over-glorification
by mohak chaudhary on Mar 29, 2007 01:45 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i hav travelled to every nook and corner of bihar and jharkhand and can only say that all which is written over here is highly glorified. It may be a one of wonder but the reality is very grim. The bihari society is very backward, caste, religion driven and they don't want to work in their state although they may do worst jobs in other places.I thought this reporter was very lucky not to hav got looted and murdered on her way to rajgir.the place where the bimbisara jail is located is highly naxal infested and no guide or local wld dare to take u over there. What cld hav been a very prosperous state is nothing but hell.ask any labour over there. There is also a trend to be seen tht of late the biharis in the media are trying to restore the bihari pride even if it means vested journalism. There is a chance for bihar to reform itself and i hope its ppl wake up soon and as for the government i firmly believe tht people get wht they deserve.

Mr. Mohak which other states u have visited specially every nook & corner. Where ever is prblm we start criticising the ppl over there. Prblm is not with biharis, prblm is with u guys who dont know the fact. there is no education, empowerment, nothing has been done for the upliftment of ppl over there by Govt, no infrastructure in that region itself. There is no enough food, they have not seen electricity so far forget TV, Radio, & other basic amneties that is why ppl there involve in criminal activities, if they dont go out of that area to earn for there livelihood, it is very easy to pass comment on these ppl sitting in airconditioned office, but if u see the reality, I am sure tears will come in ur eyes. So grow up friend & appreciate any small good thing. Heads up to Rediff. Please show real picture of Bihar, Eastern U.P. Bengal Orissa

Dear Mohak, I would wonder how did u get the kind of sentiments u r vomiting out here. Biharis going out of Bihar (but in their own country) for job - if u consider this as a bad syndrome, then how wud u praise those gujju/punjabis who have flocked US/abroad almost everywhere and are regarded as our own powerful NRIs. Does that mean these punjabis/Gujjus donot want to work in their country? Dude, I bet u dat even u wud flee to US at the first opportunity. wudnt u? but does that make India a wrong/rotten country?
And for ur other observation dat bihari society is backward and blah blah blah.. As u claim U got dat impression after visiting every nooks and corner of the state. I guess, u wudnt have visited the nooks and corner of other states to give u a fair comparison.

Mr Mohak,
Being on one side of the screen doesn't mean darkness on the other side. What you have experienced is because the bad things are just more hyped rather than the good things done here. There are many good work carried in and around Patna by UNISEF and UNESCO to bring a change. But what is required more is to change the mindset of we the people, our perception of bihar.....we need to beleive that thigs can change and can change very rapidly....Who know in a decade or two, this place can be boasted of a new revolution.(and mark my words, erstwhie Bihar, Jharkhand is going to be the state to watch out for another industrial revolution in India)

Dear Mohak, Naxal are present in some other states also, so dont point only one state for it, also there is no job opportunity to work in Bihar, hence people are fleeing the state, the same thing is also happening in other states like Bengal, Orissa, etc, so its better read the stats before writing anything. Also, people are very intelligent today so vested journalism does not work. Also saying Bihari society backward is very rude and childish from your part. Due to some people you cant portray the whole society according to them. This reflects some kind of hatred of yours for the Bihari society.

Going down the memory lane

This article took me back to days when I started my schooling at a small place called Pusa Road near Samastipur. We had similar school where we used to carry jute sacs for sitting in class room. We used to clean class rooms with cow dung and mud and used khesari leaves for cleaning black board. The memory gives me good feeling may be better than sitting in posh MNC office.

Booming Bihar
by ashwini gupta on Mar 29, 2007 01:38 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The main problem of Bihar is that since past 20-25 years, no development has occurred. At the time of independence and upto 1970's Bihar wss counted as role model for other states to emulate in development. But the rascal politician and central govermnent in power totally neglected Bihar and since then it has stagnated.
Instead of making stories deriding Bihar, the people of this nation should help in restructuring of Bihar. We should not be narrow minded and anti to some of our brothers and sisters from Bihar.
If we can help in Kashmir and Afghanistan why dont our people have consideration for Bihar. It is the land of Janak maharaj, Mother Sita, Visvamitra, Karna, Lord Buddha, Asoka And Chanakya.
The only fault is that for past 30 years it remain stagnated whereas other parts of our country progressed.
Rather than to looking down at Biharis and making stories of their poverty, we should support them in their development. We should not forget that other states had similar level of development 20 years back as Bihar is in now.

The men to blame are Biharis themselves for their sorry state. You have allowed people like Lalu to get away with heinous crimes. I wonder how many Biharis who have left the state would like to go back and improve the situation there. And wonder how many Indians would get away from the politics and politicians in their day to day life and work towards an uncorrupt and an acceptable life. I think if we stop the corrupt officials and politicians rigging our country India has enough resources and manpower to deal with anything and anyone. The pride should come from within. Jai Hind !!!

But kudos to Ms. ARCHANA for standing out and trying to come out with a balanced view about the state of affairs in Bihar. Its not like every thing is rosy in Bihar, but the state which was neglected by one and all and then despised is trying to make up fast. God willing it will shift from lowest to highest in all rankings which we are so obsessed with

Nice to see some constructive journalism and that too about a state whose perception in an average Indian mind is not very good. Being a Bihari myself, I know many of such really grassroot level work done. its just that these news dont find a mention or are overshadowed by the political news. These sort of things need to be shown to improve Bihar's image as well as boost the morale of those who are doing these works.

by vipul saxena on Mar 29, 2007 01:20 PM  Permalink

These kids are the future of our India and their education and all round development should be our top priority. Bihar is the state which produces large number of IAS,IIT, CBSE MEDICAL graduates and no doubt, it is becoz of the spirit and hard work shown towards education by the parents. Other states in India have IT and foreign investment to show but no other state has such spirit and zeal towards education.
