The business community has used the corrupt state goverments to acquire lands easily at very low rates and use the muscle of state police to squash the voice of tribals and dalits. The state goverment is elected by these very people and the state has to protect their land rights, the only mode of survival for tribals and dalits. The protests therefore is a clear sign of loss of confidance in the state goverment by htese people. Orthodox communities stand to gain in this situation as they want the tribals suppressed as it gives them upperhand in society. The central goverment has its hand full.
CPM has none but itself to blame to let the situation hot up to such an extent by the Muslim Fundamentalists. First they let the illegal immigrants, mostly muslims, from Bangladesh to settle in WB, in exchange of their votes. They provided them with land, ration-cards and voter's ID cards. Now they have formed parties for themselves and raisen against the CPM - like a Frankenstein turning on its creator.
Buddha must fight the muslim fundamentalists by strictly imposing birth-control measures and effective sealing of the borders. Land grabbing by the govt too should give in the way mentioned in the article.

Now Buddhadev Bhattacharya should do one thing that he should bring all the young educated unemployees of the W.B. infront row of the struggle and fight with Mamat Banerji and the Muslim Fundamenalist.
As it is lots of border districts in WB have had their demographies changed due to a sustained influx from Bangladesh of mostly Muslims. For a long time the immigrants lied low & now they have probably started flexing their muscles. For heavens sake somebody hear Buddha out, else these incidents would get repeated & get out of hand.

The influx of Bangladeshi people to India has been happenning ever since the State of Bangladesh came into existence. At first it were the Hindus, then came the Muslims. It would seem that universally, irrespective of the caste, creed , religious following, the poor are unwelcome anywhere. The problem of Nandigram is depriving the poor of what little they still have. The fact remains that Communist rule has no agenda for rapid economic growth inspite of their long tenure in WB.It is not surprising, because the Communist method has ceased to be economically viable a long time ago.
