time with kids and many I know prefer that. What use is "tender loving" care of the mom if the family has money only to send kids to muncipality schools. Also lets leave the choice to the family and that is what freedom is all about.

I agree with Anurag. Let the family decide. Btw, what bloody Ansari's concern in telling that its degrdaing INdian culture? What BS? He is doing it coz his islam says it and all these muslims will always try ti impose their laws in any country they are in !! To all those idiots who will reply to my posting one thing - F OFF !
