a lot is wrong for some reason!!!
by Murali on Mar 29, 2007 10:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

there is something terribly wrong with UP n Bihar. people get the leaders they deserve. so the leaders over there are a good reflection of the society they are ruling.

people of bihar n UP will forever blame the politicians for the mess, n the same people will risk their lives to vote for the leader who is the messiah for their caste. wht have the people over thr done to get rid of their corrupt politicians. maximum number of politicians with criminal records are from these two states. people of bihar will vote for criminals like sadhu yadav, shibu soren n syed shahbuddin knowing very well tht these guys are accused (n convicted) of having committed heinous crimes. WHY DO THEY THEN BLAME THE SAME POLITICIANS FOR ALL THE MESS??? society there is divided based on religion n caste/sub caste. people thr do not mind dying for the honour of their caste, but not many wud do anything constructive for their state.

Bihar is blessed with tonnes n tonnes of natural resources still it happens to be the most undeveloped region in India and possibly among the worst in the entire world.

educated people are running away from the state cos they know its a hopeless place. they dont see any opprtunity there. they are applying for govt jobs in other states so tht they can move outta tht place. most biharis who are migrating to big cities are poor people with not enuff money to even manage next days meals. desperation for money leads them into the world of crime.

people from big cities are treating biharis like a menace..people who are eating up their jobs and creating all sorts of problems for them (safety, hygiene etc etc). thts the reason they were bashed up at a mumbai railway station by shiv sainiks. i condemn it though.

Cheating is rampant in schools, colleges n every place. students who apply to universitites outside bihar do so with fake certificates. Infact University of Delhi does not trust bihari certificates so a double check is done. this double check is only for 'MADE IN BIHAR' certificates. also Bihari students are known to be very dependent on leaked exam papers to clear competitive examinations.

for all the biharis who are dreaming of a developed n prosperous Bihar, the change must come from the grassroot level. No politician is ever gonna do anything for ur benefit. if the people change, so will the politicians.

Jai Hind

Good one. I feel that this article on rediff is just a good PR by Bihar govt. Nitish is trying to improve Bihar but it will take decades to change the fortunes of Bihar. I have come across many good natured Biharis - from labourere to managers to IT people. But these people are scared of going to back to Bihar. A marketing manager with a big steel co told me this. "I have not gone to my town in Bihar for 20 years. I am scared that if people there know that I am doing well in Mumbai, I will be kidnapped for ransom. If my relatives want to see me, I call them here but I will never go there." I can give dozens of examples like this given by Bihari people or those who have stayed in Bihar. Outsiders literally run away from Bihar. In terms of poverty, Orissa is poorer but people are not so criminal minded. Maharashtra, TN and Karnataka may be richer than Bihar but they have their own share of poor people. What differentiates poor Biharis from others is criminal mentality. "Jiski Lathi Uski Bhains" was probably coined by Biharis. I was told a story about how people kill simply because someone refused to give seat in bus or train. I just want to ask one question. How many people on this board who are glorifying Bihar "actually live" in Bihar and can say their life is very good? I read a story in TOI about an NRI BIhari doctor who came to Patna to participate in the "Rising Bihar" sunnit organized by Nitish Kumar. But before he reached there, he was propmtly robbed in broad daylight in Patna. And this is preety common according to Biharis I meet in Mumbai. Most blame Lalu for this mess. "Maine Swarg to nahi diya, magar "swar" (voice") diya" was his catch line to garner backward votes. Come on you Bihari guys, if you feel bad about Bihar bashing, go to Bihar and vote (if you can ...), change politicians ... Individually, very few people are bad, it is how they behave as a community gives them good or bad reputation !!!

good comments buddy.

i have a non bihari friend who had to go to bihar for some important office work. he had a terrible experience n it started whn the train he was travelling in entered Bihar.

his one day in Patna was enuff for him to vow never to return to tht place. Because

-women are physically molested n are subjected to lewd comments in the trains n buses.

-seats in trains n buses are meant for goons only.

-issuing of business tenders is a mere formailty. the tenders are won by the group with maximum muscle power.

- u can spit/urinate/defecate at any place.

What a sad person you are!!

Actually go to Bihar and have a look. Women in Bihar are treated with much more respect than they are in Mumbai & Delhi. People like you should dig a hole somewhere and bury yourself there. You are a nuisance to India.

HRD Minister what are you doing with the cess being collected. Will Reservations help with this condition of schools
by V Chakravarthy on Mar 29, 2007 10:10 PM  Permalink

The details shown for the Government school as above are really the very very much above the average standard of Government Schools. It is really pathetic that even after 60 years of Independence this government has failed to provide basic education with all proper facilities like class rooms for all students, adequately trained teachers and basic facilities like toilets for children. The only thing that this shameless Cong Govt and its old and sick HRD minister is trying to do is to divert the attention of the nation and divide the people on the issue of Reservations in the line of Caste and religion. Shame on you Mr. Manmohan Singh and Arjun Singh.

learn to respect people like Lalu. Even if you try whole life you won't be achieving 1/10000th of what Lalu has done. He has done something wrong but please sukhi, you can't be lalu.
He comes to your state and your chief minister will go there to receive him.
And who are you by the way? Why are you so bitter? ha ha.

And I strongly agree with Dr. Kalam's statement tthat if India has to be a developed nation, Bihar will have to progress.

Still I feel that we have only history on our side and I know history repeats itself. Just wait..

Biharis are good in general .
by Guru on Mar 29, 2007 09:51 PM  Permalink

I am neither from Bihar and nor have visited once . But When I was working in Bangalore and in US , I come across guys from Bihar. They are as good as any Indian. Infact they are well read and hard working brilliant guys. Problem may be illiteracy , since I met only educated engineers. Politicians like Lalu exploit deep rooted caste system and spoiled that state. Now some repair is going on ..Nice to read something positive about Bihar.

Government schools in India are same everywhere
by Truth Seeker on Mar 29, 2007 09:46 PM  Permalink

Government schools are the same everywhere in India. Some villages have schools only till 5th class. For higher education they have to go to different villages. Even those schools are not well funded. Teachers are paid good relative to the cost of living in villages. How much ever teachers are paid, it's not necessary that they teach good. Most of them got their jobs through recommendations and reservations. That's the reason the results are not that great in the government schools. Most of the students don't continue their education after failing in 10th grade. Some may pass with low scores and then fail at the next level. Whole system seems like a failure to me. In contrast, even the dullest student from the private school will continue till achieving a degree, may be because of the environment or the good amount of peer pressure.

Biharis have innocent, gentle hearts
by abhay kumar on Mar 29, 2007 08:43 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

I am writing one of my own experiences somewhere in Gaya-Jehanabad areas where I was surprosed to see the courtesy shown to famele passangers in over-crowded buses.Whenever a famale passanger used to come inside men willingly offered their seats to them.same was true for old persons alos...a scene absent is Delhi and Mumbai.I have also observed that when people comes to know that u are from other s5tates of India, tamilnadu, rajasthan or maharashtra their curious attenstion will be towards you and you will feel happy to gate that special treatment. This is in contrast to the hatred to other-statesmen in other parts of India. This may be due to because thay rarely come to see outsiders. But anyway its true.
Some of my freiends from Kosi region say how comfortable they are in walking through villages in late nights...but some news items from some ares has made bihar notorious.
A very goos article indeed.

Right Mr. Patil Its not the only credit of Mahrastra people who has contributed only for Bombay sorry Mumbai. The English has developed four citties of India and people of all over India has contrbuted in the progress of these metro city. Check out how many Parsi Gujrati Marwari Punjabis and people southern Indian has contributed for the present day Bombay.Leave it and show me any other example in your state which is equally good as Bombay . If you have any there also other than local people have great contribution.I think central govt. should give these four city a state status free it from local notion of there own belonging.I think Gurat has some potential to show somethin to Bombay.I have no malice for any one.If this way you vent out. When I was in engineering college in Madras now Chennaia I had anumber of Marathi friend Mule, wankhade Chanakherkar etc. So I know all part of India through our college day and later on Job.

I am not in serious problem just in serious embarassment!

I cannot understand why the state that produces the best doctors, engineers, civil servants, lawyers, technocrats doesn't do something about this!!!
